Zhang Zhentian knew he had beco a person with nowhere to turn; no matter where he went, no one was willing to help him. He had done too many wrongs, and there was not a single person willing to sincerely help him even once. The wrongs he had committed had deeply hurt everyone. Why bother asking others for help? It would be better to plead with himself; perhaps a miracle might happen to him one day.
When everyone repeatedly refused Zhang Zhentian’s requests, their hearts ached. No one had imagined that a family once so close could end up with such a fate. Nobody could predict your next move or what you would end up losing. Old Master Zhang saw his son’s dispirited appearance and felt imnse pain in his heart. He knew if he helped his son once more, the outco might indeed be different, but he still chose to refuse. Helping him would only encourage his lawlessness and ungratefulness. Such actions would ultimately harm his son, not help, so he resolutely refused his son’s plea.

Finally, Zhentian begged in front of Ran Zhihan.

Sothing so simple, you always make it so complicated. The more complicated matters beco, the worse the situation will get. If you helped quietly, it would be a better outco for everyone. Why are you unwilling to do that?"

If I take this step, he might lose his temper and never speak to again. I know I’m being very selfish by doing this, but who isn’t selfish for the sake of their own family? If soone isn’t selfish for their family, then it only shows they don’t care about their family, right? You should understand your son’s character even better than I do. No one can change the decisions he makes, and no one dares to act against his wishes. If I did this for you today, I might lose my own family, even if our relationship has been good, and there would be a wedge between us!"
"But now I truly have no other choice. If I weren’t completely out of options, I definitely wouldn’t co to ask for your help. I’ve never asked anything of you in my life, and this is the first ti. But I didn’t expect that when I do ask for your help, you would have such reasons to refuse . I know your family matters more to you than we, your relatives, do. Ran Zhihan truly didn’t know what to say anymore. On one hand was her father-in-law, and on the other, her husband’s decision. Whichever side she helped, she would offend the other, only pleasing one party. So why shouldn’t she be selfish and make her husband happy? She knew that it was very selfish of her to make such a decision, but she really had no choice and did not want to be caught in the middle, becoming distressed from both sides. She had to abide by her husband’s decisions for the rest of her life, not defy them, while her father-in-law’s decision she could acknowledge or ignore. She would just respect her husband’s decision. Perhaps this is what a wife should do, right?
