Now reading: Chapter 84: Playing house as children from Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return, a Romance novel by White Day.

He had disliked Han Yan ever since they were children, where a eting never passed without him hurling a few cold taunts and sarcastic comnts. However, in recent tis, Han Yan had brought him too many shocks and he was growing more and more puzzled.

This Han Yan, who was clearly a useless good-for-nothing, how could his strength improve so rapidly? Not just his strength, it seed like his entire deanor had changed. There must be so secret behind it!

If I could unravel this secret, with my talents, how much benefit would I gain?

It was precisely because of such thoughts that Mu Cheng stopped in his tracks, deliberately attempting to ingratiate himself with Han Yan.

Had it been in the past, even if Mu Cheng’s smile shone brightly, Han Yan wouldn’t have shown him any warmth, but now things were different. Considering her life experience was now double that of others, why would she bother with trivialities between children, as her past conflicts with Mu Cheng seed as insignificant as child’s play.

Seeing Mu Cheng making overtures of friendship, Han Yan also nodded with a faint smile. Regardless of whether his intentions were genuine, there’s a saying that one shouldn’t strike a smiling face, so naturally, Han Yan wouldn’t quibble with a child who showed a smiling face.

"Early in the morning, Brother Han Yan, where are you planning to go?" Mu Cheng started to make small talk, his gaze passing suspiciously over Mu Nan’s face. Wasn’t this guy supposed to owe ten thousand taels in gambling debts? Why did he look as if he had been injected with chicken blood, so excited he could barely contain himself?

Little did he know, Mu Nan’s excitent was due to his eagerness to settle his gambling debts.

"I’m going for a stroll in the marketplace. Lao Liu is quite familiar with it, so I called him to co along. Do you want to join us?" Han Yan asked.

Realizing how her parents and grandfather cared for her, her outlook on life naturally differed from her previous life, and she ca to value familial bonds more. She didn’t wish to beco true enemies with her kin, preferring to smooth things over if possible. Furthermore, one of the main reasons the Mu Family remained unshaken was their unity against external threats, setting aside internal competition when facing a common foe. This was also a major reason why Han Yan didn’t want to hold any real grudges with Mu Cheng.

"Oh, I still have so things to take care of, I won’t be going," said Mu Cheng.

"Alright then, we’ll be off," Han Yan said, knowing that Mu Nan did not want too many people getting a hold of his vulnerabilities, and she didn’t press the matter.

Mu Cheng watched them leave. Once Han Yan and Mu Nan’s group had gone far enough, his eyes darted around and he quietly followed them.

Han Yan might act the part of a playboy, but he wasn’t actually foolish. How could he possibly reveal the secret behind his newfound strength in plain sight? This matter required covert investigation.

Walking north from outside the City Lord’s Mansion for a couple of miles, then through a few narrow alleys, they arrived at the marketplace of Heishi City.

The marketplace of Heishi City was not singular; so specialized in selling vegetables, fruits, and grains, while others specialized in selling cattle, sheep, mules, horses, and farming implents. The marketplace they visited was dedicated to selling items related to cultivation.

It was no longer early, yet the marketplace was quiet. Apart from the rhythmic bangs resonating from the forge at the back of the weapon shop, only the occasional small talk of the stall vendors broke the silence.

Heishi City was no tropolis, nothing grand, and the strength of its cultivators was generally not high, resulting in a low demand for cultivation resources.

Zirong and Huayue followed behind Han Yan, occasionally glancing at the various herbs, jades, and beast bones laid out on the roadside stalls, along with a few sparse shops displaying so-called Divine Weapons and secret techniques at their entrances to attract attention.
