Morgan, sitting next to Faye Xavier and playing a mobile ga, chid in, "I never thought Shane would turn into soone who’s whipped one day."
Faye Xavier: "He’s more than just whipped; he’s totally obsessed with his wife, wishing he could carry her around with him every day."
In the corner, Lan Irving heard these words, silently picked up his wine glass, and drained it.
Clarissa Morgan glanced at her furtively, her lips curling into a faint and indescribable smile.
"Quentin, it’s getting late; we should head back now."
The invited friends started leaving one after another, and those who stayed were organized by Faye Xavier to play cards together.
Audrey Sutton had school the next day, so Shane didn’t join the play and headed ho with her.
After the fun faded away, only he and she were left in the car. The stereo was playing a late-night radio discussing love topics: Should you boldly confess your love to soone?
So people say love should be brave because life is short and shouldn’t be wasted on secret crushes.
Others say love can be expressed in many ways and doesn’t necessarily need to be spoken, as saying "I love you" may even end the current relationship and make both beco distant.
Audrey Sutton pondered for a long ti, then turned to Shane Warner and asked, "If you liked soone, would you boldly tell her?"
Shane Warner glanced at her before continuing to look at the road ahead, paused for two seconds, and said, "I prefer to show her with actions."
Audrey Sutton furrowed her brows in slight confusion, wondering if he ant he wouldn’t say it directly but would use actions to make the other person feel his love?
Thinking about this, Audrey Sutton scanned through the events of the past few months in her mind, it seed she hadn’t received that kind of signal.
His kindness in public was just for show; in private, his good treatnt of her had nothing to do with love.
Seeing her silent, Shane Warner thought she might understand sothing; but looking at her confused expression, she seed to be only leading herself into a dead-end.
He then asked, "What about you?"
Audrey Sutton hesitated briefly and replied, "... I would definitely tell him directly!"
The answer was firm, but the tone was rather uncertain.
"Really?"
Audrey Sutton further analyzed, "I also think the previous statent is true; life is indeed too short. eting soone you like is a fortunate thing, and it would be a pity to waste ti on secret crushes."
Shane Warner subtly remarked, "I hope you truly understand that statent."
Audrey Sutton looked at him twice, unsure if he was hinting at sothing. She didn’t dare overthink it, afraid of being simply wishful thinking.
Actually, she said that hoping Shane Warner would openly tell her if he ever liked her soday.
Little did she know, Shane Warner was also waiting for that day.
The Heritage Manor, Building C.
The car stopped at the roadside in front of the building.
Before getting out, Shane Warner asked her, "You got money from your brother to buy the watch for back then."
Audrey Sutton nodded honestly and said, "But there’s an old saying that giving a watch isn’t lucky, so you can give a couple of coins as if I’m selling it to you."
Shane Warner chuckled and pushed the car door open, and after she got out, he added, "Only do what you can, there’s no need to buy expensive gifts, it’s the thought that counts."
Audrey Sutton pouted without saying anything. If it weren’t to compete with Clarissa Morgan, she wouldn’t have spent all her savings to buy the watch for him.
After opening the trunk, he carried a big carton, and she carried a small carton filled with the birthday gifts he received today.
Inside the elevator, Audrey Sutton looked at a small black rectangular gift box on top of the carton, planning how to find the right mont to tell him it’s a gift from Vincent Warner.
Wondering how he would react when he knew, whether he liked the gift or not was secondary; Audrey Sutton worried he might scold her for secretly eting Vincent Warner.
"Just leave it by the door, wash up, and get so sleep early."
Audrey Sutton glanced at him silently, placed the box on the cabinet by the door, slowly responded with an "Oh," and bent down to change into slippers before heading to her room.
At the fastest speed, she finished her shower and changed clothes within ten minutes, rushing out only to see the lights still on in the living room downstairs. Audrey Sutton imdiately went down.
Seeing Shane Warner feeding Pea, she walked straight to the fridge, pretending to look for food while casually asking, "Aren’t you opening your gifts?"
Shane Warner looked sideways at her, "You can open them if you want."
Audrey Sutton secretly rejoiced, smiling as she scooped out so canned fruit from the fridge and took a bite, asking him, "Aren’t you curious about what they all gave you?"
Shane Warner didn’t answer imdiately; he stood up, closed the cat food bag, put it back in the cabinet, and then looked at her, "Not much."
He was only curious about her gift, which was now on his wrist; as for what others gave, he wasn’t concerned.
Audrey Sutton washed her hands, grabbed the two boxes of gifts, and moved them to the living room, sitting on the carpet and picking up a pink gift box randomly, "Then I’ll help you open them."
Shane Warner nodded, leisurely walked over to the wine cabinet, poured a glass of red wine, and sat by the sofa watching her unwrap the gifts.
As she opened more, she found that most of the gifts were similar, like several belts and ties, plus so exquisite trinkets.
Audrey Sutton pulled out a plush toy from the box, asking him, "Who gave this? What were they thinking? Anyone could guess with their toes that you don’t like this kind of thing?"
Shane Warner looked up from his newspaper and gave her a sidelong glance, then continued reading, "It’s for soone at ho who likes it."
Audrey Sutton froze holding the toy before realizing that "soone" ant her?
"Then I’ll take this." Audrey Sutton smiled as she spoke.
Then she saw a white box at the bottom of the carton, if she rembered correctly, it was from Lan Irving.
Just the box looks far more exquisite than the previous ones.
Opening the box revealed a pink note with a black pen nestled underneath.
Audrey Sutton glanced at Shane Warner; his attention was fully on the newspaper.
She hesitated, secretly unfolded the note, where beautiful handwriting penned a line: "Glad I can personally wish you a happy birthday."
Audrey Sutton flipped the note over and found only this one short sentence.
"Hey!" She passed the note and pen box over to Shane Warner, "Your little secretary gave you this."
Shane Warner glanced at her, folded the newspaper, and lazily said, "Searching for jealousy where there is none again?"
Audrey Sutton pouted, placed the items on the edge of the coffee table in front of him, pretending not to care as she continued opening other boxes, "Why would I be jealous? It has nothing to do with ."
Shane Warner chuckled softly, picked up the pen for a casual look, then put it back in the box, quietly repeating her earlier words: "...nothing to do with you."
Audrey Sutton’s gaze fell upon the black rectangular gift box, not paying attention to his muttering but contemplating how to tell him that it’s a gift from Vincent Warner.
"You see, this gift box is so special." Audrey Sutton intentionally picked up the box to show him.
Shane Warner took a glance at the black box, leaned closer, and asked her, "What’s special about it?"
