Surprisingly, nothing happened on their way back to the base. Rin spent the whole ti resting.
Thankfully, Shelly woke him up as soon as they entered their settlent. Rin half expected her and the others to carry him inside (again) and cause a panic.
"Let’s head to my office first. I want to give you a "full-body checkup" before you put yourself in danger. Knowing you, it won’t take long before you try to get yourself killed—or worse."
Reina complained while yawning. She looked tired even after resting the whole way back. Rin did not fault her for her bad mood. But it did feel unfair that she was taking it out on him..
He obediently followed the others toward Reina’s office and sat down on the bed.
Reina checked him thoroughly. Her eyes went from Rin’s face to her system screen a few tis before she made her judgnt.
"This is a miracle. I cannot find a single thing wrong with Rin except that he’s exhausted. Did you make a deal with the devil to get such incredible luck?"
Reina asked in a flat tone.
"Sothing like that."
Rin matched her tone perfectly which did not go unnoticed by Reina. She pressed the needle a little harder to remind Rin that she did not appreciate his joke.
But Rin was not joking. He had sold his soul to the devil—aka the system in exchange for his life.
"Since nothing is wrong with , can I head back to my room and rest?"
"No way. You will just start working instead of resting if I allow you to head back to your room. If you want to rest, then you can rest here."
Rin had a lot of grievances in his heart. But he swallowed them all and lay down on the bed.
Shelly imdiately walked to his side and grabbed Reina’s chair.
"I will keep an eye on Rin and make sure he does not leave. You all can count on ."
Shelly was covered in blood and left bloody prints. That imdiately made Reina act and she pushed Shelly away from her chair and out of the room.
"None of you will step in here until you have cleaned yourself up. Do you know how long it takes to disinfect this place every day? Now get out and take a bath."
Reina kicked everyone but Rin out of her room. Her anger faded imdiately once everyone was gone and she let out a sigh and collapsed in her chair.
Her clothes were covered in blood as well, but she made no move to get up from her chair or show any panic. She also noticed Rin’s stare and beca defensive quickly.
"What are you looking at for? Do I have sothing on my face?"
Rin blinked before he gathered his thoughts and answered.
"Aren’t you the one leaving blood marks on the chair? Won’t it get stained?"
Reina blinked and looked at herself before making an annoyed face.
"Right, I forgot that I am covered in blood as well. Well, it’ll be fine. I have the blood-stain remover I can use. Worst case scenario? I will put a cloth on top of the blood stain. It won’t be my first ti sitting in such a place."
It was nice to know that Reina was not in a bad mood, but her inattentiveness was a sign that she wasn’t paying attention
"Reina-"
"Don’t say it. I know what you are going to say. I want to crash as well. But you will bolt out of here as soon as I do. So I cannot afford to fall asleep."
This was not fair. Rin was being blackmailed by Reina by putting her health on the line. She knew her talent was precious to him so she was making him choose between heading back to his room and her wellbeing.
"Fine, I get it. I will rest in your office. Are you happy now?"
Reina’s expression did not change. Why was she still not satisfied? Wasn’t this what she wanted?
"Do you expect to take your word for it? You say one thing and then do another. I bet you would try to escape within an hour."
"I will not do that."
Rin promised, knowing fully well that he would head to his room the first chance he got.
’Darn it. Why does she know that well? What should I do to assure her that I won’t run away?’
Reina answered Rin’s question without even asking him.
"I would feel more secure if I tied you to the bed. It will be temporary dical assistance so it won’t be uncomfortable."
Rin imdiately faltered.
"I don’t think you need to go that far-"
"I could drug you to sleep. Would you prefer that?"
Rin imdiately gave in.
"No, you are right. You should tie up."
Rin’s mouth spoke without his mind’s input and he watched with a detached face as Reina tugged a strap around his wrist to make sure he wouldn’t be able to escape.
Thankfully, it was only one arm, but the strap was locked in a way where only the person with the key could open it.
Looking at his bound arm reminded Rin of what happened with Shelly. She had chosen to tie his leg instead.
’Why does everyone keep tying up? Do they find it fun to torture ?’
"Go to sleep. I will be in the next room, so call loudly if you need ."
Reina assured before she slamd the door tightly behind her. Rin looked at the door in front of him with a sigh before he accepted his fate.
"At least the dical strap will not leave behind any marks. I can fall asleep without much problem."
Rin tried to relax and sleep tugged at his eyes. But as if mocking him, sleep didn’t co. Rin was forced to look at the dark ceiling above his head until he felt like he was losing his mind.
Luckily, a soft glow distracted him and Rin looked at the system screen from the corner of his eye. The soft glow was mocking Rin, but he decided to put his annoyance aside and finally take a look at his new ’job’.
"Well, I might as well check out what kind of deal I signed. I might find terms and conditions or a loophole that would allow to get out of this deal."
