How could I have known so much at that ti?
I was still foolishly thinking it was my wife who didn’t want to live with , so she chose to leave. But the truth wasn’t like that at all. She just couldn’t stand my sarcastic remarks over and over again, couldn’t stand over and over again, so she chose to leave. Everything I did, all the things I did were so terribly wrong.
I was afraid every single thing I did would hurt her, and in the end, I deeply hurt her!
No one ever knew how desperate she felt at that mont, how lonely she must have been when she left the country for abroad on her own. I never considered things from her perspective, because I was selfish, just a photo of her, just choosing to abandon her for my own sake. I didn’t know what kind of mindset I had back then to make such decisions and hurt her like that. Shanghai, there’s only pain deep in my heart, no one ever understood, no one ever knew."
"And then?"
"Later...
I drank completely out of control at ho, and when I woke up it was the third day already.
In the morning, I groggily opened my eyes, only feeling dizzy. I staggered up and realized I was lying on a chair with an extra blanket over . At the ti, I thought it was Xia Jing who ca to my house to cover with a blanket. I picked up the blanket that fell on the ground and tossed it back on the chair, then rushed downstairs, calling Xia Jing’s na as I ran. When I got downstairs, my father was having breakfast, and upon hearing my noise coming downstairs, my father thought there was an earthquake.
I ran downstairs and looked around, but I didn’t see Xia Jing’s figure. I stared blankly at my father who was eating breakfast and gazing idly at . I walked over step by step and said to Old Master Zhang, "Dad, what’s wrong? Why are you looking at like that?"
Old Master Zhang smiled at and said, "You finally decided to wake up?"
I didn’t quite understand what Old Master Zhang said. I asked again, "Dad, what do you an by that? I just got drunk and slept for a day, didn’t I?"
Old Master Zhang looked at his silly son and felt speechless.
"Are you sure you only slept for one day?" Old Master Zhang asked.
Upon hearing my father say that, I thought, "Did I sleep for more than one day? Did I sleep for two days?"
Old Master Zhang looked at his dazed son and slowly said, "You slept for three days. Didn’t you really know?"
"I didn’t know!"
Old Master Zhang looked at half-smiling, occasionally shaking his head. I looked at my father’s expression and imdiately said, "I really didn’t know!"
"You really didn’t know?" Old Master Zhang asked back.
"Dad, can’t you trust a bit more? I really didn’t know I slept for three days. I only rember that day I went to find Xia Jing, but found her ho empty. Later, I learned from Xia Jing’s landlord that she went abroad a few days ago, then I went to the lakeside, and after that, I ca ho to drink and eventually fell asleep. That’s all I know."
After I finished speaking, I looked at my father, Old Master Zhang seed to understand a little bit and nodded, then shook his head. Seeing my father’s expression, I felt exhausted and asked, "Dad, did you understand or not?"
"Partly understood, partly not." Old Master Zhang answered decisively without any embarrassnt, facing his son’s question.
Upon hearing my father’s response, I didn’t even know how to talk to him.
Old Master Zhang saw his son being speechless by his words. At that mont, my father found it amusing. I said to Old Master Zhang, "Dad, I want to ask you a question."
Old Master Zhang, upon hearing my words, assud I must have discovered sothing and was waiting for to ask that particular question. As long as I asked that question, he would reveal everything to .
"Alright, go ahead." Old Master Zhang looked at expectantly. But my question disappointed him.
"I heard from Xia Jing’s landlord that on the day she left, she went to the company. Is this true?"
