Violet

The estate lood behind as I quickly rushed to hide within the trees. I paused and looked back at the building.

I wasn’t sure if it was because this was the ho of a Supre Alpha, but at least in normal packs, even the Alphas’ lodge was guarded by wolves. The lax security here made escaping easy.

I turned back towards the sparse forest before , rubbing my arm which I had bruised from my fall out of the window.

For the past three days, I had forced myself to eat. Even though I could survive on the elents, my body needed fuel from food, and I couldn’t afford to collapse halfway while escaping.

I had packed a few things. A small bag with a change of clothes, wrapped food that wouldn’t spoil quickly, and my grandmother’s pendant tucked carefully into the inner pocket where it wouldn’t get damaged or lost.

I hitched my bag higher on my shoulder and moved forward, keeping to the shadows as I neared the outskirts of the inner district. I decided to move along the tree lines and not venture through the city itself. I would make way into the more crowded outer district, and find my way out.

My plan was simple. Make it to the neutral zone. Any neutral zone. There had to be one within a few days’ travel. I could disappear. Live quietly for a bit while working on my abilities. I would teach myself. Learn to control my syzygy properly without Tow’s conditional lessons. There was that dream...

My steps faltered and I frowned.

What had I even dreamt about?

My pulse quickened. I could not rember. I could genuinely not rember.

I was sure I had dreamt about...

’You can think about that later. Just keep moving!’

I shook myself and continued on my trail, feeling a strange sense of loss. There was sothing I was supposed to rember.

The mate bond?

My chest tightened at the thought.

I would deal with that later. Much later. When I was far enough away that it didn’t pull at with every breath.

A small, traitorous part of was grateful Kael wasn’t here. Grateful I didn’t have to see his face when he returned to find gone. Grateful I wouldn’t have to hear him try to convince to stay, or worse... not try at all.

I kept to the outskirts of the inner district, moving parallel to the main roads but staying within the cover of the forest. The moonlight filtered through the canopy above, just bright enough to see by but not so bright that I would be easily spotted.

At first, I didn’t encounter anyone.

Later however... I could hear louder sounds in the distance. Laughter, conversations, and the usual evening activities of a thriving pack. So would have noticed , but no one approached. I tried my best to remain hidden and those who noticed never ca close.

I was beginning to think I might actually make it when I heard the approaching footsteps in my path.

Three sets. Maybe they were patrolling the area.

I froze, pressing myself against a thick tree trunk and trying to stifle my heartbeat.

Their voices drew closer.

"... can’t even shift. Wonder why Lord Kael would want to keep sothing like that around."

I held my breath. They were discussing about ?

"Maybe she’s good for sothing else?" Soone else said, and a crude laughter followed that imdiately made sick.

"Not possible—"

"No. Really, You should have seen her out in the city a few days ago. She is beautiful."

"Either way, she’s not... who’s there?"

"It’s the oga."

I heard rapid movent and I darted out of my hiding spot.

"You—" the first one started.

I reacted before he could finish his sentence.

It ca easier than it ever had before. Whether from desperation or anger or simply because I had been practicing in secret, I didn’t know. But the power answered my call like it had been waiting for this mont.

All three of them surrendered under my syzygy, the shock and horror registering across their faces as their bodies froze against their will.

Their bodies were now under my control.

"What—" One of them tried to move his arm, but I fought against it and his arm remained locked at his side.

"Be quiet," I said, my voice steadier than I felt.

His mouth snapped shut.

The other two struggled, their faces twisting with effort as they tried to break their invisible restraints, but I held firm.

My head was already beginning to ache with the strain of controlling three bodies at once, but I couldn’t let them go. Not yet.

"I am leaving, and you are going to leave alone."

"The Supre Alpha—"

I took a step forward, and despite being held immobile, all three flinched. "He has granted permission to go. Madam Tow granted it too. Do not follow or I will do worse to you than what you are experiencing now. Do we have an understanding?"

Silence. Then, reluctantly, the first one managed a jerky nod.

I hurried past them, still keeping them within my grasp. It beca harder to maintain the hold I had on them as the distance between us grew, but I still managed to hold on.

After a lengthy walk, I finally let go, and it felt like I had dropped a heavy weight I had been carrying.

I stumbled, catching myself against a tree, my breath coming in ragged gasps.

Within seconds I pushed myself forward and started running. They might go back to report to Tow or ignore , but I wouldn’t take that chance.

The forest grew denser as I moved away from the inner district. The sounds of the pack faded behind , replaced by the natural symphony of night—crickets, the rustle of small creatures, the whisper of wind through leaves.

I walked for what felt like hours while the moon continued its arc across the sky. I kept drawing energy from it to keep from collapsing.

A shadow moved at the corner of my eye and I turned around, already preparing to defend myself when the mate bond pulled at my chest.

I stiffened.

The large shadow on the ground rose up and ford into sothing more solid.

"What are you doing?!"
