"Is being the top of the school year that impressive? Does it an you don’t have to go to school anymore?"
Li Wenxuan was even more incensed by the retort and asked, "What if Liu ngting and Li Xiaoli’s grades drop? You’re leading the good students astray."
"They won’t do this anymore," Tang Ming sighed and said dejectedly,
"Don’t be so serious, Teacher. I ca to you for sothing else."
"What could there possibly be between you and ?"
Hearing this, Li Wenxuan glanced cautiously at the door. Her expression beca unnatural, for aside from their teacher-student relationship, it seed they had also pretended to be a couple, sothing the school must never find out.
"I..."
Seeing Li Wenxuan burn bridges after crossing, Tang Ming felt a sudden surge of depression. If it were not for shielding Li Wenxuan from Jack, he wouldn’t have gotten involved with him and ended up in this miserable situation. And now, the very person involved was denying it—a real kick in the teeth!
"If that’s the case, then there’s nothing more to say."
Tang Ming shook his head and said with a smile, "I ca here to say goodbye to you, Teacher."
"Goodbye? Where are you going?" Li Wenxuan was taken aback at these words.
"I’m taking ti off to go ho," Tang Ming exhaled and said indifferently,
"I didn’t need to tell you all this; after all, we’re rely teacher and student. As for any other issues you might have later, you’ll genuinely need to find soone else to shield you."
Having said that, Tang Ming turned and started to walk away.
"Wait." Li Wenxuan quickly got up and stopped Tang Ming, saying apologetically,
"I was wrong just now. You know that the school prohibits teacher-student romance; we can’t let people know about you being my boyfriend."
"Fake boyfriend," Tang Ming reminded her again speechlessly, feeling depressed,
"It seems I’ve really been a fake boyfriend for quite a few people, almost like a professional shield."
"Fake or not, the school can’t find out," Li Wenxuan led Tang Ming to her desk and asked with concern,
"Your grades are so good, you could definitely get into a top university if you keep it up. Why would you suddenly want to take ti off? Did you run into so trouble? You can tell , and I will definitely find a way to help you."
"You can’t help with this." Tang Ming sighed and said earnestly,
"Thank you for your concern, Teacher. I just wanted to say goodbye and also to tell you that Jack has been seriously injured, and he’s likely lost the use of his ’lower half’. He won’t bother you ever again."
"Jack has been crippled!"
Li Wenxuan blinked, unable to believe what she was hearing. She taught at the school every day and was genuinely unaware of the incident, "It couldn’t have been you, could it?"
"I didn’t do it. He tried to assault a girl and ended up getting beaten into a eunuch."
Tang Ming stated this fact simply and continued smiling, "I’ve said all I needed to, so please take good care of yourself in the future, Teacher. And maybe look out for Liu ngting and Li Xiaoli, too. I should get going now!"
"What exactly happened to you? Why must you leave?"
Li Wenxuan was too anxious to care about Jack’s situation and pressed for an answer.
"Family matters, I can’t tell you," Tang Ming waved his hand without looking back, "Goodbye, Teacher. Oh, and by the way, you look much prettier when you smile than when you’re scolding with a straight face."
"This little bastard!" Watching Tang Ming leave, Li Wenxuan cursed, muttering to herself:
"Could it be Jack seeking revenge on him? But that’s not right. Jack has been crippled, yet he’s unscathed, so why would he need to leave? What on earth has happened?"
While Tang Ming was saying his goodbyes to his friends, Liu Gaoze hurried back ho.
Upon entering, he saw Liu ngting and Li Xiaoli with red-rimd eyes, huddled in a corner of the sofa.
"Dad, you’re finally back!" Liu ngting anxiously looked at Liu Gaoze.
"After I finished dealing with the company’s matters, I rushed right back."
Liu Gaoze took off his coat, eager to ask, "What on earth happened? Tang Ming was fine, wasn’t he? Discharged from the hospital? Why would he suddenly cancel the contract?"
"He got scared, said that protecting was too dangerous and he didn’t want to risk it anymore."
Liu ngting said pitifully, "This coward, being a bodyguard and yet afraid of danger."
"Yes, yes, Brother Tang Ming has turned bad, saying so many heartless words to us."
Li Xiaoli nodded repeatedly, complaining, "Do we really have no emotional connection at all, with only a working relationship left?"
"Hey, hey, it’s and him that only have a working relationship, he didn’t have anything to do with you in the first place, did he?"
Liu ngting gave Li Xiaoli a blank look; Tang Ming was her bodyguard, and the only reason he even knew Li Xiaoli was because of her.
"Hehe, we are sisters, your bodyguard is my bodyguard too." Li Xiaoli laughed it off, feeling a bit odd inside:
"If I have no relationship with Brother Tang Ming, then why can’t I bear to see him leave? And, I just like being with Brother Tang Ming."
"Stop quarreling, both of you, and tell exactly what happened?" Liu Gaoze sat down on the sofa, puzzled:
"According to what we know, Tang Ming isn’t the type to fear death. Why would he suddenly express fear of danger?"
"We are wondering the sa thing too." Liu ngting furrowed her brows, frustratedly saying:
"This kidnapping incident happened because he offended soone, so how could he say that protecting is dangerous?"
"Maybe Brother Tang Ming doesn’t feel it’s dangerous to protect ng ng, but that he’s offended too many powerful people, and now he has to run away," Li Xiaoli seriously analyzed.
"That could be possible. Did any of you try to persuade him to stay?"
Liu Gaoze nodded, recalling how Tang Ming had made enemies everywhere in the past few months, and the ones he provoked were very powerful indeed. Perhaps he really couldn’t stand against them anymore and had to leave.
"Of course, we tried to detain him, but he was determined to leave, and we couldn’t convince him to stay."
Liu ngting shook her head, disheartened, "I was counting on him to deal with my fiancé, and now, to think he’s actually running away, what a coward."
Upon hearing this, Liu Gaoze’s lips moved, wanting to reveal Tang Ming’s identity to Liu ngting, but then thinking that since Tang Ming had already decided to leave, he had to have an honest conversation with Tang Ming before deciding whether to tell Liu ngting the truth.
If he told Liu ngting now that Tang Ming was her fiancé and Tang Ming still left, wouldn’t that just add to her injuries?
"Uncle Liu, do you think Tang Ming is just trying to use this as an opportunity to increase his salary, by feigning retreat to advance, so you’ll give him a raise?"
Li Xiaoli speculated uncertainly, her eyes spinning.
"That’s unlikely." Liu Gaoze gave an awkward smile, thinking bitterly:
"Is Tang Ming short on money? To save Liu ngting and Li Xiaoli, the man brought in a hundred million. If it weren’t for my scheming initially, with Tang Ming’s skills, how could he possibly have agreed to be Liu ngting’s bodyguard? He was here to call off the engagent."
