“Eh, did I just hear a woman’s voice? Shengxiao, have you not returned to the hotel yet?” Rong Yan vaguely heard someone asking whether she was his girlfriend or something and subconsciously asked.

It wasn’t on purpose. I just saw you on the phone, and it sounded like you were talking to your girlfriend, so I asked. There’s no misunderstanding from your girlfriend, right? If she misunderstood, I can explain it to her.”
Ha, if Rong Yan had really misunderstood, Chu Xi’s explanation would only make the misunderstanding worse!
Li Shengxiao didn’t even glance at her as he walked past her, heading back to his original spot to put down his phone, before saying, “No need, she didn’t take it to heart.”

She could hardly stand it and almost walked away in humiliation. Even as she pinched the palm of her hand, she barely managed to squeeze out a forced smile, “Really? I was worried that your girlfriend would misunderstand since most girls would doubt their boyfriends in such situations. I’m surprised she didn’t care at all.”
It sounded like she wasn’t speaking ill of Rong Yan, but such remarks could easily make a man doubt whether his girlfriend really cared about him.
Li Shengxiao’s reaction was pletely different from that of the average man, contrary to her expectations. He looked at her once and said, “She won’t misunderstand, because she trusts me.”
“There’s mineral water in the fridge. Help yourself if you want some. It’s about time; Miss Chu, go back to your room and rest. We can talk tomorrow if there’s anything.”
Was he treating her like some beggar needing water?
Chu Xi, who had faced several rejections in a row, had thought she could keep her emotions in check. But upon hearing his words, she almost couldn’t contain the humiliation and embarrassment, “I came to have a celebratory drink with you. I even brought wine. Won’t Mr. Li give me any face at all?”
Li Shengxiao really disliked women who clung on and wouldn’t let go. He believed he had shown enough kindness to Chu Xi tonight, but it seemed like Chu Xi took his politeness for granted, even presuming to test his limits.
He didn’t accept the wine she again offered, stating bluntly, “Sorry, I don’t drink things handed to me by strangers.”
Chu Xi’s face nearly turned green as she stared into the man’s eyes, unwilling to back down, “Mr. Li, calling me a stranger is quite hurtful. I thought at the very least we could be considered friends. We have a business partnership, and I’ve helped you out. In Mr. Li’s eyes, does that not even count for friendship?”
