"Our Audrey has been with you for so ti now, and she’s beco much more sensible."

Hazel Yates’s words were full of praise for Shane, but Shane didn’t actually want Audrey to beco too sensible. He smiled and replied to Hazel Yates, "Audrey is naturally sweet. I’ve been busy with work and haven’t really taken good care of her."

Audrey didn’t know if Shane was just being polite in front of the elders, but the first part of his sentence was pleasant to her ears, since he rarely complinted her.

As for his busy work schedule, she understood.

She thought it was already good enough that he took detours every day to pick her up for school, and she didn’t want to bother him with anything else.

"Ah, I didn’t expect Audrey to be the first to settle down, but marrying Shane gives both and her dad peace of mind."

The mont Hazel Yates said this, the older brothers had a bad premonition.

Sure enough, their eldest brother Stephen Sutton was nad.

"Stephen, you’re over thirty now, it’s ti to settle down. Mr. Sherman’s youngest daughter is coming back to the country soon. Her aunt asked to set up a date. See if you can make so ti to et her."

Hazel Yates said those words cleverly, appearing as if she was only conveying soone else’s wishes, leaving Stephen with no way to refuse.

Even if just to humor her, he had to go.

"And you, my second son—Laura is a good girl, don’t fool around and lose your girlfriend. Once you’ve made up your mind, we ought to propose at The Yates Family. Regardless of Laura and her family’s relationship with ours, Laura should marry into The Suttons respectably without being wronged."

Franklin Sutton sighed helplessly, "Mom, it’s not just up to to get married. Laura said she hasn’t made up her mind yet."

"That ans you’re doing sothing that’s not satisfying her, making her feel you’re not reliable enough to entrust her future to you!"

Franklin Sutton frowned and murmured, "Where am I not reliable?"

"And you, Arthur— you all look decent and our family’s conditions are quite alright. How co none of you have found a partner?"

Arthur Sutton kept his head down, eating without speaking.

Scott Sutton noticed his mother’s gaze sweeping over and took the lead to speak. "Mom, you did say you wouldn’t hurry into marriage before twenty-eight."

Hazel Yates gave him a look, "What’s the difference between twenty-five and twenty-eight? Do you think you’re still young?"

Turning to Evan Sutton, Hazel Yates’s tone beca much milder. "Evan, you can also start paying attention to the girls around you now, bring soone ho if you find soone suitable."

Evan Sutton chuckled lightly and nodded, saying nothing.

The phrase "gentle and refined" aptly described him.

"Mom, no need to rush into marriage, just tell what kind of daughter-in-law you want, and I’ll go pick one from my fan club," Norman Sutton said cheerfully.

Hazel Yates’s voice grew slightly more serious. "Finish your studies properly."

"Mom, aren’t you contradicting yourself? You didn’t support my dating when I was in school, and now you’re urging like my brothers to go on blind dates. Do you want to start a matchmaking service and use us for experints? No parent cheats their kids like this!"

Samuel Sutton: "Just listen quietly to your mother!"

Norman Sutton felt his life was too miserable: no affection from his brothers, unloved by his parents, and his only sister liked to argue with him.

Living was too frustrating.

Shane was not unfamiliar with such marriage pressure, but fortunately, he had no worries about it now.

Watching Audrey eating happily and enjoying the scene of her brothers’ plight, Shane felt lucky to have married a girl like her.

She brought many changes to his life, and he also learned a lot of life’s pleasures from her.

If it hadn’t been her at the wedding, he didn’t know what life would be like now.

In the afternoon, Shane stayed ho playing chess with Samuel Sutton, while Audrey went to the beauty salon with her mom.

Hazel Yates had always paid attention to her upkeep, and with Samuel Sutton’s constant pampering, she had maintained a very youthful mindset.

She was a worrywart mom to her kids, but with Samuel Sutton, she was always like a little girl.

This was probably why Hazel Yates, already fifty, looked only thirty-five or thirty-six.

Even if Audrey called her "sis" on the street, people wouldn’t feel surprised or strange.

On the way to the beauty salon, Audrey chatted with her mom about skincare. Her mom was much more experienced in this area— eighty percent of Audrey’s makeup and skincare products at ho were bought by her mom, and they were all especially good.

As they chatted, they talked about n’s skincare. Hazel Yates said, "Shane is still young. When you return ho, persuade him to take care of his skin properly. Your dad never listened to , otherwise, he wouldn’t have so many wrinkles at the corners of his eyes now."

Audrey thought to herself, getting Shane to use lip balm and moisturizer was difficult enough. If she had to convince him to use masks every day, it would be a miracle.

But she still noted down the experiences her mom shared, just in case they would co in handy later.

After all, now even her dad, under her mom’s persuasion, used at least two masks weekly and sotis eye masks when he was in a good mood.

Though he couldn’t compare to his younger self, compared to his peers, he indeed looked much younger.

Her dad started taking care of himself at almost forty, Shane still had a chance now.

So after they ca out of the beauty salon, Audrey went with her mom to the departnt store and bought quite a few n’s skincare products.

The two n playing chess at ho occasionally received bank card transaction alerts.

Samuel Sutton placed a piece on the board and jokingly said, "Now I have soone to share the bills with."

Shane chuckled, "From now on, the bills will all be on ."

"Honestly, at first, I wasn’t optimistic about you, especially since Audrey was young and immature, so I didn’t think highly of your marriage. But looking at it now, entrusting Audrey to you was the right choice."

Shane placed a piece on the board, saying, "Don’t worry, Dad, I will take good care of Audrey."

...

Franklin Sutton had originally planned to visit Laura Yates in the afternoon, but he got a last-minute call to respond to an ergency and couldn’t make it.

On the way to the site, he called Laura Yates, intending to check on her, but her phone was turned off.

This was the first ti Franklin Sutton encountered this situation; he knew Laura Yates’s work always kept her phone on twenty-four hours, and it had never been turned off before.

But since there was a homicide at the scene, Franklin Sutton focused on the investigation there, without the ti to analyze why Laura Yates’s phone was off.
