After thinking it over, Bai Hanyun gestured for the Kui Clan’s patriarch to stand and said, "Kui Clan’s Patriarch, please stand up."
The Kui Clan’s patriarch straightened his body and then glared at the middle-aged woman. "Why aren’t you apologizing to this young lady yet?!"
Knowing that the patriarch was angry, the middle-aged woman had no choice but to get up and bow toward Bai Hanyun.
"I’m sorry."
Seeing how insincere she was, Bai Hanyun said coldly, "I don’t need your apology. Just compensate for my dress."
When everyone heard this, they knew that if they didn’t compensate for the dress, they wouldn’t be able to leave tonight.
Standing behind the Kui Clan mbers, the village chief finally spoke up, "Old Kui, just compensate the young lady so we can continue our journey. We must reach the village before it’s too late."
Hearing this, the other villagers nodded in agreent.
"That’s right. Just compensate for the young lady’s dress."
"Your family mber soiled her dress, so she must compensate her."
Seeing that the villagers had sided with Bai Hanyun, the middle-aged woman grew angry. However, before she could speak, her eldest sister-in-law glared at her.
"Do you think you haven’t caused enough trouble?" the sister-in-law asked through gritted teeth.
Realizing that the other clan mbers were also glaring at her, the middle-aged woman could only shut up and hug her thin grandson.
After silencing the troublemaker, the Kui Clan’s patriarch looked at Bai Hanyun and politely asked, "Young Lady, how much do you want as compensation?"
Bai Hanyun looked at the Kui Clan’s patriarch through the veil and said, "My dress was made using gold thread, Dong Zhu, and imperial tribute silk."
When her words fell, everyone present gasped in shock.
"Her dress was actually made using imperial tribute silk?! Doesn’t that an she is at least a young lady from a noble clan, if not from the imperial family?" a young man asked, with a hint of realization and fear in his voice.
Bai Hanyun ignored the whispers and discussions around her and looked at the Kui Clan’s patriarch. She thought for a second, then asked, "Kui Clan’s Patriarch, how much do you think you should compensate for soiling my dress?"
The mont her words fell, everyone went silent.
Even though they were all farrs, they were not blind. The golden sheen of the threads, the silky texture of the fabric, and the round, beautiful pearls were proof that Bai Hanyun wasn’t lying.
Clenching the stick he used to support himself, the Kui Clan’s patriarch asked tremblingly, "This old man has little experience with the world. Young Lady, please just na the price."
Bai Hanyun didn’t lack money. However, she disliked the middle-aged woman’s behavior. Moreover, the woman had tried to morally pressure her.
After a brief mont of thought, Bai Hanyun said, "I don’t need money. Since she soiled my dress, I want her hand as compensation."
The mont she said this, everyone present gasped sharply in shock.
"No! You are crazy!" the middle-aged woman shouted in horror, then turned to flee.
Seeing this, the Kui Clan’s patriarch struck the ground with his wooden stick and ordered, "Don’t let her escape! Catch her!"
"Yes, Patriarch!" a few young n responded before rushing toward the middle-aged woman.
Before long, they dragged her back, while one of them carried the unconscious boy in his arms.
"Let go! Let go!" the middle-aged woman struggled desperately, but to no avail.
Returning to the group, the two young n, who were holding her arms, pushed the middle-aged woman to the ground.
Thud!
"Ah!" Falling heavily, she scread in pain.
Standing in front of her, the Kui Clan’s patriarch said calmly, "Granddaughter-in-law, since you caused this ss, then you must pay for it yourself."
Realizing that the Kui Clan’s patriarch was truly going to chop off her hand, the middle-aged woman’s heart leaped to her throat.
Shaking her head, she tried to crawl away, but the two young n dragged her back and pinned her down.
With one of them holding her hand in place, a middle-aged man pulled out a cleaver from one of the wooden carts and walked toward her.
"N–no... Please... don’t do this..." The middle-aged woman pleaded in horror as tears stread down her dirty, sunken cheek.
The middle-aged man squatted in front of her and said gloomily, "Sister-in-law, don’t worry. If sothing happens to you, my third branch will take care of your grandson for my second elder brother’s sake."
After saying that, he raised the cleaver and swung it down toward her hand.
Seeing this, the middle-aged woman scread in horror. "Ah!!"
A second later, her vision went dark, and she fainted.
Just as the cleaver was about to strike, Bai Hanyun suddenly said, "That’s enough."
As soon as her words fell, the middle-aged man’s hand froze mid-air. Turning to look at Bai Hanyun, he gloomily asked, "Young Lady, you don’t want her hand anymore?"
Bai Hanyun waved her hand and said, "What is the use of her dirty hand for ? It’s enough to teach her a lesson."
After saying that, she turned to Kui Lu. "Thank you, Young Lady, for what you did for just now."
Hearing this, Kui Lu quickly shook her head and waved her hands. "No, no, no. I just couldn’t stand what my second paternal uncle’s wife was doing."
Looking at her honest expression, Bai Hanyun smiled slightly. ’This young lady is a good person.’
Scanning Kui Lu’s thin figure, Bai Hanyun reached into her wide sleeve and took out a water pouch and a few stead buns from her black Qiankun Pouch.
Handing them to Kui Lu, she said, "This is for you."
Looking at the water pouch and the paper-wrapped food, Kui Lu was stunned.
Seeing that she didn’t react, Bai Hanyun stuffed the items into her hands. "If you don’t have a place to stay, you can go to Xiqiang City. Let the people there know that it’s Bai Hanyun who recomnded you to go there. They will help you with the rest."
After saying that, Bai Hanyun nodded to Kui Huai, then continued on her way.
