Barry: "That’s the logic behind it, but I always feel like I’m the only one worried about breaking up. He doesn’t seem in a hurry to marry , nor afraid I’ll change my mind or anything."
Audrey pursed her lips, wanting to say sothing but hesitated.
Ever since that night, she always felt that Nolan wasn’t as simple as he seed on the surface, perhaps just a scoundrel hiding it well. After all, even Flora, who was like a scoundrel detector, couldn’t see through Nolan’s true nature, let alone Barry, who had little experience in love.
She had to figure out a way to expose Nolan’s true self. If he really was a complete scoundrel, it would help Barry get out of the relationship sooner.
However, she didn’t know much about Nolan, nor where to start. Should she hire a paparazzi to keep an eye on him?
Her brother opened a bar and knew a lot of people with various connections, so Audrey imdiately texted Scott, asking: "Do you know any ’private detective’ type of people?"
Scott replied imdiately: "Why? Is your husband seeing soone else?"
Seeing this response, Audrey "tsk"ed in her mind, explaining: "Not checking on my husband, asking for a friend."
Scott: "Friend out of thin air."
Scott: "What kind do you need? Finding cheaters, investigating cases, or so black technology?"
Audrey rolled her eyes, typing back: "No need for anything high-end, just ordinary paparazzi will do."
Scott quickly recomnded a contact card and said: "ntion my na for free."
Audrey sent a "hehe" emoji: "Thanks, brother!"
Scott worriedly asked again: "Is Shane cheating? If so, we need to talk to him."
Audrey: "No! I said it’s for my friend!"
Scott remained doubtful but didn’t ask further.
Audrey chatted with the detective nicknad "Quinn," and sent Nolan’s photo over.
Quinn said he recognized the person, and Audrey was startled, thinking she had accidentally found soone familiar with Nolan.
Quinn said: "I’ve often seen this guy when tailing female celebrities before."
Audrey imdiately asked: "Do you have any photos from before? Can I take a look?"
Quinn: "Young lady, this is a secret in our industry. I’ve already shared a lot with you, but I can’t just hand over photos. From my impression, they only had normal friendly interactions, nothing too intimate that could make headlines."
Audrey: "Then please keep an eye on this person for a couple of days, just to see who he associates with, especially focusing on the won around him."
Quinn sent an "ok" gesture.
Although Scott said it was free, Audrey still sent a big red envelope and said: "Thanks in advance, Quinn. This is my initial paynt; for the rest you can ask my brother."
Quinn, being generous, said: "Scott told you’re his sister. I’ve been friends with him for over a decade. This little favor doesn’t require paynt. Keep the money for yourself to buy snacks."
With that, Quinn refunded all the transfers.
Audrey laughed, thinking her brother’s connections were solid. Since Quinn said that, she didn’t insist further.
Quinn also promised to inform Audrey imdiately if there was any news.
Audrey wasn’t sure if Nolan was truly the type to have multiple affairs. In any case, it was reassuring to confirm, as it concerned Barry’s happiness for the rest of her life.
If nothing was found, that would be fine; but if sothing was uncovered, helping Barry leave the scoundrel sooner would be better than continuing to be deceived.
Although such a result might be sowhat cruel, Nolan was Barry’s first true boyfriend after all, and she had always trusted him greatly. Audrey couldn’t imagine how heartbroken Barry would be if she broke up with Nolan...
"Sutton, do you think this ring looks good?"
Audrey turned off her phone screen and looked at the screen Barry handed to her, which showed a picture of diamond couple’s rings, with a delicate design.
Audrey nodded: "It’s pretty. Didn’t you say Brother Hawke hasn’t proposed yet? Why are you already looking at wedding rings?"
Barry laughed: "I’m just checking them out. In case Brother Hawke proposes soday and takes to buy rings, I can choose this one. I even have lots of wedding dress pictures saved in my album; I’ve prepared everything, just waiting for Brother Hawke to propose."
Audrey smiled without saying anything, seeing the hopefulness on Barry’s face, her heart was filled with mixed emotions.
At noon, a driver ca to pick Audrey up from the school.
Audrey went ho first to prepare lunch, then packed the food in a lunchbox and delivered it to the company.
Starfield was preparing to launch new products recently, so Shane almost spent all his ti at Starfield.
Since Lan resigned, Audrey didn’t react much when she heard Shane was going to Starfield. Previously, whenever Lan was there and Shane was headed to Starfield, Audrey would start worrying about Lan stirring trouble.
Now that Lan was gone, Audrey worried more about her causing trouble, as she had followed Ivan. Celestine and Starfield had always had a competitive relationship.
Lan, being soone who knew Starfield thoroughly, had now joined Celestine, making Audrey worried about any threats she might pose to Starfield.
The car stopped at Starfield’s entrance, and Audrey walked in confidently with the lunchbox. She happened to bump into Julian in the lobby.
He was also walking toward the elevator, and they t at the elevator doors.
Audrey awkwardly smiled at Julian, who simply nodded with a blank expression, leaving Audrey unsure how to start a conversation, as it was evident Julian wasn’t keen on engaging with her.
They both entered the elevator, awkwardly finding themselves alone inside.
Audrey stood in the corner close to the back of the elevator, while Julian stood by the buttons, pressing the floor number before turning his head to ask Audrey: "Madam, you’re going to see Shane?"
Audrey chuckled dryly, nodded, and silence returned to the elevator.
Shane’s other friends all called her "sister-in-law," which Audrey found friendly like family, while Julian always formally called her "madam."
Julian was older than Shane by a few years, so calling her "sister-in-law" wasn’t quite appropriate. However, Audrey rembered, the first ti eting Julian in Shane’s office, Shane introduced her as soone Julian could call "Audrey" or "Sutton."
Perhaps, due to their naturally distant relationship, Julian never called her by her nickna.
"Dingdong—" The elevator stopped at the top floor. Despite being closer to the door, Julian courteously glanced at Audrey, indicating for her to exit first.
Audrey stepped out, with Julian following closely behind, seemingly also heading to Shane’s office. Audrey asked: "Mr. Bishop, are you going to see Shane too?"
