At that moment, Zhong Yuye walked up from behind and said, “You all have been drinking. Where are you headed? Let me take you.”
Rong Yan turned her head to look at him, feeling a bit embarrassed. “No need. We’ll call a designated driver.”
“It’s not safe to call a driver after drinking. I’ll take you!” His tone became noticeably firmer the second time.
Su Xiansui bit her molars tightly once again, calling out in disbelief, “Senior.”
What was going on with Senior? Why did he keep helping this woman over and over?
Zhong Yuye turned back to look at her. His handsome face appeared even more striking under the sunlight, and he said to her as well, “I’ll take you back too.”
“Are you going back to school or to Lady Lin’s place?”
Su Xiansui gazed at his refined face against the light, her heart racing wildly, her earlobes tinged with an embarrassed shade of red. She bit her lip in shame and stammered after a long pause, “I… I bought a small apartment outside to live in.”
Originally, during every break, she would stay at the Lin Family’s manor. But ever since the last time she accidentally offended that woman, which also upset her cousin and her uncle’s sister, she had been kicked out and had to rent a place outside to live.
Though the apartment she rented was in a good location and had decent decor, it was still miles apart from the grandeur of the Lin Family estate. During those first few days after she moved out, she could hardly sleep at night, only managing to adapt over time.
But now, in front of the boy she liked, she was too embarrassed to admit the apartment was rented, and before she realized it, she had already lied.
Su Xiansui’s heart was thumping loudly. Without anyone asking, she lowered her head awkwardly and added in a soft voice, “I’ve started university too. Always staying with my aunt wasn’t ideal.”
“Okay.” Zhong Yuye acknowledged politely, then said to all three, “Let me go bring the car around. Wait for me here for a moment.”
“Alright, go ahead.”
As soon as he left, Su Xiansui—who had only moments ago been shy and unsure where to place her hands and feet—quickly adopted a cold demeanor. She turned to Rong Yan with an expression that made her nose seem not like a nose, her eyes not like eyes, snorted coldly, shifted her head aside, and assumed a look of ‘don’t bother talking to me.’
It was Rong Yan’s first time encountering such an immature girl. She wasn’t bothered by Su Xiansui’s self-assumed rejection and simply supported Estelle while acting oblivious to it, without attempting to engage in conversation.
Instead, Estelle glanced at Zhong Yuye heading to fetch the car, furrowing her brows slightly. Lowering her voice, she said, “Mr. Rong, maybe we shouldn’t trouble Mr. Zhong. Let’s just call a car. We can leave ours here, and later I’ll contact the car pany to have them send someone to pick it up.”
Rong Yan didn’t like owing favors either. She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed helplessly, “Forget it. He’s already gone to get the car. Calling one now would e across as disrespectful. He’s helped us a lot before. If we make things awkward for him now, it wouldn’t be very decent.”
Estelle calmed herself down, thought it over, and sighed. “…You’re right.”
Zhong Yuye had proactively offered to drive them, and now that he’d gone to retrieve his car, suggesting they call one would indeed seem petty and pretentious—not gracious at all.
Still…
She quickly glanced in Rong Yan’s direction, her face showing clear concern.
Even she could tell that Zhong Yuye treated her boss differently. She wasn’t sure if her boss hadn’t noticed it yet.
Rong Yan seemed entirely oblivious to Zhong Yuye’s feelings toward her. She merely attributed Zhong Yuye acpanying her back to the room as a friendly gesture stemming from a private relationship with Lemon Entertainment’s owner, Ai Wen. She assumed that since Zhong Yuye learned Ai Wen was there, he had simply e over to say hello.
