Zhang Yichen finally listened to what Zhang Ni had to say, and when he was about to rest, he heard the alarm going off inside and rushed to call out. The doctor entered and discovered that the condition had worsened.
Looking at his parents who were already in the intensive care unit, his heart could no longer remain calm and wait. Yet at that mont, he suddenly realized that his parents had once again embarked on the journey of ergency rescue.
Seeing his parents on ventilators, he knew how serious their condition was this ti; the fact that they were on ventilators ant that their illness was much more severe than before, didn’t it?
As the doctors worked desperately inside, Old Master Zhang at ho awaited the news. But when the ssage he received was that his son’s condition had deteriorated, he felt incredibly hopeless, afraid that this ti he might truly lose his precious son.
Zhang Yichen watched his parents lying there in agony. All the hate he had for his parents vanished at that mont. Perhaps he shouldn’t have hated them from the beginning, for every decision they made wasn’t truly what they wanted. They had simply taken one step at a ti to reach this point, with no way to turn back and choose differently, which led them to keep making mistakes.
Ran Zhihan knew all too well what her husband was thinking. So things are better left unsaid, because speaking them might hurt, seemingly comforting words to the listener might feel like salt being rubbed into their wounds.
Zhang Ni used to particularly despise her grandparents because she resented them for never being there for her since her birth. She had never known what it felt like to be cherished by them.
However, at that mont, if she could see her grandparents living safely outside, she would rather they never returned ho. If coming ho ant facing such an outco, why bother returning to suffer greatly?
Old Master Zhang rushed frantically from his ho to the hospital. When he arrived, he saw the doctors still busy trying to save his son, and he almost collapsed into a chair nearby. Everyone was startled, never having seen Elder Zhang in such a state. His heart must have been filled with unspeakable pain and exhaustion.
"Grandpa, didn’t I say to wait for news at ho? Why have you co now? Do you know that what you need most right now is to rest well? If mom and dad see you like this, how worried would they be?"
"Yichen, tell grandpa, how are your mom and dad doing? Is their situation not as bad as imagined? Have the doctors managed to save them? You must stay here and be vigilant, they are your parents after all. I have no other desires in this lifeti, only hoping they would be safe and sound. Even if they don’t stay with in the future, I don’t mind.
Nothing is more important than their living a safe and happy life. This old man doesn’t care about anything else, as long as they are happy. What’s impossible for then? Even if they abandon again, leave here cold-heartedly, and go sowhere else, as long as they are still alive, that in itself is the greatest comfort to !"
Zhang Yichen understood his grandfather’s feelings all too well.
Wasn’t he harboring the very sa state of mind? He would rather his parents not return here than to lie motionless inside, being resuscitated ti and again, which would inevitably erode the will of anyone. He couldn’t stand it, watching the doctors rush to save them, injecting ergency drugs over and over again.
He was really worried, afraid that sothing unpredictable might happen to his dad and mom. He had no way to bear such pain. Now, all he could possibly do was wait, hoping his parents would co out of the ICU safe and sound.
An hour later...
The doctor ca out, and Old Master Zhang quickly ran up and grabbed the doctor’s hand, asking anxiously, "Doctor, my son is all right, isn’t he? Are they out of danger now?"
Zhang Yichen, Ran Zhihan, and Zhang Ni all stood by, dreading the doctor’s final response. Though it was tough, they had no choice but to stand strong and wait for the doctor’s final verdict.
"The two of them have been resuscitated for now, but they are still not out of the critical period. Their condition has deteriorated slightly and could worsen. I hope your family will be prepared ntally and ready for the worst."
"Doctor, you must save my son and daughter-in-law, they’ve only just returned. I haven’t had the chance to take good care of them yet, how could such a thing happen to them? Please, you must help, help us... I’m begging you..."
"It’s our duty as doctors, and we will certainly do our utmost to help them. We will try our best to save them. But we can’t outpace the changes. If they don’t undergo any further complications from now on, they might get through the critical period. But if sothing like today happens again, I can’t guarantee they will be safe!"
Hearing these words from the doctor, Elder Zhang felt like a ticking ti bomb had been placed beside him. He had never imagined his son would face such an outco. Ti and again, it was all due to the consequences of his own actions, actions which he had never thought would hurt so many people. But now, watching his beloved son lying in the hospital room, he could only stand helplessly in the corridor outside as a father, unable to assist in any way. It was in this mont that he realized just how incapable he was as a father.
"Grandpa, don’t worry too much. I believe dad and mom are people of strong will, and I’m confident they will survive this ordeal. We have to believe in them, don’t we?
We should take care of ourselves so that when they wake up, they won’t feel any guilt over our exhausted appearance, right..."
