Zhang Zhentian heard his father repeatedly asking if this was what Xia Jing had said and if he had made any alterations. Could it be that his dad already knew sothing? But that didn’t make sense—he hadn’t t Xia Jing, so how could he possibly know the truth?
"Yes, these words were said directly by Xia Jing. I didn’t make any changes." Zhang Zhentian, as before, told Old Master Zhang that these words were Xia Jing’s and that he hadn’t made any alterations. It was because of his affirmation now that Xia Jing was unjustly taking the bla.
"Very well, Zhentian. Do you know that earlier this afternoon, Xia Jing arranged to et ? She’s already told the entire story. Yet, you’re saying Xia Jing told you she didn’t kill anyone? I don’t know exactly what she said to you, but your answer just now completely destroyed the tiny bit of goodwill I still had for her." Old Master Zhang told Zhang Zhentian about how Xia Jing had co to et him and revealed the truth. Zhang Zhentian was montarily stunned upon hearing it.
"Dad, Xia Jing t with you? What did she say to you?" Zhang Zhentian looked at Old Master Zhang with anticipation. He desperately hoped that what Old Master Zhang had heard matched what Xia Jing had told him. But the outco left him disappointed.
"You want to know? Fine, I’ll tell you. Xia Jing ca to et this afternoon. She admitted she really did send soone to kill Li Jiayuan, and the person she sent was called Xiao Wei. She also told her reasons for trying to assassinate Li Jiayuan..." Old Master Zhang recounted everything Xia Jing had confessed to him. This left Zhang Zhentian completely dumbfounded. He was still trying to cover for Xia Jing, but his father had already discovered the truth. Didn’t that an his actions were now harming Xia Jing? Zhang Zhentian felt utterly lost.
"Dad, if you knew all this, why didn’t you tell ? Why ask what Xia Jing said?" Zhang Zhentian questioned Old Master Zhang in confusion.
"Why? It’s simple. I wanted to know if what Xia Jing told you matched what she told . I wanted to see whether this woman was honest and consistent, or if she was two-faced. But your answer made it clear to that Xia Jing is, in fact, deceitful." Old Master Zhang explained his reasoning, leaving Zhang Zhentian collapsing to the floor.
"How can this be? Why is it like this?" Zhang Zhentian’s initial good intentions had caused an unintended disaster.
"Originally, I was willing to give Xia Jing a chance. If she sought forgiveness from Li Haixiao and Li Jiayuan, I might have forgiven her too. But now, that’s impossible. From now on, you are not allowed to see that woman again. Hmph!" Old Master Zhang concluded that Xia Jing had lied to Zhang Zhentian and laid down his judgnt.
"Dad, why?" Zhang Zhentian suddenly stood up and shouted at Old Master Zhang.
"Why? Because the things she said to you and were inconsistent. A woman like this, two-faced and dishonest, is not fit to be my son Zhang Mo’s daughter-in-law!" Old Master Zhang roared in anger.
Hearing that his father forbade him from seeing Xia Jing because of the discrepancies in their accounts, Zhang Zhentian panicked. He knew full well that Xia Jing hadn’t said those things to him. He had lied out of selfish motives!
"Dad, that’s not how it is. Xia Jing admitted to that she was responsible for everything. But I told you she said she didn’t do it because I was selfish—I was afraid you wouldn’t let us be together because of this. That’s why I said those things. Dad, this really has nothing to do with Xia Jing." Zhang Zhentian spoke as he knelt before Old Master Zhang.
"What did you say earlier when I asked you? You said Xia Jing told you she didn’t kill anyone. But now, because I revealed the truth, you’ve changed your story and claid Xia Jing admitted the cri to you. So tell , how can I trust which version of what you’ve said is true? If Xia Jing genuinely loves you and sincerely wants my approval, she would seek forgiveness from Li Haixiao and Li Jiayuan. Only then would my attitude toward her change. Otherwise, because of your lies, I will never agree to the two of you being together. If she resorts to unscrupulous ans to gain Li Jiayuan’s forgiveness, and you’re complicit, then get out of the Zhang Family and never step foot here again. I, Zhang Mo, an what I say!" With that, Old Master Zhang stord upstairs, leaving Zhang Zhentian alone on the ground floor.
