Audrey Sutton secretly glanced at Vincent Warner; in truth, there were quite a few questions she wanted to ask him.
About the car accident from years ago.
But Audrey didn’t know how to bring it up, and she felt the elevator wasn’t the right place anyway.
She pressed her lips together, staring at the numbers rising on the elevator, and stayed silent.
Shane Warner had just co out of the eting room, and the first thing he did was take out his phone to contact Audrey Sutton.
In the quiet elevator, Audrey’s phone rang, and she imdiately freed her hand to fetch the phone from her bag.
"Shane is calling you, right?" Vincent asked with a smile.
Audrey glanced at the phone screen and smiled, nodding, "...Yes."
Vincent looked at her with a smile, and suddenly, Audrey felt that if Sean Warner were still around, he’d probably look at her the sa way.
Like seeing his brother living happily, a genuine smile from the heart.
Audrey started to believe his brother’s words even more, that Vincent might really be wronged. Over the years, he must have carried a lot of burdens on his shoulders and probably felt a lot of guilt towards Shane, but none of this was actually caused by him.
Only by finding out the truth of the matter could the misunderstanding between Vincent and Shane be resolved.
Before Audrey could reply to Shane’s ssage, the elevator reached the floor with a "ding," and the elevator doors slowly opened.
Coincidentally, Shane had just walked over and imdiately saw the two of them coming out of the elevator.
From the expressions on their faces, it seed there was so conversation in the elevator.
When Audrey saw Shane, she was montarily stunned. She noticed his gaze landing on Vincent, his face visibly displeased.
Audrey knew he was probably unhappy seeing her with Vincent, so she hurriedly walked out of the elevator, reached for his arm, and as they walked towards his office, she softly explained, "I happened to run into him downstairs, so we just took the elevator up together."
"Hmm."
Hearing his cold response, Audrey naturally felt that he was upset. Normally, he would have asked what they talked about in the elevator.
Seeing his displeased face, Audrey soothed him, "It was really just a coincidence. You’ve told to stay away from him, so why would I deliberately go looking for him?"
"I know. I’m not blaming you," he said and then added, "Didn’t I tell you not to co? Why did you still co over in such heavy rain?"
Seeing that he didn’t seem to mind the issue with Vincent anymore, Audrey felt relieved, smiled, and said, "How would you have such delicious als if I didn’t co?"
"You just don’t listen to ."
Audrey felt he was speaking with a double aning, but she pretended not to understand, grinning as she clung to his wrist and said playfully, "I wanted to see you, so I’ll co rain or shine."
Shane glanced at her, "Nonsense."
Audrey cheekily laughed, "Heh heh, it’s all the truth."
Upon entering the office, Audrey took the lunch boxes out of her bag one by one and arranged them on the coffee table, "All your favorite dishes, co over quickly, they’re still hot."
"I’ll wash my hands." With that, Shane stepped into the lounge, stayed in the bathroom, stood by the sink, turned on the faucet, bent over, and splashed water onto his face with his hands.
He tried to use this thod to calm himself down.
Looking up at himself in the mirror, visions of her kept flashing through his mind, images of the photos in her drawer, scenes of her chatting with Vincent...
He had no idea if she had secretly communicated with Vincent, and he was afraid to know.
Vincent was capable of anything; he could fra his brother and could fra him too. Suddenly, Shane feared that her appearance at his wedding back then wasn’t a coincidence...
He feared that this was all just an act, but he was now deep into the role.
If it was an act, he still wanted to play along with her, even if his character in the story wouldn’t have a happy ending.
When he walked out of the lounge, she had already set all the food on the table.
Sitting obediently on the sofa, waiting for him to co and eat.
Shane composed his emotions, suppressing the chaos in his heart, and sat down across from her.
With her around, his life had beco warm.
No one used to cook for him in varied ways every day and deliver it to the company.
Although he often teased her and criticized her cooking, he had long since co to love her cuisine. It wasn’t fancy delicacies, but ho-cooked dishes that gave the feeling of ho.
Every ti he took a bite, she’d eagerly ask, "Is it good?"
Today was no exception.
He just nodded, giving a muffled "Hmm."
He wasn’t teasing her, and Audrey felt unused to it.
"Are you still mad?"
Shane looked up at her, smiled, and asked, "Why do you think I’m mad?"
Seeing him smile, Audrey began to feel that she really misunderstood, "I thought you were unhappy. Your wife cos to bring you food in such heavy rain, and you’re still so cold and distant; next ti, I won’t bring you anything."
Shane chuckled, teasing her, "Then why don’t you co over and give a kiss?"
Audrey rolled her eyes at him, "Eat your food."
The two ate quietly for a few bites, and Audrey asked him again, "Is the food enough? I have more in my bowl."
Shane chuckled, "Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?"
Audrey was too lazy to argue about her appetite, so she just bragged, "I eat a lot, but I don’t gain weight; isn’t that great?"
"A bit chubby can be nice too."
When Shane spoke, his gaze flicked to her chest.
Audrey imdiately understood what he ant, frowning and muttering, "Starting tomorrow, I’m going to drink papaya juice!"
Shane: "Don’t. Isn’t it said that big chests an no brains? If you make your chest full, it would be like telling everyone you don’t have brains. As you are now, no one can tell if you have brains or not."
Audrey slamd her chopsticks down, crossing her arms angrily in front of her chest, "I don’t want to eat anymore!"
Shane took half of the boiled egg from his lunch box and placed it in Audrey’s bowl, smiling, "Eat it."
Audrey thought he was trying to coax her, and with a reluctant look, she picked up her chopsticks to eat again, only to hear him add, "Eggs nourish the brain."
She paused with her chopsticks, pouting, and retorted, "You’re the smart one!"
Saying this, like venting, she fiercely shoved the half egg he gave her into her mouth in two bites.
Eating so fast she almost choked. Shane nonchalantly handed her a cup of water, and Audrey took it, sipping to swallow the egg, muttering, "If you keep teasing , I won’t like you anymore."
