If he channeled his ice through the blade, a single thrust could release a fan-shaped wave of freezing needles capable of locking an entire squad of enemies in solid ice.

If he used his lightning, a simple swing could unleash a cascading arc of violet electricity that would chain between multiple targets, clearing out crowds of monsters in an instant.

It effectively granted him a high-tier area-of-effect spell that required no complex somatic chanting or lengthy array formations to activate.

Apart from this one, he also had the silver daggers Yuan had given him as a gift a few days back.

That one, though, was only a rare-grade set, and couldn’t be compared to this one in any capacity.

The storage space on his palm opened up again, the air directly above his skin fracturing into that familiar, gray tear.

Noah slid the silver blade smoothly back into its dark scabbard, and with a fluid, practiced motion, he guided the weapon toward the rift.

The rapier sunk back into the spatial void, its form dissolving into the darkness of the tear until the hilt completely vanished beneath his skin.

The gray rift snapped shut a millisecond later, leaving his palm completely empty and unblemished once more.

As the magical glow left the room, Noah’s expression turned serious, the lingering warmth of his satisfaction evaporating into a cold, hard focus.

He stood up from the edge of the mattress, the shadow beneath his feet rippling slightly.

Kael gracefully erge from its his scales catching the light in the room.

The dragon expanded his wings, taking flight instantly and flying around him in a series of tight, playful circles that created a cool breeze within the cramped confines of the bedroom.

The creature let out a low, telepathic purr of excitent, his golden eyes locked onto Noah’s face as he enjoyed the sudden return to his physical form.

Kael was about to land on his shoulder, his body tilting mid-air as he prepared to claim his usual perch near his master’s neck.

But he stopped abruptly, his massive wings backing water with a sudden, frantic flap that sent a cloud of dust scattering across the floor.

He hovered awkwardly in the air just inches away from Noah’s ear, his golden eyes widening slightly as he rembered he was no longer the small, pup-sized familiar he had been just a day before.

The realization made the dragon tilt his snout downward with a slightly embarrassed huff, his long tail twitching as he sought a more appropriate place to settle.

Noah smiled warmly at the sight of the hovering dragon, a quiet, nostalgic wave washing over his chest as he watched Kael’s awkward mid-air recalculation.

It was an entirely amusing sight, realizing that those days of Kael casually resting on him were completely over now that he had already tripled in size.

Kael was a formidable beast now, possessing a dense, muscled weight that demanded its own physical boundaries, a living reminder that the quiet margins of their old life were rapidly expanding.

He reached out, his hand finally connecting with the side of Kael’s jaw, his fingers lightly scratching the small, diamond-hard scales just beneath the ridge of his golden horns.

"Well," Noah said, letting hid hands drop back to the side, his face turning serious. "Today’s the day... we’re going to Vale."

He was ant to et up with Yuan first, then, from there, they would both head directly to Vale city and begin the investigations into the strange anomalies and underlying threats that had been creeping toward their borders.

It was a mission that required absolute precision, a path that would force him to deploy the full depth of his arch magus capabilities while maintaining the superficial guise of a common adept-rank caster.

The paraters of the excursion, however, weren’t entirely under his control.

According to Yuan, a third adventurer would be joining them for the duration of the investigation, a reinforcent ant to provide additional security or specialized expertise for whatever horrors lay waiting within Vale’s periter.

Noah’s eyes narrowed slightly as he recalled the details of the briefing; he had no idea who that would be.

Yuan had been uncharacteristically vague about the individual’s identity, leaving Noah to calculate a dozen different variables and potential complications in his mind.

In their line of work, an unknown factor in a high-tier party was always a variable that could tilt a mission toward success or absolute catastrophe, and he would have to keep a sharp eye on this stranger the mont they crossed paths.

A few minutes later...

Noah stood beside the edge of his bed, the cool moisture from his morning routine still lingering slightly against the skin of his neck.

He had finally taken his bath, the freezing water helping to clear the remaining fog of ntal exhaustion from his temples, and he was now completely dressed.

He wore his heavy, dark travel trousers and a reinforced tunic that allowed for maximum flexibility when he was moving or fighting, the fabric dark enough to blend effortlessly into the shadows of the forest if the situation required him to disappear.

He adjusted the line of his cuffs, ensuring his movents were entirely unrestricted.

He glanced at Kael beside him, the massive, dog-sized dragon resting silently on the floorboards, his long prehensile tail coiled neatly around his hind legs.

The golden eyes of the familiar locked onto Noah’s face, tracking the silent, purposeful shift in his master’s deanor.

Noah gave a single, curt nod.

Kael nodded back in response, his golden horns catching the amber light of the window pane.

The air directly beneath their feet began to distort, the natural light fracturing into deep, geotric ripples.

Noah’s shadow on the floorboards wobbled violently, losing its flat definition and pooling into a thick, localized void of pure liquid darkness that seed to swallow the ambient light of the room.

He didn’t hesitate; he stepped directly into the center of the dark pool, and he suddenly sunk in, the cool, weightless void of the shadow paraters wrapping around his boots and pulling him downward with a silent, fluid speed.

Kael followed right after him, his massive wings tucking tightly against his flanks as his heavy, black-scaled form plunged into the liquid darkness a fraction of a second later, leaving the bedroom completely empty and completely silent.

The transition through the shadow realm lasted less than a heartbeat, a cold, breathless interval of absolute sensory deprivation.

A second later, they reappeared behind a bush in the forest, their physical forms solidifying instantly against the damp earth and green foliage.

The sharp, crisp scent of pine, wet moss, and wild dirt rushed to greet them, a stark contrast to the stagnant, dust-heavy air of the lower-district house.

Noah exhaled a long, heavy breath, his chest expanding as he checked his imdiate surroundings, his hand instinctively dropping to ensure his spatial core was stable.

He adjusted his collar, a faint, lingering shadow of guilt crossing his features as he looked back toward the general direction of the town.

He purposely didn’t tell his mother before he left because he wasn’t sure how he was going to face her.

After the profound, beautiful display of pure relief and joy she had shown the previous evening during their small celebration, looking her in the eye and spinning another web of calculated lies about a routine training excursion with Mr. White felt like a physical weight he couldn’t bear.

So he simply left without telling her... deciding to push the matter to the back of his kind again.

Noah took a slow step away from the shelter of the bush, stepping out into a narrow clearing where the canopy opened up to reveal the vast, blue expanse of the sky.

He closed his fist, drawing upon the deep, erratic reservoir of his second elental affinity, the violent currents of his arch magus core surging down his arms with a sudden, deafening intensity.

Lightning suddenly struck down on him from the clear sky, a blinding, localized bolt of violet electricity that shattered the quiet of the woods with a roaring crackle.

The energy enveloped his physical form in a fraction of a millisecond, and he vanished, leaving behind nothing but a faint sll of ozone and a few scorched leaves drifting lazily through the empty air.

Miles away, past the dense borders of the regional forest and far out into the open territory, the landscape transford into a wide, rolling expanse of green.

In a grassy field, where the wind moved the tall blades in long, rhythmic waves, the quiet atmosphere was violently interrupted.

Lightning suddenly struck down from above, a single, magnificent pillar of violet static slamming into the earth with a sound like tearing thunder.

Landing from it was Noah, his boots anchoring themselves firmly into the soil as the remaining currents of the spell dissolved into his skin, his eyes already scanning the horizon for the familiar silhouette of his companion.
