"You have to believe that your mother is a decisive person. She has always been firm in her decisions, and once she makes up her mind, she never changes her thoughts or opinions, regardless of ti or place. Deep down, she believes that everything she does is right. She won’t consider the paths others have walked; she only thinks about her own life and the lives of others. Even if it brings her great setbacks and harm, she wouldn’t hesitate. That’s how decisive she is—this is your mother."
After leaving Xia Jing, Zhang Zhentian didn’t go straight ho but sneaked away to drink. Zhang Zhentian drank one glass after another. He finished one bottle after another, as if he couldn’t get drunk no matter how much he drank. He felt so miserable inside; he was angry but also helpless. When Xia Jing said those words, he was so angry that he wanted to hit her, but in the end, he only scolded her and didn’t lay hands on her. He couldn’t bear it. Even though he knew many tis Xia Jing was being unreasonable or couldn’t let go of her pride, he still loved her dearly and couldn’t stand seeing her suffer even a little grievance. However, sotis he couldn’t hold back anymore and would lose his temper with her. Every ti after he lost his temper, he regretted it imnsely inside.
Zhang Zhentian continued drinking, thinking to himself: Xia Jing, ah Xia Jing, how on earth do you want to treat you? I can’t bear to hit you, yet even when I compromise everywhere, you just don’t know to hold back...
Zhang Zhentian still hadn’t returned ho by late night. Old Master Zhang was getting anxious waiting at ho. In the morning, when he had Aunt Xu call Zhang Zhentian to get up for breakfast, Aunt Xu said Zhang Zhentian wasn’t ho. At that ti, Old Master Zhang thought Zhang Zhentian might have gone out to handle so affairs, so he hadn’t called to ask. But now it was almost midnight and Zhang Zhentian still hadn’t returned, so Old Master Zhang asked Aunt Xu to call him. However, Zhang Zhentian’s phone was off, making Old Master Zhang feel even more uneasy. He quickly asked Aunt Xu to call Xia Jing, hoping to ask if she knew where Zhang Zhentian was.
Knock knock knock... Xia Jing’s phone started ringing.
"Hello, who is this?" Xia Jing answered the phone.
"It’s , Aunt Xu," Aunt Xu gently replied to Xia Jing.
"Oh, it’s Aunt Xu. Is there sothing you need from this late?" Xia Jing politely asked Aunt Xu.
Aunt Xu didn’t speak but looked up at Old Master Zhang, who took the phone from Aunt Xu’s hand. He gestured for Aunt Xu to go ahead with her tasks, understanding Old Master Zhang’s intention, so she continued to her work.
"Hello, Xia Jing, it’s Uncle. How have you been lately?" Instead of directly asking if she was with Zhang Zhentian, Old Master Zhang first inquired about Xia Jing’s well-being, which touched Xia Jing deeply.
"Uncle, thank you for your concern. I’ve been well lately. How about you?" Xia Jing held back her tears as she replied to Old Master Zhang.
"I’ve been doing well. Take good care of yourself."
"I will, Uncle. Thank you."
Old Master Zhang didn’t quite understand why Xia Jing suddenly thanked him, so he asked, "Thank for what?"
"Uncle, thank you for calling tonight, not just to ask about my argunt with Zhentian today. Thank you for your continued concern," Xia Jing explained the reason for her gratitude to Old Master Zhang.
Old Master Zhang felt even more puzzled upon hearing this. "Xia Jing, what do you an? Did you argue with Zhentian today?"
"Yes, Uncle, didn’t Zhentian tell you?" Xia Jing was a bit curious as to why Old Master Zhang didn’t know about it.
"So Zhentian isn’t with you then?" Old Master Zhang asked in return instead of answering.
Xia Jing was also confused by what Old Master Zhang said, so she replied, "Uncle, how could Zhentian be here with ? After today’s argunt, he left, and it’s been about ten hours since he left here. Hasn’t he gone ho?"
"Yes, when he went out this morning, I wasn’t even up yet. By the ti I asked Aunt Xu to call him for breakfast, he was already gone. I thought he had gone to handle so work, but he still hasn’t returned. So, I called, hoping you might know if Zhentian was with you!"
