Before Audrey Sutton appeared, visiting the hospital alone was a routine, and he had tasted the lonely flavor of lying in the hospital bed alone for intravenous drips.
Later, when she appeared, she was always by his side during his illnesses and hospital stays, always chattering in his ear. Now, it seed he was suddenly a bit unaccustod to this quiet sense of loneliness.
Did her appearance make him more vulnerable than before?
But he rather enjoyed this change.
Only when life has concerns and expectations, can it be called happiness.
Looking up at the slowly falling drops of transparent dicine, Shane Warner suddenly realized that he started missing Audrey Sutton just as soon as she left, constantly checking his watch waiting for her to finish school,
and countless tis he wanted to pick up his phone to ssage her, but he didn’t want to disturb her classes, so he just scrolled through their old chat records and peeked at her social dia posts, but unfortunately, he could only see her last three days’ updates.
Having nothing else to do, he pulled out her comic but didn’t bother reading it. Instead, he just tipped her with money, wanting to hear her say things like "Love you, love you mwah mwah" again in the comnts section.
Just thinking about it brought a smile to Shane’s lips.
Dental Departnt.
Vanessa Sterling sat in the infusion area, looking at the large bottle of dicine that had just been replaced; it seed it wouldn’t finish anyti soon.
Then she glanced at Miles Sterling, who was sitting beside her with his head lowered, looking at his phone.
Hesitatingly, she spoke, "...If you have sothing to do, go ahead. You don’t need to wait here; I can go back by myself later."
Miles Sterling continued looking down at his phone and, after replying to a ssage, finally spoke coldly, "It’s not your place to tell what to do."
Hearing his words, Vanessa Sterling didn’t say anything more. She just sat quietly, watching other patients co and go.
Occasionally, she could hear a girl’s voice coming from his phone; he didn’t bother to hide it, listening on speaker.
The conversations were pretty flirtatious, enough to make soone with thinner skin blush upon hearing.
"Ding-dong—"
A new ssage ca in, and out of the corner of her eye, Vanessa saw Miles opening the voice ssage. A coquettish female voice said, "Co over now~ I’m ho alone~"
When Vanessa heard this, her heart trembled with a special sense of sha.
She also noticed the strange glances from passersby towards Miles.
Yet Miles, as if nothing happened, continued looking at his phone expressionlessly and replied with two words: slut.
Vanessa just kept her head down, looking elsewhere, pretending not to know Miles, fearing those passersby would look at her strangely too.
Fortunately, Miles put his phone away and, without a word to Vanessa, stood up and walked away.
Watching him pull out a cigarette pack and lighter from his pocket, Vanessa guessed he must be going to find a place to smoke.
After Miles left, Vanessa involuntarily breathed a sigh of relief.
With the hospital full of patients, it wasn’t long after Miles left that soone else took his seat.
Vanessa opened her mouth, wanting to say that the seat was taken, but then closed it, thinking it’s a public place after all, and the seat wasn’t hers alone, and perhaps Miles wouldn’t return.
So Vanessa acted as if she hadn’t noticed, looked at the drip bottle above, and pulled out her phone from her bag.
Usually, except for Laura Yates and Audrey Sutton, no one ssaged her much, so she just checked comic statistics and comnts on her phone.
Her comic was being adapted into a drama and was being heavily promoted by the website. Audrey’s comic was a hit, selling well across major platforms, so the most prominent recomndations on the website’s hopage were almost all her comics and Audrey’s.
Crystal Wilson’s comics, which used to top the charts, had now slipped to eighth or ninth place, with those behind closely catching up, threatening her chart position at any mont.
A while back, Crystal ca to her. After so pleasantries, she began to say that Audrey’s top position in the tipping charts was not genuine.
She claid that Audrey’s tipping amount was several tis that of the second place and pointed out that the top spot belonged to a small account that only followed Audrey’s comic and only tipped it, suspecting Audrey of creating a fake account to boost her own ranks.
Crystal did not know how close Vanessa was with Audrey and assud their relationship stemd from brief contact at a website gathering.
Vanessa had known Crystal for years, with both starting as authors around the sa ti. Crystal initiated contact, often probing Vanessa for her data.
From then on, Vanessa felt Crystal wasn’t simple.
She later discovered that Crystal acted as a friend but deliberately spread distorted rumors behind your back.
Vanessa knew what kind of person Crystal was but never exposed her.
So, when Crystal said Audrey’s data was fake, Vanessa just listened and let it pass.
A bit of logical analysis would reveal that Audrey had no need to go to such efforts.
Even without the so-called "small account," Audrey’s tips securely held first place, so there was no need for her to spend a lot of money boosting herself.
Besides, she knew Audrey wasn’t that kind of person, so she didn’t take Crystal’s words seriously.
After a cigarette break, Miles returned.
Vanessa put away her phone and glanced at the man still sitting next to her.
Then she looked at the expressionless Miles walking over.
Without another word, he stood in front of the man, speaking not so nicely, "Get up, this is my seat."
The man looked up at him, unimpressed, and said, "Is your na written on it?"
Miles’s expression grew more displeased, his voice lower, "Get lost."
The man was proud; if Miles had spoken nicely, he might have yielded, but given Miles’s attitude, anyone would be discontent: "Can’t you speak properly? Is the hospital owned by your family? I won’t budge, what then?"
Without further words, Miles swung his fist towards the man’s face.
The surrounding people were suddenly caught off guard, not knowing what happened.
The man, eyes reddened with fury, might have had a toothache already, and Miles happened to hit the sore spot, so speaking was difficult, "He hit ! This guy’s outrageous! I’m calling the cops, I want to report this!"
Seeing this, Vanessa hurriedly rose to apologize, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry, he..."
Before she could finish, Miles yanked her aside.
The man, seeing the nacing Miles approaching, stood up, backing away while shakily calling the police with his phone.
Seeing Miles might still want to strike, Vanessa hurriedly hugged him from behind, her voice anxious, "This is a hospital, not your ho! Can’t you restrain yourself a bit?"
