Gregory Vaughn originally joined the Vaughn Family as a live-in son-in-law, but when Cecilia’s grandfather, Martin Sutton, passed away prematurely, the power of Radiant Group gradually slipped away.
However, the grandfather was farsighted and realized that Gregory Vaughn was a wolf in sheep’s clothing with great ambition, while his only daughter, Wendy Sutton, knew nothing about the intricacies of the business world. So Martin Sutton kept a backup plan.
Before his death, he wrote a shareholding agreent, transferring the majority of his shares to his granddaughter, Cecilia Vaughn. When Gregory Vaughn found out, he was almost infuriated to death, but still had to pretend nothing happened.
As soon as Wendy Sutton had passed away in a mariti accident, Gregory Vaughn no longer hid his predatory nature.
He directly brought ho an illegitimate daughter who was just a few months younger than Cecilia, and used Cecilia’s minority status to occupy her shares, refusing to hand over the company’s managent to his eldest daughter.
...
Gregory Vaughn thought that by tearing up the inheritance will in his hand, he could rest easy.
Luckily, grandfather left an additional copy of the shareholding agreent with Joan Sinclair, his ex-wife, a move even Gregory Vaughn hadn’t anticipated.
Reflecting on the past, Cecilia Vaughn’s eyes grew increasingly dark.
The things that belonged to her, she was determined to reclaim completely!
...
Joan Sinclair hesitated slightly upon hearing about the shareholding agreent, then imdiately thought of the mistress and her daughter living openly at the Vaughn house.
"Cecilia, I’ve kept everything, look, it’s locked in this wooden box."
Joan Sinclair took out the stack of wills and carefully placed it in Cecilia Vaughn’s hands.
"Your father is heartless and has been scheming in the business world for years. Cecilia, if you want to regain control of Radiant Group, you must be cautious."
Cecilia Vaughn nodded resolutely, while the man next to her grasped her right hand, speaking in a steady voice.
"Grandma, don’t worry. I’m here, and I won’t let anyone bully Cecilia."
"Alright, Adrian, I trust you. I’m entrusting Cecilia to you."
Joan Sinclair looked gratefully at Adrian Law, her confidence boosted.
Though she was getting older, her sharp eyes hadn’t dulled, and she could see that Adrian Law truly cared for Cecilia Vaughn, which was enough for her.
...
Cecilia Vaughn and Adrian Law decided to stay longer after dinner to spend more ti with Grandma.
It was a crisp autumn season, and Cecilia admired Joan Sinclair’s small garden, marveling at her grandmother’s appreciation for life.
Though the yard wasn’t large, it flourished with plants, clearly well-tended. Virginia creeper stretched along the indigo walls, roses stood gracefully by the fence, exhibiting a beauty of intricate design.
The garden was initially purchased by Grandma and Grandpa together. Though established in an earlier era, it had been renovated over ti, becoming increasingly elegant and refined.
Adrian Law, gazing at the potted orchids in the garden, narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Cecilia, does your grandma like orchids?"
"I suppose so. Books always say scholars love orchids. It’s probably one of those refined hobbies."
...
Adrian Law was thoughtful and soon made a plan.
After an hour, Wyatt Law showed up, carefully holding a pot of Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron.
Joan Sinclair had just picked up a watering can to tend to the plants when she saw the pot of Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron, shocked enough to drop the watering can.
"Is this Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron?"
"The plant has a beautiful form, delicate veins that dance gracefully. You’ve really taken care of it well!"
Joan Sinclair’s reaction was understandable—Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron is the most prized of orchids, usually not even available for sale at any price!
In fact, during one auction in Veridia, a Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron fetched an astonishing price of 15 million!
Seeing Joan Sinclair’s unwavering gaze on the pot of orchid, Adrian Law knew he had found the perfect gift. He let a warm smile curve on his lips.
"Grandma, I specifically asked soone to find this gift for you. I hope you like it."
Upon hearing Adrian Law intended to give her the orchid, Joan Sinclair was delighted, but after a brief hesitation, she waved her hand in refusal.
"No need, Adrian. Considering how well this orchid is growing, I’m aware of Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron’s value. I’d fear I couldn’t afford it even if I sold this garden, so it’s better for you to keep it."
Cecilia Vaughn didn’t understand the orchid species, but hearing Joan Sinclair say it was worth more than her house, she blinked in shock.
"Adrian, is this orchid really that expensive?"
Despite Joan Sinclair’s refusal, Adrian Law was unfazed, directly taking the orchid from Wyatt Law and gently placing it in Joan Sinclair’s garden.
"Grandma, you’ve only seen the worldly value of the Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron, but in truth, it takes soone who loves flowers to understand them."
"I don’t have the sa passion for orchids as you do; keeping this Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron with would only waste its beauty. You’re the best keeper for it."
Joan Sinclair watched Adrian Law’s graceful attitude, and her fondness for the young man increased.
He was humble, polite, and his gift was creative, making her more and more satisfied.
Joan Sinclair decided not to decline again, but looked over at Cecilia Vaughn.
"I’ll cherish this orchid... Cecilia, Adrian truly cares for you, don’t let him down."
"Of course not."
Cecilia Vaughn chuckled and nodded.
...
Before leaving, Joan Sinclair gave them a bunch of items, including specialties from the ancient town and so osmanthus tea she dried herself.
With Grandma’s kind gesture, Cecilia Vaughn gladly accepted.
Upon returning to Starfall Bay, the two unpacked and organized the things Grandma had given them, and Cecilia Vaughn thought for a mont before holding Adrian Law’s hand.
"Adrian..."
"Mm?" Adrian Law looked at the girl who seed hesitant to speak, his eyes deep as the night: "What’s wrong?"
Cecilia Vaughn’s voice was soft.
"Although I know you bought that Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron to make Grandma happy, I just looked it up, and that orchid is truly priceless... You really shouldn’t spend money so freely in the future."
Not just expensive, that Plain-Crowned Lotus Cauldron could buy a luxury ho in the city!
"Grandma and we are family; she only cares that you’re sincere with , neglecting money wouldn’t be good."
Adrian Law chuckled, gently ruffling Cecilia Vaughn’s hair, a hint of affection in his dark eyes.
"Silly girl, as long as Grandma is happy, this money is just a worldly possession. As I’ve promised, I will love and protect you for life, and your family too."
Seeing the man’s earnest expression, Cecilia Vaughn’s heart clenched.
Her nose turned slightly sore, and she hugged Adrian Law tightly, trying to hold back tears.
"Sotis it feels like a dream; Adrian, eting you is the greatest fortune of my life."
"There you go again, Cecilia, eting you is my fortune."
The man gently placed a kiss on the ends of Cecilia Vaughn’s hair; she barely had ti to feel moved when suddenly the phone rang.
It was an unknown number.
She paused for a mont and answered it.
To her surprise, a frantic male voice ca through the other end—
