Chapter 1469: Chapter 1470: It’s Just a Coincidence
Breathing felt like someone was choking him invisibly, Zhong Yuye’s expression grew colder and more impassive, and after a brief silence, he told Estelle and Su Xiansui, “Let’s get in the car.”
Estelle sensed the intense, covert tension between the two parties and silently opened the car door and got in.
Though Su Xiansui didn’t feel it as strongly as Estelle, she still had a strange feeling in her heart. She hesitated, glanced curiously at Rong Yan and Li Shengxiao, then turned to look at Zhong Yuye. Slowly, she also opened the car door and got in first.
‘Bang,’ the Hummer’s door closed.
Zhong Yuye seemed to have adjusted his emotions, and when he looked at Rong Yan again, he had somewhat recovered. He said, “Since your friend is here to pick you up, I’ll take them back first. Rong Yan, let’s meet another day.”
“Okay, thanks.”
The Hummer sped off into the distance.
Li Shengxiao watched the Hummer leave with a sullen gaze, disappearing around the corner. He tightened his grip on her wrist by an inch, pursed his lips tightly.
“How did you run into Zhong Yuye?”
Rong Yan’s wrist was hurting from the grip, “He seemed to be dining at the same club, I ran into him on the way to the restroom. Let go first, you’re squeezing my wrist till it’s swollen.”
Li Shengxiao released her hand, took a look, and found that her fair wrist was perfectly fine, not even a hint of redness, let alone swelling. His handsome face darkened a shade, but Rong Yan had already quickly withdrawn her hand, guarding against another attempt, she deliberately took a step back and said, “I finally know how hard it was for you before. I used to wonder how you ended up with such a severe stomach problem while eating out so well every day. Now I finally understand, the food at those dinners isn’t good. Even if abalone is right in front of you, there’s no chance to taste it with all that liquor going down!”
The dishes this noon were of high quality, with many expensive ingredients, yet after eating for three hours, she wasn’t full, and after a trip to the restroom, her stomach felt empty. Shows how much water she drank!
Li Shengxiao finally caught a faint whiff of alcohol on her, frowned, and asked, “You drank?”
“Yeah,” Rong Yan gestured with her hand, “I only had a tiny bit; Estelle drank the rest for me. She drank quite a lot today, probably about eight taels.”
Eight taels of alcohol is quite a lot.
Generally, most people can only handle about half a catty of liquor. Estelle managed to drink eight taels today, which meant she was really pushing herself.
Of course, Wang Ying wasn’t to be outdone and drank about a jin or so. When they left, Rong Yan saw Wang Ying’s steps were unsteady, only maintaining a clear facade without collapsing, presumably quite drunk and probably wouldn’t make it to work in the afternoon.
Li Shengxiao led her to the car, opened the door for her to sit in first, then bent down to take a bottle of mineral water from the car, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to her, “Drink some water first.”
“Okay.” Rong Yan took the bottle, tilted her head back, and gulped down nearly half the bottle, feeling a lot less hot.
Li Shengxiao took the bottle back after she finished drinking, screwed the cap back on, and placed it where it belonged. He closed the car door for her, walked around to the other side, and got into the car.
Due to the alcohol at noon, even though Estelle took quite a bit for her, Rong Yan still felt a bit dizzy and closed her eyes, leaning against the seat for a nap.
Li Shengxiao saw the fatigue on her face, and after starting the car, he softly said, “Drink less next time, if you really can’t handle it, call me.”
