Shane looked at the phone she had just hung up on, frowning deeply.

He stood up from the bathtub, drying himself with a towel while sending a ssage to Audrey Sutton via WhatsApp: "Co back early, okay?"

He had put on his pajamas, but she still hadn’t replied.

Shane picked up the phone again and said: "Sing a few lines for ."

He dried his hair and checked his phone again.

Damn, this little brat really is ignoring him.

Shane lay on the bed, looking at his phone from ti to ti, realizing for the first ti how he could be so bored.

He scrolled through her social dia posts again, realizing that before he ca into her life, her days were quite fulfilling.

She had a bunch of brothers and sisters, never lacking company.

It was eleven o’clock, and she still hadn’t replied to his ssages.

To make his presence felt, Shane sent her a tip under her comics.

At twenty past eleven, he sent another ssage: "Are you back yet?"

At eleven twenty-five, Shane stared at the screen for five whole minutes.

At eleven-thirty, just as he was about to call her, her na changed to "typing."

Soon, a reply popped up in the chat: "Just got in the car, why aren’t you resting yet?"

Shane: "When I’m not ho, do you plan not to co back?"

She sent a voice ssage: "I was just out for fun today. The past few days, I’ve been at ho studying and working, okay?"

Shane: "How did your test go today?"

Audrey didn’t complain about the difficulty of the exam, she just replied: "The results aren’t out yet."

Shane: "How do you feel about it?"

Audrey: "I feel pretty good. You can start thinking about how to praise , so you don’t run out of words later."

Although she felt she might have failed, she didn’t want Shane to be smug too soon, lest he mock her.

Shane: "I’ve got plenty of praises, but honestly, there’s not much to praise you for."

Audrey angrily turned off her phone and stuffed it into her bag.

Thinking about how ever since she married him, she had been taking care of his als three tis a day, even if there was no rit, there was hard work.

She admitted she couldn’t match Lan Irving in business acun and couldn’t help much with work, but she had been doing her best to organize the household for nearly half a year, yet he showed no appreciation.

Heartless man.

Shane waited for two minutes, perplexed as to why she wasn’t responding again.

Audrey heard her phone ring three tis in her bag, assuming he wasn’t saying anything nice and couldn’t be bothered to take it out, she just sat in the car, looking out the window.

Once she got ho, General and Pea were waiting by the door.

She felt instantly that sotis cats and dogs were warr than people.

"Ding dong—"

The phone rang again.

Audrey leisurely changed into slippers, opened a can for General and Pea each, then poured herself a basin of hot water. When she sat on the sofa to soak her feet, she picked up her phone to look at Shane’s ssages.

Y: "Why aren’t you talking?"

Y: "Where are you?"

Y: "Talk to ."

The last ssage was a voice ssage, his tone sounding worried and anxious: "Audrey, are you deaf or mute? Are you ho yet? What ride did you take?"

Hearing the concern in his voice, Audrey finally replied: "I’m ho. You should get so rest now."

Y: "I thought you got kidnapped."

Seeing he cursed, Audrey realized he was genuinely worried.

Audrey explained: "I was a bit carsick, so I didn’t check my phone. I didn’t an to not reply. I’m ho now, so rest assured."

At the hotel, Shane lay on the bed, hearing her soft voice through the phone, feeling a warmth in his heart.

Y: "My flight is tomorrow night, have dinner ready for ."

Audrey asked: "So I’m not picking you up at the airport?"

He replied: "No need to co, I’ll head straight ho."

Even though he wanted to see her as soon as he got off the plane, with the weather being so cold, he didn’t want her waiting at the airport.

As Audrey was about to say sothing, he sent another ssage: "Don’t stay up too late, sleep early. Goodnight."

The words "Goodnight" seed to have a magical power, making Audrey smile uncontrollably as she read them.

She found a winking cat emoji in her stickers, accompanied by the words "Goodnight."

After staring at the phone for a few more seconds and seeing his na no longer changing to "typing," she put down the phone, took her feet out of the water, sprayed so lotion, and while massaging her feet, started missing the tis he would massage her.

The next day was the last day of December.

As soon as Audrey was done with school in the afternoon, she rushed to the supermarket, buying a cart full of groceries, then waited outside for Norman Sutton to pick her up.

Out of all her brothers, Norman was the most available, and Audrey knew he had no classes this afternoon, and the supermarket was close to the school, so he was the best choice.

Since he was coming to help Audrey with groceries, Norman didn’t co on his beloved motorcycle, but drove his big brother’s rcedes instead.

As soon as he got out of the car, Norman complained: "If it’s sothing good, you won’t call your brother. When it’s sothing troubleso, you think of ?"

Having a favor to ask, Audrey smiled flatteringly and said: "You’re my brother, who else would I call if I’m in trouble?"

Norman picked up two large bags by her feet, rolling his eyes: "Normally I’m just Norman, now I’m your brother."

Audrey picked up a light bag of snacks, running to keep up with Norman’s pace: "Sixth Brother is the best."

"Gross, that’s disgusting." Norman put the two bags he was holding into the trunk, reaching for the bag in Audrey’s hand, only to find it was all snacks. He took it and said: "I’m confiscating this."

Audrey seed to have prepared to bribe him, smiling as she said: "I’ll give you two packs later."

"Your husband’s pretty rich, right? Why are you so stingy? It would cost a few dozen bucks for a cab, and you want to settle it with two bags of chips?"

Audrey was climbing into the front passenger seat as she replied: "We’re using big brother’s gas, not yours."

"And hiring a chauffeur doesn’t cost money?"

Audrey buckled her seatbelt and hurried him: "Stop dawdling, I have to hurry back to cook dinner."

Norman leaned against the car door, not getting in, haggling: "You want to leave without discussing the price?"

"Co on, can’t we talk while driving? Hurry and get in."

"Send the red envelope first."

Audrey: "I don’t have a job, where would I get money from?"

Norman: "Your husband could buy a building with just a word, and you don’t have enough for a cab fare?"

Audrey: "Then go ask my husband for it."

Norman gave her a look, got into the car, started it up while saying: "Stingy as a nail in the wall."

Without missing a beat, Audrey replied: "Not as stingy as you."
