The sky was gradually getting brighter. Xia Jing was awoken by the newly-risen sun, red as fire, shining on her eyes. She slowly opened her eyes and rubbed them with her hands. Looking at the sun outside, she felt her mood lift. She cheerfully tidied up a bit, preparing to go out for a al, but Zhang Zhentian had barely slept in the latter half of the night and was dead tired.
Xia Jing walked for half the day on the road and saw a restaurant. She went in and ordered a few small dishes from the waiter. Just as the waiter brought the dishes to the table, the phone at the service counter rang.
"Hello, how can I help you?" the waiter answered the phone and asked.
"Please make a few small dishes and bring them up."
"Sure, may I know your na, sir?" the waiter asked politely.
"Zhang Zhentian."
"Zhang Zhentian, is that correct?" the waiter repeated.
When Xia Jing heard the waiter say the na Zhang Zhentian, the chopsticks she was holding fell to the ground without her even noticing. Xia Jing called the waiter over and asked, "I’m sorry, did you just ntion a gentleman?"
"Yes, is there anything you need?"
"No, thank you!" Xia Jing said and let the waiter go. She took money out from her bag, placed it on the table, and left without eating. She was afraid of seeing Zhang Zhentian, so she chose to avoid him.
"Child, I know what you want to say. You want to tell mom that escaping is the greatest mistake in the world; no matter what happens, you shouldn’t have an escapist ntality. But do you know? So things can’t be solved by escaping. I once thought about every path I’ve walked, what they were like. But now I find that if I hadn’t chosen to escape back then, I might have been trampled underfoot my whole life, never able to turn things around. Who could imagine my choices and policies, the pain deep in my heart? Don’t I want to live happily? Do I have to suffer blow after blow, injury after injury, while being powerless?"
Zhang Yichen faced his mother’s questioning and was left speechless. He knew the kind of pain his mother had once endured, a pain he might never experience in his lifeti. But the harm it caused him, he also didn’t know how to describe it. It was a kind of pain for him too; he never gave up on everything.
Deep down in his heart, no matter what he did, regardless of whether he truly wished to return to this family, she was always his mother. The mont he truly chose to forgive her, he let go of all past grievances and wouldn’t pursue them anymore. But why was she never willing to truly stay with this family, offering companionship and care to the family mbers?
"Child, did it never occur to you that after your mother returned to this family, she might choose to escape again? Actually, all she wanted was the simplest freedom. When she said she never wanted to see again for the rest of her life, in that mont, I felt like I had the weight of a thousand pounds pressing on my heart.
I had never before felt as panicked as at that mont. I feared her leaving. How impetuous and passionately in love I was at that ti, only I knew. Even when everyone around advised to give up, saying she wasn’t worth it, I never wavered. In my world, as long as I felt she earnestly wanted to be with , I wouldn’t care what she once beca or the life she had led. As long as she was with , I would give up the whole world for him."
Zhang Yichen laughed mockingly. Hearing his father say this made him think it was entirely true. Hadn’t he given up the whole world for his mother? Didn’t he choose to give up the entire family for his mother? Even walking away from his own family, what else couldn’t he give up?
Zhang Zhentian felt helpless about Xia Jing’s departure. He really couldn’t understand Xia Jing more and more. Any disagreent could lead to an argunt, if sothing was a little off, Xia Jing would leave him, one wrong word and Xia Jing would get upset...
