Countless Pale Pilgrimages gathered together, their branches emitting a pure and icy silver glow, appearing from afar like a shimring silver ocean in the dark underground city, exhibiting a mysterious yet sacred beauty.
However, beneath this breathtaking beauty, lies deadly danger.
At the edge of the silver forest, the corpses of nurous demons were piled like mountains, with occasionally one or two Pale Pilgrimages that had also lost their vitality, broken and fallen.
"It’s like a natural barrier..." Salian gazed at the scene before him and murmured in awe.
"It indeed is a barrier," Ilo behind him calmly explained, "This is a defense chanism of the Divine Wood itself, preventing anything from approaching its center."
"They seem... not to be infected?" Salian observed that all the small trees’ trunks remained a silvery white, not showing the typical dark red veins of "Frenzy" infection.
But Ilo slowly shook his head, lifting his hand to point at a small tree long broken and half-buried among the remains.
On one of its withered branches, those dark red veins were prominently visible!
"It’s not that they can’t be infected, but those polluted individuals would be cleared away by themselves."
"We won’t have to... forcibly eliminate them, right?" Salian couldn’t help but ask.
"Certainly not," the Captain of the Guard, Eco, interjected, "Chopping them all down, then leaving my Forest Patrol to stand guard here day and night?"
Then, under his command, well-trained Elf Rangers quickly split into several small groups.
They quietly approached from different side directions, cautiously purifying the toxic mist in the air while provoking with arrows or disruptive magic.
Soon, so of the Pale Pilgrimages were attracted by these actions, leaving the silver collective and heading toward the source of harassnt.
Gradually, the silver forest blocking their way thinned out.
However, when only a thin layer remained, no matter how the Rangers increased their provocations, the remaining small trees would pursue only a short distance before decisively turning back, stubbornly guarding that final boundary, unwilling to stray far.
"What now? Should we force our way through?" Salian asked.
Ilo, however, looked at the final line of defense, raising his magic staff: "Unavoidable sacrifices... are still within an acceptable range."
The Captain of the Guard, Eco, didn’t hesitate, drawing two Elf Scimitars from his back with a "swing," the blades shimred with a cold gleam in the dim light.
The remaining Pale Pilgrimages, despite exhausting all efforts to release toxic mist and waving their roots in resistance, couldn’t withstand the combined assault of the powerful Ilo and Eco.
It wasn’t long before they turned into charred fragnts and broken remains under the fierce slashing and powerful magical impact.
After clearing a path, Ilo didn’t lead everyone deeper. He left a few mages on the periphery to coordinate, taking only his three most capable students with Eco to step toward the deepest part.
The darkness gradually faded, and the surroundings beca progressively brighter.
Eventually, a pure light beam fell directly from above, causing Salian, who had long adapted to the dim environnt, to squint his eyes instinctively.
They reached the central bottom of this massive underground spiral structure.
However, in the center of this vast muddy ground, there was only an extrely small, not even tree-like seedling growing!
"Teacher, is it really..." Salian asked uncertainly.
And Ilo confird his guess: "That is the Divine Wood."
Another accompanying mage couldn’t help but smack his lips: "I thought... it would be enormous."
Eco chuckled at this: "I thought the sa when I first heard about it years ago."
Though seeing the Divine Wood in person for the first ti, as the Captain of the Guard, he had long read about it in various records.
Ilo revealed more: "The Divine Wood is indeed enormous, what you see is but a minuscule part of it."
"Is the rest... all underground?"
While speculating, Salian subconsciously deployed a Space Reconnaissance Magic Ball, attempting to probe the form of the Divine Wood beneath the ground.
However, the scene in the magic ball showed a chaotic spatial distortion, all images appeared forcibly compressed and chaotic, a situation Salian encountered for the first ti!
He was about to move to check for possible interference when Puki atop his head suddenly kicked him with two short mycelium legs.
Having gained considerable "sitting" experience, Salian imdiately understood it was a warning from Puki to stop.
