At noon, after class, Audrey Sutton headed to the cafeteria to et up with Flora and the others.
Flora Lane and Seraphina Vaughn didn’t have any classes in the morning, so they arrived early at the restaurant and ordered dishes, waiting for Audrey Sutton and Barry Barrett.
Audrey Sutton had just arrived when Barry Barrett walked into the restaurant.
What surprised Audrey Sutton was that Nolan Hawke ca along with them.
Whenever Nolan Hawke ca to school to join Barry Barrett for a al, Flora Lane would shalessly bring Seraphina Vaughn and Audrey Sutton to grab a free al too, so when Flora Lane saw Nolan Hawke arrive, she imdiately added a stool beside the round table, laughingly saying, "The one paying is here, sit down, sit down fast."
Barry Barrett walked over holding Nolan Hawke’s hand and teased, "Flora, can you stop being so blunt?"
"Family doesn’t differentiate, sit down and eat quickly, I’m starving."
Audrey Sutton sat with Flora Lane on her left and Seraphina Vaughn on her right, and Nolan Hawke was sitting almost directly opposite her at the round table, easily visible with a lift of her head.
So, throughout the al, Audrey Sutton kept her head down.
At the dining table, Nolan Hawke acted as usual, amicably joking with everyone, keeping the atmosphere fairly genial.
Quinn had been following Nolan Hawke for a week but found nothing, Audrey Sutton felt too embarrassed to ask him to keep tailing, but in her heart, she still thought Nolan Hawke wasn’t soone good.
Nolan Hawke’s subsequent actions validated Audrey Sutton’s suspicions.
After the al, Audrey Sutton returned to her dormitory and had just opened her computer to start painting when she received a ssage from Nolan Hawke on her phone.
When Audrey Sutton picked up her phone, she glanced at Barry Barrett, who was lying on the bed playing gas.
She felt guilty about being in contact with Nolan Hawke, yet thought if Nolan Hawke indeed harbored inappropriate fantasies, then she should help Barry Barrett see what kind of person Nolan Hawke is.
Audrey Sutton opened the ssage, Nolan Hawke sent a text: Audrey, is it convenient for you to co out and et?
Audrey Sutton paused briefly, typed a reply: Speak directly if you have sothing to say.
Nolan Hawke: I’ve been thinking a lot lately, but still can’t clearly figure out what I want. I tried wholeheartedly to be with Bear, but every ti I see you, I can’t help feeling affected. I think I’ve fallen for you.
Audrey Sutton bluntly replied: You’re disgusting.
That was her most honest thought at the mont.
She didn’t understand how Nolan Hawke could disguise his sleaziness so innocently, making it seem as if she was the one causing him distress.
Nolan Hawke: Audrey, don’t say that, I’m really sad. If it weren’t for you being married and losing the right to court you, I think I’d attempt breaking up with Bear to pursue you.
Audrey Sutton: I also hope you separate from Bear soon, you’re unworthy of her.
Nolan Hawke: Would you get a divorce?
Audrey Sutton: Are you nuts?
Nolan Hawke: I think you don’t truly understand Young Master Warner. If you knew his true colors, I believe you might reevaluate your current marriage.
Audrey Sutton: All I know now is that your true self is utterly repulsive.
Nolan Hawke: Did you know he’s killed soone?
Audrey Sutton was taken aback, her mind awhirl, but she didn’t ask for more or respond, simply blocked Nolan Hawke.
She turned to glance at Barry Barrett who was still engrossed in his ga, unsuspecting of anything; if she advised him to break up with Nolan Hawke now, he would certainly find it strange.
"Buzz buzz—"
A ssage popped up on the screen, sent from an unfamiliar number.
The ssage displayed: Do you think Third Young Master’s hands are clean given all he has achieved?
"Buzz buzz—"
Another new ssage appeared: Do you truly believe Sean Warner’s death was accidental?
Seeing the na "Sean Warner," Audrey Sutton’s hand paused from blocking the number.
How does Nolan Hawke know these things? Did he know Sean Warner before? How inford is he about what happened back then?
Audrey Sutton didn’t reply to the ssage and after waiting two minutes, the number didn’t send any more ssages.
Reading those two ssages on the screen, Audrey Sutton didn’t grasp their aning, but vaguely sensed Nolan Hawke was hinting at so link between Sean Warner’s death and Shane.
She wasn’t sure if Nolan Hawke had evidence or was simply spreading hearsay, but she unconditionally trusted Shane.
So, Audrey Sutton stopped fretting over the text’s content and directly blocked the number.
Whatever the cause of Sean Warner’s death might be, it’s not her concern; what kind of person Shane is, she doesn’t fully understand yet but knows at least he isn’t a bad man.
Even though Audrey Sutton blocked all contact from Nolan Hawke, his antics still disturbed her peace of mind, making it impossible to focus on her painting.
After four in the afternoon, Shane left work early to pick her up from school.
Audrey Sutton sat in the passenger seat, sipping the milk tea he had bought for her from Starfield, gazing at his hand on the steering wheel and the silver ring around his left index finger.
Soone who always carries his brother’s belongings, how could he possibly harm his own brother?
Even though his temper is not very good usually, it’s hard to imagine him committing murder.
Clearly, Nolan Hawke is trying to sow discord, she cannot fall for his ploy.
The car stopped at a red light, Shane pulled over and turned to ask Audrey Sutton, "Heatstroke? Why so dull and listless?"
Audrey Sutton pulled back her wandering thoughts, slightly smiled, "Not at all."
"What are you thinking about?"
Audrey Sutton chuckled softly, "About my comic’s plot."
Referring to the comic, Shane’s gaze showed a hint of depth, his lips subtly rose.
He had read it the day it was released, and this ti there wasn’t any rabbit transforming into a handso guy in her illustrations. From character design to storyline, he could tell she was sketching the story between them.
Thus, soone who never read comics, Shane started following her comic updates.
Her comic featured not only their past stories but also her dreams and aspirations about love, allowing him to grasp what kind of romantic relationship her heart desires.
Like in the comic, when the male lead upsets the female lead, there are ways to cheer her up, and he considers using these tactics next ti to pacify her.
That night, Audrey Sutton had a nightmare.
No idea if it was because of the recent unresolved murder case or Nolan Hawke’s comnt "he’s killed soone."
Audrey Sutton woke up startled, under the night scenery outside the window, gazed at the sleeping Shane, unable to link this face with "the sinister murderer."
But why did Nolan Hawke say such things? Did he know confidential information or was he just making baseless claims?
While Audrey Sutton was lost staring at Shane’s face, Shane suddenly opened his eyes, Audrey Sutton felt a jolt, but soon heard a gentle voice asking her, "Had a nightmare?"
