Suddenly, a sound so familiar, yet so painfully new was heard. It was throaty, warm, and filled with life.
Startled at the sound, Yang Ruqin was quickly pulled back from her thoughts in shock. She thought her ears were playing tricks on her when she heard the sound of his laughter. It wasn't the taunting and cold one he uses on his enemy, it was a genuine one — a sound she hadn't heard in a very long time.
The last time she heard it was right before he left to attend some prestigious school overseas. As a matter of fact, the last time she heard such a sound was right before he boarded the airplane and Feifei was a sobbing mess. He had laughed at how foolish she looked, but he ended up forting her and it was the first time he publically showed affection for the child.
Yang Ruqin wanted to know if the sound she heard was real or not, so she took a few steps back to peer into Feifei's room.
Standing in the room, Yang Feng had laughed at something Zhao Lifei said or did. She was smiling, pletely unaware of the astonished eyes staring at them. She was so oblivious to the fact that he only seemed to smile and laugh around her. From her point of view, this was how carefree Yang Feng had always been around her.
Yang Ruqin felt the struggle in her mind settle down. Maybe, just maybe, having those two together wouldn't be a bad idea...Her Feifei had not been this happy in a very long time, even while she was engaged to that scum of a person. The smile she had on her face wasn't the insincere and feigned smile that Ruqin couldn't properly decipher to be real or not at times.
Breathing in deeply, she decided to support them on when they finally decide to make it official...

"You brought me the limited edition rice cakes from Hedong? Thank you, Qinqin!" Zhao Lifei squealed in glee at the gift box in her hand, pulling Yang Ruqin into a tight hug.
"And you say I'm a glutton." Yang Ruqin giggled at Lifei's bright excitement that resembled a child opening her Christmas gift. The gift box wasn't that expensive, but it was the thought that counted. It was very rare for a person to get their hands on these rice cakes because the store only made ten boxes per day. It would take a very long time just to reserve a spot. Despite its rarity, it wasn't very expensive and was actually moderately priced.
Yang Feng sat at the couch, eyeing the box in confusion. He had given her priceless gifts, each worth millions and something that the average people could never dream of seeing or touching. Jewels, accessories, a limited edition purse, and even a luxurious penthouse, yet this woman became ecstatic at a gift that anyone could buy?
He blinked at her strange behavior. It was just...food. What was so special about it for her to bee so excited?
He felt bitter at the fact that his little sister was getting so much attention and praise for a simple gift while he racked his head for something to give her. Yet, here she was, smiling and squealing over a simple box of rice cakes.
Yang Feng's eyes narrowed onto the store name branded onto the box and picked up his phone to text Chen Gaonan. She wanted rice cakes? He'll buy out the entire store!
His eyes flashed with a mischievous glint as he had just found a winning present for their ongoing gift war. She better smile and tightly hug him just like she did with his sister!
He didn't know why the rice cakes held so much significance in her heart, but he was willing to go above and beyond expectations just to make her happy. It was just rice cakes, but this astute businesswoman acted as if she was rewarded with the majority of the pany shares.
'This girl is really weird...' He thought to himself when he took into account her bright eyes as she opened more boxes. His eyes widened a bit when he saw it was all food? He quickly scanned over the boxes and once again, neither of them looked expensive or hand-crafted by a professional Michelin-star pastry chef!
Was this what it took to win her over? Food?!
He couldn't believe the sight before him. Never in a millennium would he have thought that someone who used to rule the socialite circle, the woman who had hundreds of heiresses at her beck and call, and Zhao Corporation's hidden weapon would be so happy over low-priced gifts.
It seemed he really didn't know anything about a woman. The way to her heart wasn't money, it was food!
Yang Feng was originally upset with Yang Ruqin's presence, but seeing that she was able to make Zhao Lifei so happy, he could forgive her for disturbing the best sleep he has ever had. Yesterday, she seemed so upset and heart-wrenchingly broken that it made his chest swell with pain. He was glad to see she had returned back to normal.
