The Filipino maid looked at her with increasing curiosity, and Jiang Nuan felt more and more awkward.

Jiang Nuan looked at the chubby little corgi held in front of her, her mouth twitched twice, and she took it over, "Nuannuan?"
"Woof!"
As if responding to her, the little corgi made a joyful sound.
The maid happily said, "Nuan Tuan really likes you, so we’ll leave it to you."
Jiang Nuan took the dog back to her house. The little corgi was probably around two months old, and its ears hadn’t stood up yet, the droopy ears looked like a little potato, inexplicably reminding her of the big yellow dog she had found in the past.

The little fellow wasn’t scared at all in the new place, circling Jiang Nuan excitedly and howling happily.
Its big, distinct black and white eyes and signature short legs barely showed its breed.
Seeing its eagerness to go out and play, Jiang Nuan squatted down and jokingly poked its forehead.
"Little guy, who gave you this name, your owner? You don’t really look like a ’Nuan Tuan’ to me; I think Little Potato suits you better. I don’t want to share a name with a dog. From now on, when you’re with me, you’ll be called Little Potato, okay?"
"Woof!"
Dogs don’t understand human language; it just kept circling Jiang Nuan, with an expression that was adorably silly and flattering.
Thinking about how it was bossed around by her new neighbor across the street always running to her with that expression...
"Nuannuan, e over."
"Nuannuan, eat your dog food."
"Nuannuan, sit down and shake hands."
Just imagining it, Jiang Nuan felt like she was being scolded.
Luckily, she didn’t introduce herself by name. If the maid knew her nickname was also Nuannuan, it would be quite awkward.
"Little Potato, you agreed to this yourself, so you can’t plain to your owner later."
"Woof woof."
"Then let’s go for a walk, wait for me while I grab my wallet and buy you a leash."
"Woof woof woof."
"Haha, can you change your tune?"
"Woof."
"Alright, I forgot you’re a dog. If you were to meow at me, now that would be weird."
Jiang Nuan already liked dogs, corgis being one of the breeds she always wanted. The reason she hadn’t kept one was that she was living here alone, was usually busy with work, and worried she wouldn’t be able to take care of it well. Now, with her neighbor having one and letting her play with it for free, she happily accepted the dog-walking task. Daydreaming as she changed into sportswear, she took the little dog for a leisurely stroll...
