Audrey Sutton sat next to him, staring at him for a while but couldn’t figure it out, so she simply leaned in with a flattering smile and asked, "What’s wrong with you?"
Shane Warner just glanced at her as she leaned in, then looked disdainfully at Pea in her arms, "Get away a bit, you’re getting fur all over ."
Audrey Sutton pouted and bent down to gently place Pea on the floor.
Pea, unaware of being rejected, stretched lazily on the floor, lazily wagging his tail, and walked elegantly and proudly toward his cat bed.
Audrey Sutton reached out gently to brush away the white cat hair stuck on his dark blue silk robe, asking him, "What are you angry about?"
Shane Warner switched TV channels with the remote control, "When did I say I was angry?"
Audrey Sutton: "Then why are you unhappy? Didn’t you seem fine when I left this morning?"
Shane Warner: "I’m very happy."
Audrey Sutton: "Your face is practically drooping all the way to your belly button."
With these words, Shane Warner’s expression turned even uglier.
Audrey Sutton picked up the fruit knife on the coffee table and started peeling an apple, "I wasn’t even ho today, how did I manage to upset you?"
Shane Warner: "I told you I’m not angry."
Audrey Sutton stared at him, really couldn’t think of a reason for his anger, but his deanor was clearly showing so unusual emotion.
"Then why didn’t you go to work today?"
Shane Warner’s voice turned sarcastic again, "My wife is capable now, she can earn money, so I don’t have to work so hard. Living off her isn’t bad."
Although it sounded like he was praising her, Audrey Sutton felt it wasn’t really like that.
Why did it feel like he was being sour about it?
Shouldn’t her ability to earn money be encouraged? Instead, he was giving cold sarcasm.
This period has been cold, staying up late every night, yet he didn’t show any concern for her health, and was mocking her instead.
"You should be happy that I’m successful."
Shane Warner: "I am very happy."
Audrey Sutton: "..."
What kind of nonsense is this man on?
After peeling the apple, Audrey Sutton cut a slice and put it in her mouth to taste, "It’s sweet, try it."
She said and handed him a slice. Shane Warner just glanced at the apple in her hand, without saying a word or opening his mouth, clearly not wanting to eat.
"If you don’t want it, forget it." Audrey Sutton muttered, putting the apple into her own mouth.
He switched to a channel playing financial news, put down the remote, his gaze fixed on the television, no longer glancing at Audrey Sutton.
Audrey Sutton was clueless on this topic, not even knowing how to find a talking point.
Afraid if she rambled on random things, he might find her annoying.
Audrey Sutton sat on the sofa for a while, and after finishing the apple in her hand, saw he seed uninterested in what she had done outside today.
Afraid of accidentally setting off this bomb, Audrey Sutton quietly got up and went upstairs.
Shane Warner’s gaze finally drifted from the television to Audrey Sutton’s retreating figure up the stairs; she just left like that?
Looks like he really has fallen out of favor.
Is it because after confirming their relationship, she beca fearless with him?
Audrey Sutton returned to the room, lay in bed and chatted on her phone for a while before Laura Yates started urging her to submit the manuscript. Audrey Sutton reluctantly put down her phone, walked to the desk, and turned on the computer.
The small speaker on the desk played her favorite music, she picked up a paintbrush and focused on her creation.
Looking up, she noticed the sky outside was getting dark, realizing it was already close to six o’clock.
Imdiately putting down her brush, she went downstairs to prepare dinner.
Downstairs was quiet; the TV was silent.
The lights were off, Pea and General were sleeping, and Shane Warner’s figure was nowhere to be seen.
After searching downstairs, Audrey Sutton ran upstairs, knocking on his bedroom door and asked, "What do you want for dinner tonight?"
One second, two seconds...
No response.
Audrey Sutton reached out to push open the door and peeked inside; the room was dim, the bed neat, evidently, he wasn’t there.
Then she went to his study, knocked again and still got no response; she turned the door handle but found it locked, indicating he wasn’t inside.
As the study door was usually locked, if he were inside, the door would be open.
To confirm, Audrey Sutton crouched down and checked through the gap under the door to confirm there was no light inside.
The gym was also quiet; had he gone out?
Audrey Sutton returned to her room and took out her phone to call him; it rang for a long ti before he answered.
When the call connected, what ca through wasn’t his voice, but deafening music, as if he was in a bar or KTV.
"...Where are you?"
On the phone, he didn’t respond imdiately, seemingly finding a quieter place, the music faded, before his voice sounded, "What’s up?"
A cold voice.
Audrey Sutton asked again, "Where are you?"
Shane Warner: "Outside."
Audrey Sutton: "...Are you coming back for dinner tonight?"
Shane Warner: "Eating outside."
Audrey Sutton: "...Oh, are you with friends?"
Shane Warner: "Yeah."
Audrey Sutton: "Alright then... When are you coming back tonight?"
Shane Warner: "Depends."
Audrey Sutton: "Try to co back early, drink less."
Sothing felt off, but Audrey Sutton couldn’t pinpoint why.
Thinking it’s normal for him to hang out with friends, she couldn’t always tag along where he went; she should give him so private space.
She believed nothing inappropriate would happen outside...right?
Audrey Sutton thought this in her heart but still couldn’t completely stop herself from worrying about it.
Had no appetite for dinner, so she grabbed so cookies from the coffee table and headed upstairs.
Again taking up the brush, yet couldn’t quiet her mind.
What happened to him? What went wrong?
Did he feel bored being with her, causing this strange change?
Audrey Sutton took out her phone, stared blankly at the screen, unable to think of a solution.
After much hesitation, Audrey Sutton dialed Faye Xavier’s number.
However, what she didn’t know is Shane Warner was sitting right beside Faye Xavier at that mont.
Faye Xavier paused for a mont when receiving Audrey Sutton’s call, seeing Shane Warner’s gaze already shifted towards her, Faye Xavier awkwardly smiled and offered the phone to Shane Warner, saying, "Your wife checking up on you again?"
Shane Warner: "Contact often?"
Faye Xavier was startled and quickly denied, "How would I dare? It’s only when she can’t find you that she calls , always asking about you."
Shane Warner snorted, reached out, and tapped the red button on Faye Xavier’s phone screen.
Faye Xavier was montarily stunned, then said, "Master Shane, you hung up, she can’t bla ."
Shane Warner took a sip from his glass, calmly said, "She doesn’t know."
Faye Xavier: "..."
