Miles Sterling has always had a poor appetite. At the dinner table, he barely took a few bites. By the ti they got up from the table, the dishes looked as if they hadn’t been touched.
Gwen Grant didn’t nag Miles Sterling to eat more. Instead, she also put down her utensils and asked the servant to clean up the dining room.
When they walked out of the dining room, they saw Miles Sterling standing on the balcony, looking out at the rainy night.
Gwen glanced over but did not follow him. Instead, she went upstairs to Miles Sterling’s room to fetch a puzzle.
She placed the puzzle on the living room carpet and called out to Miles Sterling, "Miles, the wind is strong outside. Why don’t we work on the puzzle inside?"
Miles Sterling heard her and turned to look at Gwen for a mont.
Although he wasn’t in the mood for a puzzle at that mont, he thought it might help calm his restless mind sowhat.
So Miles Sterling entered the room, saying, "Okay, I’ll just go to the bathroom first."
Gwen sat on the carpet, nodded, and smiled obediently. "Alright, be careful."
She poured all the puzzle pieces from the box, staring at the scattered pieces. Just looking at them made her feel sowhat ntally exhausted.
She didn’t quite understand why Miles Sterling was suddenly interested in these puzzles, but since it was his interest, she patiently started to study them.
When Miles Sterling ca out of the bathroom, he saw Gwen sitting on the carpet with her back to him, surrounded by puzzle pieces scattered everywhere...
Suddenly, Miles Sterling felt sothing like a shadow flitting through his mind. With the headache, fragnted images appeared in his brain.
By the bay window of a high building, there was a frail girl’s back, wearing a white dress, her hair let down, with countless puzzle pieces scattered around her...
It was as if soone had opened the door. The girl seed startled and turned her head towards the door...
"Miles, are you okay?"
Gwen’s voice interrupted the images in Miles Sterling’s head, just when he felt he was about to see the girl’s face...
Gwen hurriedly got up to support Miles Sterling, asking with concern, "Are you feeling unwell sowhere?"
Miles Sterling frowned and shook his head. "It’s nothing. I’m just a bit tired. I want to go back to my room to rest. We can work on it another day."
With that, Miles Sterling leaned against the wall and started to walk upstairs.
Gwen watched thoughtfully as Miles Sterling walked away, then turned back to the living room to prepare his dication as usual.
She poured a glass of water but then returned to add two more pills, letting them dissolve in the water. Once the dication had mostly dissolved, she took the water up to Miles Sterling’s room.
"Miles, is your headache back? Take the dication. You’ll feel better after a nap."
Miles Sterling knew that taking that dication indeed significantly relieved the headaches.
So he took the pills Gwen handed him without suspicion, swallowing them with a sip of water.
Gwen took back the glass and said gently, "Have a good rest. If you need anything, you can text ."
Miles Sterling nodded, laid down on the bed, and switched off the bedside lamp, indicating that he was ready to sleep.
Gwen didn’t linger any longer and left the room with the glass.
After he heard the door close, Miles Sterling opened his eyes.
He continued to think about those fragnted images in his mind, the scene stopping at the mont when the girl turned her head. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t rember what happened next.
Who was the girl that kept appearing in his mind?
