Audrey Sutton was grinding coffee beans, pondering about how Vincent Warner seed even more composed and mature than Shane Warner. He gave off an impression of being much more serious and proper. If soone like him could secretly keep a young girl on the side, does that an Shane might be up to sothing sneaky too?
Although there weren’t any signs of it yet, Audrey felt she should probably stay on guard.
She brewed the coffee and brought it into Shane’s office, where she saw him eating while flipping through her howork notebook to check her assignnts.
After setting down the coffee cup, Audrey quietly sat down on the sofa nearby.
"Not bad, you’ve improved since before."
Upon hearing his praise, Audrey’s pride was short-lived as he threw cold water over her spirits: "No major issues, but plenty of small ones. I’ve marked them all for you, take a proper look."
With that, he placed a pen inside the notebook and tossed it back to her.
Audrey opened the notebook and seriously looked it over for not even a minute before unhappily saying, "They’re just typos, do you have to be so picky?"
"Wrong is wrong, no matter how small."
Audrey pouted and lowered her head to make corrections.
Knock, knock—Lucian Quinn knocked on the door and entered. He nodded towards Audrey as a greeting, then walked over to Shane and said, "This is the investnt proposal for the developnt zone. Take a look when you have ti."
Shane nodded, reached for the folder, and noticing Lucian hadn’t left yet, wiped his mouth with a napkin and asked, "Is there anything else?"
"While you were out this morning, Mrs. Sterling ca by looking for you." As he said this, Lucian handed over two black-thed performance tickets, "She invited you and your wife to her performance."
Audrey hadn’t imdiately realized who "Mrs. Sterling" referred to, but she understood it was Clarissa Morgan when she saw the tickets.
Shane took the tickets and casually placed them on the table before nodding at Lucian, "Okay, you can go back to work."
After Lucian left, Audrey reached for the two tickets to take a closer look, speaking in a slightly sour tone, "Sister Morgan treats you so well, these front row tickets sell for over a couple thousand online."
Shane took a sip of the coffee she had just brewed for him and said leisurely, "Why don’t you see if anyone around you wants them? You could earn so pocket money."
Audrey looked up at him, scrutinizing him for a few seconds, and asked, "Do you an... you’re not going?"
Shane smiled and asked her back, "Do you want to go?"
Audrey raised an eyebrow as if she didn’t care, "It’s up to you, go if you want to. After all, it’s hard to get a ticket. Besides... what if you want to see this noble Black Swan?"
"I think I’ll pass."
Audrey nonchalantly rolled the tickets in her hand, watching him.
Then she heard him say in a serious tone, "I’m afraid the whole place might be filled with the scent of jealousy. I’m used to it, no big deal for , but I’m worried it might affect others."
The motion of Audrey rolling the tickets paused. She lazily straightened up on the sofa, gracefully saying, "I just want to go. I quite like Sister Morgan. I missed her last performance at school and felt it was quite a pity. Since she saved tickets for us this ti, I definitely can’t miss the chance."
Shane watched her with an amused smile, wondering what little sche she was brewing in her head again.
Calling "Sister Morgan" so affectionately, when who knows what little trick she’s harboring inside.
Still, Shane found her playful scheming quite adorable.
Initially, he thought there was no harm in her going if she wanted to, but seeing the special guest marked on the ticket was Simon Sue, he suddenly understood Audrey’s urge to attend the performance despite not liking Clarissa Morgan was connected to this.
The performance was set for the twenty-fourth of next month, which was Christmas Eve, so there was still so ti.
The next day, Audrey went to a gift shop to collect a gift she had ordered. It was a life-size pillow printed with the image of the male lead from Vanessa Sterling’s comic series.
Audrey quite liked it herself.
Having checked with Vanessa beforehand that she wasn’t having a birthday party, Audrey hitched a ride with Shane when he ca to pick her up for lunch at school and went to Vanessa Sterling’s place first.
She called Vanessa to co downstairs for the gift.
Lowering the car window, Audrey looked around. Before long, she saw Vanessa in a black down jacket running towards them.
As Vanessa approached, Audrey noticed her left sleeve was empty like Yang Guo’s.
Audrey opened the car door and got out, waving at Vanessa.
When Vanessa got closer, Audrey could clearly see the white bandage wrapped around her neck outside her sweater and asked first thing, "Vanessa, what happened to your hand?"
"...It’s dislocated." After a pause, Vanessa explained with a smile, "I slipped on the snowy road and fell."
"Is it serious?"
Vanessa shook her head, "The bandage can co off in a couple of days."
Audrey turned to open the back car door. The vacuum-sealed pillow was inside a square gift box, not too big, but unmistakably too much for Vanessa to handle with one hand.
"Let’s go, I’ll take it up for you."
Vanessa, recognizing her own inability to carry the box, said, "Thanks, Audrey, I really appreciate you coming all this way to bring a gift."
"No problem, it’s on my way." Audrey bent down to tell Shane to wait for her there.
Then she followed Vanessa into the community.
"Is it because of your injured hand that you’re not having a birthday party?"
Vanessa smiled, "I’ve never celebrated my birthday. I didn’t think you’d rember."
"Actually, I found out from your fans chatting online. You should still be careful; luckily, it was your left hand this ti. If it was your right, your followers waiting for new updates would have a hard ti."
After going upstairs, Audrey placed the gift box on the coffee table in Vanessa’s room.
Audrey was busy and didn’t linger, and Vanessa, sowhat inconvenienced as well, saw her to the elevator doors before heading back.
When Audrey went inside earlier, she noticed a pair of n’s shoes by the entrance. But she recalled Vanessa ntioning she didn’t have a boyfriend.
That brought Miles Sterling to Audrey’s mind, inevitably connecting Vanessa’s dislocated arm to him.
Audrey quickly jogged back to the car and asked Shane, "Does Miles Sterling live here too?"
Shane: "I think so."
"I suspect he abuses Vanessa. Every ti I see her, she’s hurt here or there. Does he have so ntal issues?"
Shane didn’t respond, starting the car towards the restaurant.
As Audrey fastened her seatbelt, she murmured to herself, "Vanessa is so pitiful. Isn’t there sothing we can do to help her?"
