Shane’s words couldn’t be more obvious. He heard that Clarissa Morgan was going to be a teacher at Audrey Sutton’s school and was worried that while he wasn’t there, Clarissa might play tricks on Audrey. Essentially, he was telling Audrey not to interact with Clarissa alone.
"Got it, bye-bye hubby!"
Shane stood by the car and waved to her, "Go back quickly."
Audrey originally planned to watch Shane leave first, since Clarissa hadn’t left yet. But she realized that if she didn’t leave first, Shane probably wouldn’t leave either.
Turning back every few steps, Shane just stood by the car, smiling as he watched her from a distance.
Audrey also trusted that Shane wouldn’t get too entangled with Clarissa. She stuffed the thousand or so dollars Shane had given her into her bag and ran back to the dormitory comfortably.
"How did it go, how did it go?"
"Did you get cheated on?" As soon as Audrey walked into the dorm, Flora and Barry Barrett imdiately ca over gossiping.
Audrey glared at them irritably, "Can’t you wish well?"
Barry Barrett: "No, I’m unbalanced inside."
Flora sighed to the sky, "When the hell will I et my Prince Charming?"
Audrey: "By the way, Flora, now that school has started, how’s the work at the shop arranged?"
Flora: "The store manager is pretty nice, knows I’m still in school, so just lets co when I have ti. Wages are calculated by the hour, so working half a day is still money. And the employee benefits your hubby gave are really too good, this month I should be making over ten thousand."
"Flora, don’t stress too much, focus on your studies. It’s okay whether you pay rent or not, just make so money enough for your expenses."
Flora dramatically showed her gratitude, hugging Audrey tightly, "Audrey, you’re really my little cotton-padded jacket."
Audrey rolled her eyes and jokingly told her to scram, "I’m helping you and you’re taking advantage of ."
"He said he loved but wasn’t sincere..." Audrey turned to pick up her ringing phone on the bed. Looking at the caller ID, she mumbled to herself before answering, "Sister Phoebe?"
As soon as the call connected, Phoebe King’s voice ca through, "Audrey, did your brother go to school today?"
"No, he’s waiting for class to start. Should still be at ho."
"So... do you know how things are going between him and Ms. Sherman?"
Audrey sat on the bed, folding clothes at her side as she replied, "When I went ho for dinner the other day, I heard my mom ask my brother if he had considered marriage. From what he said, it seed like he didn’t want to marry early, claiming he and Rosalind Sherman were just friends."
"So he’s not with Rosalind yet? Got it, thanks, Audrey, I’ll treat you to dinner another day."
"Beep——"
After "using" Audrey, Phoebe hung up the call swiftly.
The Suttons.
Hazel Yates and Samuel Sutton returned from grocery shopping. As soon as the car reached the gate, they saw a girl standing and peeking inside through the iron gate.
"Isn’t she the girl we planned to introduce to our third son last ti?" Hazel muttered while looking out the car window, then asked the driver to park by the roadside.
Hazel opened the door and stepped out, speaking to the peering girl, "Phoebe? It’s really you?"
Phoebe flinched nervously and turned to see Hazel, imdiately standing straight and ended her sneaky behavior with a smile, "Hello, Aunt."
"Here for Audrey, huh?"
"Oh... yeah, yeah, I called her but didn’t get through, so I wasn’t sure if she was ho."
"Today is the start of school, she went there and probably got busy, might have ignored her phone. Are you looking for her for sothing? Do you need Aunt to pass on a ssage for you?"
Phoebe chuckled awkwardly, unable to co up with a suitable reason quickly, "It’s nothing much, really. Just ca to hang out with her. If she’s not ho, I’ll co another day."
Though she said so, internally she was reluctant. She had reached the doorstep.
Hoping that Stephen Sutton wouldn’t answer her calls to et, she planned to wait for him to co out.
But given the situation, she felt embarrassed to linger outside.
Preparing to leave sheepishly, she heard Hazel gently and kindly inviting, "Since you’re here, co inside for a bit. If you have ti, stay for lunch before you go?"
Phoebe instantly felt it was a golden opportunity sent by the heavens, smiled sweetly at Hazel without any hesitation, "Well, thank you, Aunt. Audrey always praised your cooking, I’ve wanted to try it for ages."
Hazel warmly invited her in, holding Phoebe’s cold hand as they walked towards the gate, "There’s no trouble at all. You’re welco any ti. Adding a pair of chopsticks, that’s all."
Phoebe politely and sweetly replied, "Thank you, Aunt!"
She thought to herself that getting along with her future mother-in-law wasn’t a bad idea.
Phoebe followed Hazel inside, who led her to the living room and invited her to sit. As they entered the living room, Stephen happened to co downstairs holding a water glass.
Seeing Phoebe in his ho, his expression was darker than any of the previous tis he t her.
Hazel noticed Stephen coming down and introduced Phoebe, "This is Audrey’s brother; you’ve t him during the New Year, don’t know if you still rember."
Phoebe glanced at Stephen and replied with a smile, "I rember, I rember!"
"Auntie Linton, there are so strawberries in the kitchen basket and fruits in the fridge. Could you make a platter, please?" Hazel instructed the housekeeper and led Phoebe to the sofa, "Have a seat, this is a hand warr Audrey bought, cover your hands, they’re so cold."
"Thank you, Aunt!"
"Would you like to watch TV? Stephen, could you turn on the TV for Phoebe? I can’t figure it out."
"Aunt, you don’t have to be so polite; I can do it myself."
Hazel still beckoned Stephen over, "Please help Phoebe turn on the TV. I’ll go to the kitchen to prepare lunch and call Audrey to see if she’ll be ho for lunch, saying Phoebe ca looking for her."
Stephen glanced at Phoebe twice before responding, "Alright."
Hazel and Auntie Linton went to the kitchen, leaving Phoebe and Stephen alone in the living room.
Stephen walked to the coffee table and picked up the TV remote, asking Phoebe while he turned on the television, "What do you want?"
Phoebe asserted, "I’m here to see Audrey."
Stephen adjusted the television, taking half a minute, without saying another word to Phoebe.
After setting the TV, he placed the remote back on the table and was about to leave.
Phoebe hastily called out, "Aren’t you, as the host, supposed to accompany the guest?"
