Kas also found this legislation ridiculous, “Steal a car, and you’ll be locked up for half a month, but for premarital pregnancy, the man gets one year and the woman half a year.”
Tan Rou felt her lips twitch as she asked, “Does your King think there are too many people in your country?” Then she thought for a moment. J did indeed have a large population and abundant labor force, and no issue with an aging populace, so perhaps they didn’t encourage childbirth.
But still, laws that imprison people for premarital pregnancy were too severe, and it wasn’t just a day or two in jail—it was six months to a year. After a year, the prisoners would be released with their jobs gone, love lost, and no children either.
“Ridiculous, these laws are utterly ridiculous!” That was the only way Tan Rou could describe them.
Kas continued, “The King dislikes us being together, so I planned to take Samiyi and leave. We’d go live in another country, where I’d still be a gardener, she’d wait at home for my return. We’d also have a lovely child who would go to school there, learn new things. But now, all that has bee a fantasy.”
“Then just take your child and leave by yourself,” Tan Rou suggested, “Once you’re settled abroad, figure out a way to bring Samiyi out. Whether you have to scale walls or burrow underground, just bring her out and then quickly leave J—don’t stay there any longer.”
“No, I can’t abandon Samiyi alone!” Kas rejected Tan Rou’s suggestion, “If the King disapproves of our marriage, I will wait here until the day Samiyi can leave the palace.”
Tan Rou gave Kas a thumbs up, “You’ll make a good husband!” But she didn’t see him as a good father—don’t you plan to send your child to school?
