Audrey Sutton was wrapped in the blanket, she should have been warm.
But when she heard Shane Warner’s soft "little darling," she got goosebumps instead.
Yet those three words were insidiously sweet.
Clearly, it’s a cheesy line, but coming from him, it didn’t sound the least bit flirtatious or insincere.
Getting him to say "I was wrong" was a groundbreaking mont.
"Co on, be good and co out."
Audrey suddenly realized how unsettling it was when he actually tried to coax her.
She pulled back the blanket and looked at him, expecting him to be nonchalant while saying those silly words, yet he still had that serious deanor.
Not only did she not let it go, she even pressed on, looking at him with teary eyes, appearing aggrieved yet pitiful as she said rather unreasonably, "Are you going to say it or not?"
He feigned confusion, "Hmm?"
Audrey frowned to remind him, "Say you like !"
He looked at her indulgently, and said right away, "You like ."
Audrey was annoyed, "You’re supposed to say you like !"
He smiled deeply, "I didn’t say it wrong."
Knowing he was teasing her on purpose, Audrey tried another approach, "You’re supposed to say ’I like you’!"
"Mm, I understand. Liking can’t satisfy your hunger, hurry and get up for dinner." He said as he slipped the slippers he had brought in earlier onto her feet.
Just as he put them on, Audrey kicked them off, "I just want to hear you say it! If you don’t say it, I won’t eat!"
He patiently picked up the kicked-off slippers again, gently putting them back on her feet, earnestly saying, "It’s foolish to use yourself to threaten others, you know?"
Audrey imdiately replied, "But if that person cares about , then it’s not foolish at all."
He put on the other slipper for her, looked up and said, "You’re only able to threaten ."
Audrey was montarily stunned, then he gently lifted the blanket wrapped around her, holding her hand to help her out of bed, "If I didn’t like you, this marriage would have ended long ago."
Even though Audrey had thought of this before, still: "In that case, why is it so hard for you to say you like ?"
"I like you." His gaze was full of affection, and his tone sincere, but Audrey didn’t feel as fulfilled as she had imagined.
Was it because she had coerced him into saying it?
"Do you feel a bit better now? It’s just four words, but you managed to cry over it, and that might only happen with you."
Audrey felt he had conceded, and she seed to have no more reason to continue making a fuss. She obediently got out of bed, murmuring under her breath, "But to , it’s not just ’four words’."
Shane smiled without saying anything further to her, simply holding her hand as they walked downstairs.
Audrey didn’t quite understand why, but she still felt a bit stifled in her heart.
Was it really because she was too conflicted inside, too hard to please?
It was her who forced him to confess, but even after he did as she wished, she still felt unhappy.
She didn’t want to hear grand speeches, just a simple "I like you."
For dinner, he made all her favorite dishes, not once showing a hint of annoyance despite her tantrum, remaining gentle and patient throughout.
Everything seed to et the standards she had set for him in her heart, yet it still felt like sothing was missing.
After dinner, Audrey noticed a ssage in the dorm group chat from Flora: "8:30 tonight at ’Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon’ Don’t miss it! Even those with husbands or boyfriends can’t be absent! If you miss, we’re no longer friends!"
Barry Barrett imdiately responded below: "Flora, did you get dumped again?"
Flora: "Dumped my foot, I just got paid! Haven’t gone out for fun in a while, get ready and hurry up."
Feeling a bit stifled, Audrey thought it might be good to go out and unwind.
She glanced at the darkening sky outside, then at Shane Warner who was organizing the spices by the sink.
Audrey pursed her lips, stood up, and walked over to him, saying, "I want to go out and play."
Shane looked at her, seeming a bit surprised that she wanted to go out at this hour, but nodded first before asking, "Where do you want to go?"
"To the bar, my fourth brother’s bar."
Initially thinking she wanted to go out with him, hearing her answer and seeing her worried expression for his disapproval, he asked, "Are you eting soone?"
Audrey nodded, handing over her phone to show him Flora’s invitation page, "Flora and the girls."
"Do you want to go with you?"
Audrey glanced at him, mumbling, "It’s just us girls, why would you co?"
Shane placed the spice bottles neatly, turned around, and began washing his hands at the sink, saying, "If you don’t let go with you, do you think I’d let you out at this hour?"
Audrey: "..."
Well, that actually made sense.
"Then you can find a table and drink by yourself, and I’ll co get you when I’m ready to leave, how’s that?" she suggested.
Shane turned off the faucet, wiped his hands with a nearby towel, and looked at her as he asked, "Can you bear to leave aside?"
Audrey did feel it was a bit excessive, but when chatting with her girlfriends, the topics often drifted towards random things about n, and she couldn’t let the subject sit there and listen, could she?
After a quick thought, she suggested to Shane, "Why don’t you invite Brother Xavier and the others? You do your thing, I’ll do mine, and I’ll find you when it’s ti to go ho."
"What’s fun with them?"
"Anything as long as it doesn’t involve other won." Audrey was clearly set on this idea and even felt it was a perfect solution, so she quickly ran upstairs, saying, "I’m going to put on so makeup."
Seeing her mood improved a bit from when they were having dinner, Shane didn’t say much.
He changed his clothes and waited downstairs for about twenty minutes before he saw her coming down.
Maybe she really knew he would check her outfit, for compared to the heavily made-up, strappy short dress she wore at the bar last ti, she was much more reserved today.
However, her dress was still form-fitting, beautifully accentuating her waist and hips, long-sleeved yet off-shoulder, leaving her collarbones and shoulders exposed.
Accepting his gaze, Audrey felt a little self-conscious under his stare as she walked down, stopping about a ter from him and asked, pursing her lips, "Do I look good?"
He casually replied with an "Mm," his tone indifferent, even sounding a bit perfunctory. But for Audrey, as long as he didn’t make fun of her, it was as good as a complint.
Shane stood up and reached out to tug her off-shoulder dress up a bit, managing to cover her shoulders. He then swept her hair from the back forward, trying to hide sothing with her hair.
Audrey: "..."
Not daring to refute him openly, she followed him towards the door, but as she walked behind him, she secretly pulled down her shoulder slightly where he had awkwardly adjusted it.
