Vanessa Sterling knew that what was on the computer must never be seen by him, so when Miles Sterling demanded it, she instinctively stepped back half a step, tightly clutching the computer, without obediently handing it over to him.

Miles Sterling was very displeased with her actions, and he didn’t like the feeling that she was keeping secrets from him.

He directly reached out and snatched the computer from Vanessa’s hands, walked to the coffee table in the living room, and slamd it heavily onto the table. He opened the laptop cover, and when the page prompted for a password, Miles looked at her with displeasure: "When did you set it?"

Vanessa hesitated as she walked over and quietly replied, "It’s been quite a while, I can’t rember."

Miles wasn’t particularly concerned with this now and coldly said, "Enter the password."

Vanessa stood to the side, making no move.

Miles glared at her impatiently, his face still showing his anger, but Vanessa still plucked up the courage to say, "This is my personal belonging..."

"What exactly is inside that you’re afraid I’ll see?!"

Vanessa frowned, her tone carrying a hint of hidden sarcasm: "Don’t you already know what’s inside? This isn’t the first ti you’ve looked at my computer."

Miles asked her pressingly, "Then what are you afraid of? What are you hiding from?! Open it."

Vanessa remained motionless. Since she confronted him and turned herself in at the police station last ti, she seed much more stubborn.

And since then, he also rarely lost his temper with her.

"It seems I’ve been too lenient with you recently." Miles stood up, and although Vanessa had a bit of resistance, her fear of him emanated from deep within her heart.

Now, she could only hope that Jasmine Lucas would hear the situation from the bug they planted and co over to help her.

But she also didn’t want that to happen, because if Jasmine showed up now and Miles discovered she sought help, then the plan could no longer proceed smoothly.

Jasmine hadn’t anticipated Miles’s return, so she didn’t conduct real-ti surveillance on Vanessa’s phone and had not yet reached out to confirm the situation with her.

Miles stood up, looking down at Vanessa: "Since there’s nothing you can’t let people see, why’s entering a password so hard?!"

Vanessa stepped back half a step, saying, "I just don’t like your behavior."

It was a current excuse but also sothing she had held back and wanted to say for a long ti.

Hearing this, Miles’s eyes slightly narrowed.

Vanessa rarely dared to speak this way; at least in recent years, he hadn’t heard her say such bold words.

Miles paused for a mont, his tone slightly improved, speaking to her with so courtesy, "Open it, last chance, and I won’t interfere in your matters again."

After a few seconds of stalemate, Miles’s brow furrowed again: "Don’t test my patience."

Vanessa knew that once he opened the computer, he would definitely look at all her social software and docunts, and he would definitely find the manuscript she wrote.

And she was aware of Miles’s stubbornness; the more she refused, the more curious he beca.

She thought, could she contact Jasmine in secret while Miles was going through the files and have her publish the news to advance all the plans...

"Vanessa, when I give you a chance, you’d better not disregard it!"

Torn by her thoughts, Vanessa silently crouched by the side of the table, turned the computer toward herself, entered the password, then handed it to Miles.

Miles sat on the sofa, going through the contents of the computer.

Vanessa stood nearby, turned, and walked toward the room: "Take your ti, I’ll co out to get it later."

She initially intended to go to the room to call Jasmine as soon as possible to explain the current situation.

But Miles suddenly called out to her: "Co back."

Vanessa’s steps halted.

Miles motioned with his chin to the spot where she had just been standing, ordering, "Stand here, did I say you could go?"

Vanessa began to feel anxious, using the excuse, "I need to go to the bathroom."

Seeing her eagerness to leave only aroused Miles’s suspicion, as he asked again, "What exactly are you trying to do behind my back?"

Vanessa: "Can’t I go to the bathroom?"

Miles: "Where did you get the nerve to talk to like this?"

Vanessa: "Then what do you want to do?"

Miles, dissatisfied with her attitude, raised his voice, slightly losing control: "Co back! Stand here!!"

Perhaps he wasn’t truly suspicious of Vanessa’s anxious departure for any particular purpose; he simply disliked it when his words were defied.

Vanessa took a deep breath, stayed in place, not heading toward the room, nor returning to her previous spot.

Miles restrained his temper, withdrew his gaze, and continued scrolling through her computer.

Vanessa knew she didn’t have much ti to linger there. She directly took out her phone, trying her best to nonchalantly flip through as if doing so out of boredom.

She decided to send a ssage, hoping to send it out just as Miles realized, then wait for Jasmine’s arrangents.

However, just as she took out her phone and was about to open the ssaging page, Miles got up and walked over.

He glanced at her phone; the screen was still on the wallpaper page, so Miles reached out, took the phone from her, and asked, "While I was gone, were you with that kid Heath Holloway?"

Vanessa beca increasingly flustered, feeling that her only lifeline had also been intercepted by Miles. She tried to keep her voice steady, to prevent him from catching on: "I don’t know him."

Skeptical, Miles imdiately began checking through her phone, inspecting all the chat applications.

Vanessa anticipated this behavior and had deleted all sensitive chats with Jasmine and Audrey Sutton beforehand.

Having found nothing unusual, Miles threw the phone onto the sofa, turned back to continue looking at the computer.

Vanessa’s eyes were fixated on the phone on the sofa; any slight movent from her would draw Miles’s attention.

All she could do now was hope that Jasmine could listen in on the situation here.

But unfortunately... as ti passed, there was no movent.

She seed to already feel that her own storm was about to arrive soon...

Miles must have found that manuscript; his fingers no longer moved the touchpad frequently. His pupils shifted back and forth, scanning through the computer’s contents.

His face gradually darkened...

"February 16, written today?" He spoke softly to himself.

Though it seed like a gentle inquiry, it sent a stiff chill throughout Vanessa’s body.

Miles raised his head, looking at her, his chest heaving with rage: "What are you trying to do? Hmm? Expose my misdeeds? Is this all you rember of ?!"

The more he spoke, the angrier he beca, standing and shouting at Vanessa: "When you were about to starve to death on the street, it was I who took you ho and raised you. Your life is sothing I gave you! Do you really want to kill ?!"
