Once more, I felt all eyes on again.
"Hmm..." Lord Calder made a low sound that sounded like a hum. He looked in thought as he stared at . "No one is going to deny that is a strange scent for an Oga."
Ila turned away from and my heart started to hamr in my chest.
Why would she even... Oh...
I suddenly felt so silly.
No matter how much I had tried to hide it, anyone, much less these Supre Alphas, would be able to tell that I wasn’t an Oga. At the very least, I was sothing they weren’t familiar with and they had already noticed.
I guess this was also a plausible explanation for Kael to actually bring into Fresna.
Ila then added. "Also. After the descriptor I was given, I told them we had found a dying Oga and buried her on our soil. I was instructed by my Supre Alpha to state this as he suspected foul play."
Murmurs spread through the audience and Damon’s eyes widened.
"Alpha Damon," Lord Calder said heavily. "Your wolf apparently did more than just miscommunicate. They lied about the nature of their quarry. Why would he do this?"
"I cannot speak to his motivations for committing such a grave offense," Damon said quickly, his voice tight.
Lord Calder glanced at Garret before his eyes slowly drifted to Damon. "How would you explain these lies spouted by the head of your patrol no less. Surely, such detailed instructions couldn’t have co off the top of his head."
Garret muttered, his eyes downcast. "I ca up with—"
Damon looked panicked and he glanced at Garret with an irritated frown. "I really did not give him such instructions."
"So he knowingly provided false information to the beta of another Supre Alpha," Lord Calder said in a grave tone.
The tremor from Garret was more visible, and he raised his head, clearly shaken. It was so bad that I almost felt sorry for him.
He stamred, his voice weak. "No—I—"
"Are you aware of the repercussions of this, Alpha Damon?" Lord Calder stared Damon down.
Damons fists clenched at his sides. "I take full responsibility for this. I had just sent them out to bring her back, and I did not anticipate for her to have made it to the neutral zone that quickly. I have had his position stripped from him as punishnt for this offense the mont he relayed it to that sa night."
"That is not enough." Lord Caler glared at Damon and a faint gasp escaped Garret’s mouth. "We will get to what is deserving of his offense. Now, about this blood lust exuded by your wolves. An intent to kill... It sounds more like you sent your wolves out to kill the Oga rather than retrieve her."
"I did send them to retrieve her, and I do not an to downplay what Garret did, but his foolish words were likely influenced by the gravity of the atrocity he had witnessed." Damon pointed a finger at . "While he did exaggerate the detail about her being part of my pack’s security, he told no lies about how dangerous she is. This woman murdered two pups in a fit of rage before fleeing from my pack!"
The silence that followed his accusation was deafening.
My mind went blank.
Two pups?
Murdered.
By ?
I murdered two pups?
The words didn’t make sense. They couldn’t make any sense.
Of all things, I don’t think I could ever have expected this from . I didn’t understand.
Ila went rigid, her eyes widening with disbelief. Gregor’s hand tightened on my shoulder, his shock evident in the sudden tension of his grip.
This was a lie. An outrageous, monstrous lie.
"That’s—" I started, but my voice ca out strangled. "That’s not—"
"There was no ntion of this in the report," Lord Calder said sharply, his eyes snapping to Lady Palisa. "Neither did you even speak of it earlier. Palisa, what is the aning of this?"
Supre Alpha Palisa shrugged, her expression maddeningly casual. "I tried to bring it up during our initial discussions and explain the full circumstances, but you all insisted I keep my mouth shut. I decided to let it go and assud it would co out naturally during the trial."
Her tone was light, almost dismissive, as if this was such a trivial matter.
A frantic hoard of whispers plagued the hall.
"What is this?" Kael’s voice cut through the noise, cold and sharp as he looked at Lady Palisa with barely restrained fury.
Rowan directed a stunned stare at Lady Palisa. "Speak or not as you’d like, why did you omit this detail in the report?"
Palisa t his gaze with infuriating calm. "I withheld nothing. I simply prioritized the legal violation being the unauthorized departure which was the main basis of the incident. Not my fault if—"
Kael started to rise. "This is a blatant—"
"Supre Alpha Kael," Lord Calder yelled sharply, and the boom of his voice silenced the uproar from the seated wolves. "You are not to intervene. Please, sit down!"
Kael’s jaw clenched, but he lowered himself back into his seat, fury radiating from every line of his body.
My throat was tight.
My chest was tight.
I could barely even move.
Damon seized the mont, his voice gaining strength as he started talking again, "I have proof." He gestured toward the audience. "And I brought a witness. The mother of the children."
My stomach dropped to my feet.
Where was all this coming from?
"That never happened!" The words burst out from as I whirled to fully face him, desperation bleeding into my voice. "I never did this! I would never harm a child!"
"Be quiet!" Lord Calder ramd his fist down on the table and I flinched, turning my head to look up at him.
He eyed Damon, his expression dark with a displeasure that did not asure up to mine in any way. "Then present your witness."
