After sending the ssage, Phoebe King stood motionlessly by the door in a daze.
Perhaps it was because she had been drinking, her whole being seed sowhat dazed.
The corridor was quiet, the voice-activated lights dimd, and it was pitch black.
The door did not open, and Stephen Sutton did not reply to the ssage.
Feeling sowhat dejected, Phoebe King stood by the door, reached into her bag, pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, leaned against the wall by the door, and lit a cigarette.
Stephen Sutton ca out of the bathroom after his shower and, sitting by the bed to check the ti on his phone, discovered a new ssage.
After opening it and finding out it was from Phoebe King, Stephen Sutton frowned, and when he saw the content of the ssage, he glanced towards the door.
Lowering his head again to check the ti the ssage was sent, it had been about ten minutes.
Hesitating, he got up and walked to the door, looked through the peephole to see outside, but saw no one.
He gently opened the door, looking left and right, and saw no one.
Looking down, he saw so cigarette ashes scattered on the white floor by the door.
Neither he nor Teacher Linton next door smoked, and he rembered Phoebe King had this bad habit. The day he t her at the bar, he saw her with a cigarette in her mouth, looking quite roguish.
The ashes indicated she had been there, but coming all this way and leaving after ten minutes without waiting for him to open the door was uncharacteristic of her.
Based on her past temperant, she would have found every way to pester him into opening the door for her.
Perhaps his long-standing indifference had dampened her enthusiasm.
That might be for the best, she would eventually give up and stop bothering him.
As Stephen Sutton thought this, he reached to close the door.
Just as the door was about to close fully, the action suddenly halted.
Pausing for two seconds, the door reopened.
Stephen Sutton stepped toward the elevator on the floor, seeing it descending, and stopped right on the first floor.
Not sure if the person using the elevator at this hour was Phoebe King, Stephen Sutton turned and walked to the window down the corridor to look downstairs.
After a mont, he saw a girl’s figure walking out of the building.
Stephen Sutton wasn’t wearing his glasses, so he squinted slightly to see more clearly.
The distance was a bit far, though he still could not see the girl’s face clearly, he was certain it was Phoebe King.
Turns out she just left.
This likely indicated there was no fate between them.
She said she had sothing to tell him, what could it be?
Stephen Sutton stood by the window watching her walk away, until her figure disappeared into the night before he withdrew his thoughts.
Forget it, what serious business could she have? Most likely looking for a random excuse to see him.
This ti she left dispirited, so there probably wouldn’t be a next ti, and life could beco peaceful.
Stephen Sutton sighed, unsure whether he was feeling relieved or sighing about sothing.
After spring, the weather got warr day by day.
After Audrey Sutton started school, Shane felt she was even busier than he was.
She would go to school early in the morning, and if there weren’t classes, she’d either be in the library or the art studio, not even coming to the company to have lunch with him, and only seeing him after he got off work in the evening.
But once ho, she would shut herself in her room and rush to finish her artwork.
Shane felt like a consort who had fallen out of favor; this girl said she liked him, yet only exchanged a few words with him each day, hardly resembling soone who liked him.
During this period, Shane wasn’t too busy, with not much happening at the company, planning initially to spend the weekend shopping, dating, or watching a movie with her.
But on Saturday morning, while he was working out at the gym, Audrey Sutton ca in all dressed up.
Instead of asking him to breakfast like usual, she said, "I have sothing to do today, there are cookies and bread on the coffee table, feel free to have so."
Shane released his grip on the pull-up bar, wiped the sweat from his face with a towel, and turned to ask her, "Where are you going this ti?"
"My sister-in-law asked to see . A scriptwriter is interested in my comic and wants to discuss it in person. If they really like it, it might be made into a TV series." Audrey Sutton envisioned with a face full of smiles.
"When will you be back?"
"Probably after lunch, but in the afternoon, Sister Phoebe asked to accompany her to get a tooth extraction."
Shane: "She needs you with her to get a tooth pulled?"
Audrey Sutton murmured, "Getting a tooth pulled is scary, having soone with you is better."
Actually, she knew Phoebe mainly wanted to inquire about her older brother from her.
"Alright, I’m heading out now."
Shane frowned slightly and said, "Wait for to finish my shower, and I’ll give you a ride."
Audrey Sutton: "No need, my sister-in-law is driving to pick up, she’ll be here soon. You do your own thing."
As Audrey Sutton said this, she was already turning her steps to walk away.
Shane looked displeased, not even in the mood to continue exercising.
Feeling that she had been increasingly ignoring him lately, not cooking or delivering als, he could overlook, but she didn’t even stay ho to spend ti with him.
Always accompanying this person or that person, but never him.
Audrey Sutton was full of thoughts about her comic potentially being turned into a TV series, not noticing any of the petty thoughts in Shane’s mind.
She even thought that he would be pleased she wasn’t bothering him.
After chatting with the other team all morning, even though no formal agreent was signed yet, it seed mostly finalized.
They finished lunch a little after one in the afternoon.
Laura Yates drove Audrey Sutton to the front of the dentist’s office, "When is your friend coming? Do you need to stay with you?"
"No need, sister-in-law, she’ll be here soon, you go ahead and do your thing."
"Alright then, get back to your drawing well, don’t slack off."
"Got it!"
"Alright, I’m off."
Audrey Sutton waved to Laura Yates, watching her drive away.
Audrey truly adored this sister-in-law, initially, because Laura Yates’s na appeared at Shane’s wedding, causing Audrey to be sowhat hostile towards her.
But now, Audrey was more concerned about whether her big simple brother could manage to marry Laura Yates.
Audrey had asked when Laura Yates planned to marry her brother, and Laura’s response was, "With his current performance, I’m not considering marrying him yet."
Franklin Sutton was usually busy with work, disappearing for three to five days with every case, leaving little ti to spend with Laura Yates.
Furthermore, Audrey knew her brother was too clumsy to sweet-talk people, and sotis thick-headed, not particularly careful or considerate.
He’s like a classic blockheaded male, unknowingly upsetting people without realizing it.
Audrey even worried for him, fearing that one day Laura Yates might truly get fed up and leave.
Just after Laura Yates drove off, a silver-gray Porsche pulled up by the roadside.
