Both of them grew up in the orphanage, and they were practically reliant on each other for survival.
Faye had long considered Lan as her family, so even if Lan made a mistake, Faye couldn’t bring herself to let Shane Warner deal with her.
After a long silence, Faye stood up, looked at Lan, who was smoking indifferently, and said, "I’ll protect you one last ti. Don’t do this kind of stupid thing again. If you want to resign, I’ll support you. I see that you haven’t been in a great state lately, so resign and take so ti to rest, do what you really want to do."
Saying that, Faye turned around and left.
...
Shane Warner was initially worried that after such an incident, Audrey might not sleep well at night. But when he went to her room, he found her sound asleep.
Though her brows were slightly furrowed, he wondered if she was having a bad dream.
Standing by her bed, he gently smoothed her brow with his hand. Seeing her expression relax, she shifted a bit, sleeping like she hadn’t a care in the world.
Glad she was unhard.
He felt her arrival had eased the pain of his brother’s passing. If anything happened to her, the scar on his heart might never heal.
With such an incident occurring, Shane felt sowhat unnerved. So, early the next day, he took Audrey back to The Suttons, instructing her not to leave the house during the day.
To understand what happened, Shane went directly to Starfield in the morning, hoping to talk with Lan again.
Lan usually arrived earlier than everyone else, while Faye was typically punctual.
But today, it was the opposite. He didn’t see Lan but ran into Faye in the parking lot instead.
"Master Shane." Faye greeted him, no longer casual as usual, clearly preoccupied.
"How’s the investigation going?"
Faye paused briefly, walking with Shane toward the elevator and said, "No need to investigate. I ca early today to tell you about this matter."
Shane gave him a puzzled look.
Faye pressed his lips together and spoke, "First, I must apologize to your wife for the incident. It should never have happened. Fortunately, she’s unhard and didn’t cause any major disturbance."
"Why are you apologizing?" Shane deliberately asked. The mont Faye said this, he knew the matter was related to Lan.
Sure enough, Faye continued, "I talked to Lan last night, and she admitted she was responsible for everything..."
"What’s the reason?"
"I don’t quite understand girls’ minds either, but I’ve severely reprimanded her last night. So, Master Shane, I’m asking you to spare her this one ti as a favor to . She was just montarily muddled."
Shane walked into the elevator, pressed the floor button, and said nonchalantly, "I’ve spared her many tis, but she keeps pushing the limits."
"I realize it was unforgivable for her to target your wife. I’ve warned her, and she’s willingly offered to resign. She won’t appear in front of you or your wife any longer. Please overlook her actions this once as a small favor to ." Faye smiled and spoke amiably.
"What if there’s a next ti?"
"I’ve educated her already, she surely wouldn’t dare act foolishly again. If she does anything that could threaten your wife, I’ll personally deal with her."
Shane didn’t express his stance imdiately, watching the elevator numbers rise, almost reaching the floor, he finally said, "If you truly want to protect her, keep an eye on her. Next ti, I won’t grant any favors."
Faye smiled broadly, "Thank you, Master Shane!"
Walking out of the elevator with Shane, Faye cheerfully asked, "How is your wife doing?"
"She’s fine, just a bit startled."
Before Faye could say anything, Shane added, "Though she’s always been kind of silly."
"Your wife isn’t silly at all. She’s playing the fool to catch the tiger. Look at how formidable you appear, yet you’re wrapped around her finger." Faye chuckled.
Shane smiled without comnting, though he was indeed the family head, yet everyone seed to think his status at ho was less than Audrey’s.
...
Audrey spent the day painting, not ntioning to her family about being kidnapped yesterday.
During lunchti, her mom asked her to take food to Shane, having just experienced such an event, Audrey felt sowhat intimidated. She used a reason Shane had crafted for her, saying he had a company lunch today, and no need to deliver food.
She pondered but couldn’t figure out who kidnapped her. She doubted whether Lan or Clarissa would stoop to such crude ans, especially as it was illegal. Could it be a random act by strangers?
But if it was strangers, why was Simon present at the scene?
Audrey contacted Simon in the morning to learn about the circumstances, but Simon provided no valuable clues and rely suggested she be cautious when going out alone in the future.
"Buzz buzz——"
The phone on Shane’s desk vibrated briefly. He set down his pen and picked it up to see it was a ssage from Audrey.
He changed her phone contact na to "Little Cabbage."
Little Cabbage: Has that bad person been caught?
Y: Just half a day locked up and you’re already impatient?
Little Cabbage: I can’t always stay indoors. I can’t let the bad person get away either.
Y: Just be obedient and don’t wander off.
Little Cabbage: Should I go to the police station to give a statent?
Y: Knowing nothing three tis over, it’s pointless for you to go.
Little Cabbage: But I’m the victim!
Y: Should your second brother investigate you?
Little Cabbage: I’m serious! This matter is serious, alright? If they don’t catch that person, I won’t be able to sleep at night.
Y: You seed to sleep quite well last night.
Little Cabbage: Did you go to my room again?!
Y: No.
Little Cabbage: Liar.
Afraid she’d start pestering him for keys again, Shane imdiately switched topics: What did you have for lunch?
Little Cabbage: My grandma made barbecued pork. It’s delicious, she saved you so to try tonight.
Y: Hmm, then I’ll get to work now. Be good and don’t wander off.
Audrey sent a cat with a cute "Okay" ssage in it.
Audrey put down her phone, turned, and lay on the bed, feeling like Shane didn’t really take the kidnapping seriously.
She thought he’d promptly find clues and catch the culprit, but he was vague about the matter.
The sa went for Simon.
She felt like they knew sothing but weren’t telling her, only advising her to be cautious.
It made her feel left in the dark, a feeling she didn’t like. It seed like they were protecting the culprit.
Or is it that this person is so powerful even Shane wouldn’t dare act?
But she couldn’t rember provoking such a person; it was baffling to be randomly kidnapped without any robbery or assault.
