The two of them had easily agreed in the hospital on what they were preparing to do.

The next morning, Ran Zhihan asked Zhang Yichen to rest for a while in the hospital, while she herself was going to find Xia Jing and have a serious talk.

Ran Zhihan arrived at Xia Jing’s doorstep, knocked gently, and walked in. She didn’t say anything, simply delivering a piece of incredibly good news to Xia Jing.

"Why have you co? Didn’t I tell you not to show up in front of again? Why don’t you ever listen?" Xia Jing spoke irritably, truly not wanting to see Ran Zhihan at her door again.

"Auntie, I’m here today to discuss two things with you," Ran Zhihan said.

"You little liar, there can’t be anything good if you’re looking for . Don’t say anything else, just leave quickly. Seeing you here just makes us both unhappy. Don’t co to my house again in the future, because every ti you co, it reminds that my son is still lying in the hospital, not yet awakened..."

"Auntie, the first thing is I have to tell you an incredible piece of good news, which is—Yichen has woken up!" Ran Zhihan announced.

Xia Jing could hardly believe it; had she heard wrong? Why was the girl in front of her telling her that her son had awoken?

"Don’t be here making jokes with . The doctors have already said that my son has passed the best timing for recovery, how could he possibly wake up? He must still be lying in the hospital bed, unable to move, right?"

"Auntie, your son really has woken up, he’s resting in the hospital bed right now. He insisted on coming to see you, but I told him to rest a bit more, and that you would have ti to see him in a few days!"

"It’s wonderful, truly wonderful!" Xia Jing exclaid, her eyes brimming with tears of relief. "My son has finally awoken. Heaven has truly been kind to . If he had remained asleep on that hospital bed for the rest of his life... what aning would my own life hold? If my son were gone, I would have no reason to go on living in this world..."

"Oh, please don’t say such things," Ran Zhihan implored gently. "There’s sothing I want to discuss with you today, and I hope you won’t dodge the conversation. Can we talk openly and calmly?

"Rest assured, today is a really good day," Xia Jing replied with a broad smile that hadn’t graced her face in ages. "Thank you for sharing such wonderful news with . Thank you for bringing my son back to consciousness. Whatever you want to talk about, I’m willing to listen. I won’t evade the issue." The joy of learning that her son had awakened from a critical condition filled her with an indescribable happiness. To a mother, nothing mattered more than seeing her child recover from the brink; all other challenges paled in comparison. She cared only about her son’s safety.

"Auntie," Ran Zhihan began tentatively, "I’ve heard from Yichen that you and Uncle have divorced. Can you tell what really happened? Did you choose to give up on Uncle?"

"I knew you were going to ask about that," Xia Jing sighed with a heavy heart. "Did my son send you to talk to , in hopes you might persuade ? He sure worries a lot..."

"Auntie, when it’s convenient, could you please tell why exactly you and Uncle divorced? It’s a very important matter for your son," Ran Zhihan urged. "He doesn’t want his parents to separate in their middle age. He’s already missed out on over a decade of parental love. If it was just about interests between the two of you, then he might never truly feel loved by either of you again. Perhaps you’ll think I’m being selfish, but I sincerely wish for your happiness. I believe any child would never want their parents to divorce. It’s simply too cruel. I can’t bear to watch the man I love suffer daily, constantly wracking his brain over this, wanting reconciliation yet finding no solution. I felt compelled to speak with you, heart to heart."

"The reason his father and I divorced is actually due to a lie—a lie that ant little to , but to his father, it was an unforgivable deceit. He couldn’t accept it, so he chose divorce," Xia Jing confided in Ran Zhihan. "I can see that you truly love my son. You’re prepared to risk everything for him, even if it ans facing my wrath. Your dedication touches deeply. It’s enough for a mother like to know that her son has a woman who loves him unconditionally. I don’t covet riches or honors for him; having a woman who sincerely cherishes him is all that matters. However, child, the truth is that his father and I might truly be beyond reconciling. Three years ago, his father and I made a bet: I would hide, and if he found within three years, we would stay together forever. But three years passed, and he didn’t find . You know, in the second year, he ca so close, wandering around near where I was staying. Yet, he never ca forward and thus, missed his chance to live with . It seems like fate decreed that we shouldn’t continue our lives together, and yet I’ve been unable to let go of him all these years!"

"Auntie, it’s clear to that you and Uncle truly loved each other," Ran Zhihan countered. "Back when you were young, you defied everything just to be with each other. Now that you have achieved your goals, why give up so easily? Is that truly fair? Not just for your son, but I too can’t stand to see you both hurt like this. You could still have a life together, but to forfeit it over a rash bet seems such a waste. Could Uncle really bear to cast you aside?"

"If he couldn’t bear to cast aside, he wouldn’t have said the word ’divorce’!" Xia Jing retorted sharply.

"Auntie," Ran Zhihan pressed, "I think you haven’t fully understood. Considering Uncle’s standpoint at the ti, he was indeed angry and it was in his anger that he spoke of divorce. How can you take such words to heart? Taking angry words seriously only brings harm to yourself. You have shared over a decade of married life, a bond surely unbreakable. Please, don’t let go of years of marital devotion over a thoughtless lie or an impulsive word..."
