The evening air was cooler than West expected.

Streetlights had flickered on, casting long orange shadows across the pavent. The faint buzz of traffic drifted from the main road as West walked back from the bus stop.

Nina had left reluctantly after three hot and passionate rounds. West didn’t even know where she got the energy from...

He thought all girls were like Aria who couldn’t handle anymore hard-core pounding after their brains had been fucked out... he thought wrong.

Fortunately, his stamina points were high.

West shoved his hands into his pockets, exhaling slowly.

Sunday nights were usually quiet and peaceful but peace rarely lasted long around him.

He had barely turned into the side street that led toward his apartnt complex when a figure slamd into him hard.

West didn’t move.

The other person bounced off him like they had collided with a wall.

A gasp escaped soft lips.

"I’m sorry—I—"

West looked down and the face he spotted made his eyes narrow in response...

It was Lena.

Her hair was disheveled and her mascara faintly smudged. She was breathing unevenly like she had been running.

She froze when she realized who she had collided with.

"West...?"

Her shock shifted almost instantly into relief.

"Oh my God—West!"

She grabbed his arm.

"Please—please help ."

West’s expression didn’t change.

"...Help you?"

She nodded frantically.

"I’m being followed."

He tilted his head slightly.

"By?"

Her voice lowered.

"Caleb."

West stared at her blankly.

"You’re still rolling around with that loser?"

The words hit, but Lena didn’t argue.

"I know I don’t deserve your help," she rushed out. "I know that."

West folded his arms.

"Then why are you here?"

She swallowed.

"He begged to co over today. Said he wanted to apologize. Said he regretted everything."

"And you believed him?"

"I didn’t think he’d lose his mind," she said, panic creeping back into her voice. "He started accusing of going back to you. He got angry. Really angry."

West’s eyes sharpened slightly.

"And?"

"He wouldn’t let it go. I tried leaving and he followed ."

As if summoned by her fear, a familiar figure erged at the far end of the street.

It was Caleb.

His face was twisted with rage... and when his eyes locked onto the scene before him that depicted Lena pressed up against West in desperation, sothing in him snapped.

"So I was right!" Caleb roared.

He pointed accusingly.

"You bitch! You really went back to him!"

Pedestrians on the sidewalk slowed while so stopped entirely.

Caleb’s voice echoed down the street.

"I’m gonna fuck your brains out today so you rember who the best man is!"

He charged forward blindly without hesitation... forgetting one crucial detail...

This was West.

West calmly stepped in front of Lena, moved her aside gently and threw a single punch.

His fist connected with Caleb’s jaw and a loud impactful sound rang out.

Bam!

Caleb’s body lifted off the ground as he flew backward and crashed straight through the glass panel of a nearby shop.

Bang!

Shards exploded outward as Caleb’s body tumbled inside and landed heavily against a shelf before going completely still.

Silence fell over the street as people stared.

Soone whispered—

"Is that...?"

"...An awakened..."

Phones were already out causing West to click his tongue softly.

He didn’t need this kind of attention.

He turned to leave but Lena followed imdiately.

"Wait—West!"

He didn’t slow down.

"I told you to stay away from ."

"I know—I know!" she pleaded. "Please don’t leave ."

"I took care of your guy," West replied flatly. "Don’t bother anymore."

"He’ll wake up!" she said urgently. "He could co to my place later when you’re not around. He could send people."

West stopped walking for a bit and slowly turned.

"I can’t go ho yet," she continued desperately. "Please... just help for tonight."

He studied her expression... noticing that she looked shaken with genuine fear.

He didn’t owe her anything, not especially after how things ended between them but still...

Since he had already gotten involved, he decided that he might as well just see this through to the end.

He exhaled quietly, thinking of a quick solution.

He couldn’t take her to his apartnt.

If Mark was ho—or returning soon—it would complicate things.

And Gor’thala or Seraphyra might make things even worse.

West glanced down the street and spotted a cheap motel sign a few blocks away.

"...Fine."

Relief flooded Lena’s face.

"Thank you."

"Don’t misunderstand," he added coldly. "This doesn’t an anything."

She nodded quickly as they walked in silence.

---

The motel wasn’t glamorous.

Flickering neon sign... old carpets... dim hallway lighting.

West paid for a single room without hesitation.

The receptionist eyed him briefly but didn’t ask questions.

Monts later, they stepped inside the room.

It was small with only a single bed and a chair as well as a small desk.

Lena stood near the door with her arms wrapped around herself.

West glanced around once, satisfied it was secure.

"I’ll go now."

He turned toward the door but Lena moved quickly.

She grabbed him from behind, wrapping her arms around his torso and pressing her forehead against his back.

"I’m sorry... for everything... I should have never left you..." she whispered.

West’s chuckled humorlessly.

"You’re only saying that now because I’m awakened."

She flinched slightly.

"That’s not—"

He moved to pry her arms off with an utterly unimpressed look.

"Don’t bother anymore."

"Please," she said again as her voice cracked. "Just stay a little longer. I’m scared of being alone."

Her grip tightened as a small sob escaped her lips and she began to cry.

West looked down at her hands around him.

Crocodile tears...

Or maybe not.

Either way, he wasn’t falling for it emotionally.

He turned around slowly.

"Did you break up with Caleb?"

She shook her head weakly.

"No."

"I will," she rushed out. "Next ti I see him. Or—I’ll send him a breakup text right now."

She reached for her phone in her pocket but West’s eyes flicked down.

"No."

She hesitated.

"What?"

"Drop the phone."

She slowly lowered it onto the desk.

West stepped back and sat on the edge of the bed, resting his arms on his thighs.

’This is the perfect opportunity for that...’

Internally, West smiled deviously but on the surface he appeared completely calm.
