Yuying, usually sharp-tongued, remained silent this ti. The Heart-clearing Jade was a gift from her grandfather for her recent birthday and was extrely precious to her. Though grateful that Hanyan had recovered it for her, her close relationship with Mu Ze and her deep admiration for her mature young cousin kept her from thanking Hanyan, fearing it would embarrass him.
"Oh no, where is my deed, where did my deed go?" Suddenly, the middle-aged man who had just slandered Hanyan cried out in alarm, frantically searching his chest with both hands.
"What deed?" soone asked, puzzled.
"The deed to the Fan Family Inn, I sold my ancestral lands and house to buy it," the middle-aged man replied, his face turning pale. After searching fruitlessly, he began to jump up and down on the spot to see if it had accidentally slipped inside his clothes. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, he was unable to find it.
"Could it have been stolen by that female thief just now?" soone speculated.
"Impossible, I checked it after the female thief left; it was definitely on ," the middle-aged man said, his face turning ashen with despair.
"It was stolen by a petty thief just now; I saw it," Hanyan interjected indifferently.
"What, when was it stolen?" the middle-aged man asked, jumping up like a drowning man grasping for a straw, looking desperately at Hanyan.
"It was when you were accusing of encouraging arrogance and causing harm to more people," Hanyan stroked his chin, recalling the event.
"Why didn’t you warn ?" the middle-aged man demanded, both anxious and angry.
"You said it yourself—losing everything didn’t matter to you. If you don’t care, why should I bother? What’s the point if I’m just filled to the brim with nothing to do?" Hanyan replied with a roll of his eyes.
"You... you..." the middle-aged man, pointing at Hanyan, was speechless. Finally, his legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground, his face filled with despair and regret.
Such folly, utter folly! Why would you needlessly slander others? A simple reminder could have averted all this trouble. Now, because of your groundless accusations, you’ve lost everything. The middle-aged man wanted to cry but no tears ca, overwheld with regret and even contemplating ending it all.
"Serves you right, who asked you not to speak kindly; now see how you’ve ended up." Watching this scene unfold, Yuying felt quite pleased, thinking to herself in satisfaction. For a young girl, she distinguished clearly between gratitude and grudges.
The onlookers shook their heads in agreent, feeling quite the sa as Yuying; they thought the man deserved his misfortune for relentlessly disparaging others. But now, after his harsh words, he couldn’t even bla Hanyan.
Mu Ze and Xitian exchanged glances, sharing a knowing look: Big Playboy Mu truly believed in paying back in kind. He could have easily given a warning, but chose not to, just because he didn’t like what was said. That deed was the middle-aged man’s entire livelihood, and its loss likely spelled ruin for him.
They resolved then and there that once this mission was over, they would avoid Hanyan as much as possible, staying as far away as they could. Otherwise, falling into his hands might an an unknown fate.
