Chapter 160: The Visit to Yueyun Entertainnt (Part 1)
"So many companies…"
Gan Yanyu murmured, her voice tinged with awe. Lin Tian leaned out the car window and saw they were now driving down a wide avenue lined with towering buildings belonging to various entertainnt agencies. Nas like Starlight dia, Huacai Records, Lingdong Stars, and Jiayin Records stood out—so even recognizable to soone like Lin Tian, who paid little attention to the entertainnt industry.
It seed Qingzhou's reputation as a hub for influencers wasn't unfounded; its entertainnt sector was thriving.
"Lin Tian, look over there!"
Gan Yanyu tugged at his sleeve, pointing outside. Following her gaze, Lin Tian spotted a towering skyscraper emblazoned with three bold letters: SYC.
"Oh, that company's here too."
Early on in his journey, Lin Tian had crossed paths with Zhong Wei'an, a kind-hearted music director from SYC who lent him equipnt when he was just starting out as a high schooler making videos. In so ways, Zhong Wei'an had been instruntal in helping Lin Tian get off the ground. Later, after Gan Yanyu splurged her parents' money to upgrade their gear, Lin Tian returned the borrowed equipnt—and treated the man to dinner as a token of gratitude. He'd considered offering paynt but decided against it, wanting to preserve the purity of their interaction.
"Hmm? Do you have ties with this company, Mr. Lin?" He Zhichen asked upon noticing Lin Tian's nostalgic tone.
"Yes, their music director once lent us equipnt."
"Zhong Wei'an, right?"
He Zhichen didn't disappoint, naming the man imdiately.
"You know him?" Lin Tian asked.
"In Qingzhou's music scene, everyone knows Zhong Wei'an. He started as a talent agent before climbing the ranks to beco SYC's music director four years ago. Many of SYC's biggest stars ca through his hands—he's quite the legend."
"I see."
"How did you two et?" He Zhichen pressed.
"At a restaurant where I used to work part-ti. He suggested I consider becoming a professional musician, but back then, I hadn't even started posting on TikTok yet, so I turned him down."
"That was the right call," He Zhichen chuckled.
"Why do you say that?"
Lin Tian was curious how He Zhichen, a competitor, would critique SYC.
"Well, these big companies all play the sa ga. They sign dozens of promising newcors, knowing only one or two will make it big. The rest either get shelved or end up struggling. It's no secret—it's common knowledge in the industry."
"Ah, I see."
Lin Tian was surprised by He Zhichen's candidness. Back then, he'd been an unknown teenager with raw talent but no following. Signing with SYC at that point might not have led to tragedy, but it likely would've made him another statistic—a disposable rookie.
"What about your company?" Lin Tian asked bluntly. If He Zhichen criticized SYC, surely Yueyun Entertainnt couldn't be entirely clean?
"These practices are unavoidable in our line of work. At its core, it's about mutual consent. But I will say this: Yueyun Entertainnt handles things more ethically than most."
His tone grew serious.
"To be honest, I don't enjoy talking about such matters. Capital chases profits, yes—but rather than dwelling on numbers, I prefer focusing on dreams."
As He Zhichen finished speaking, the car jolted slightly as it crossed a speed bump. Ahead lood a grand entrance bearing the words Yueyun Entertainnt Agency. Beyond the gates stood an older-looking building exuding vintage charm.
The car parked, and the trio stepped out. Lin Tian glanced back toward the gate, noticing clusters of young faces milling around nervously, craning their necks in anticipation. Similar groups had gathered outside other agencies along the way—mostly middle and high school students hoping to catch a glimpse of their idols.
"They're here to chase stars," He Zhichen stated matter-of-factly.
For fans, simply seeing their favorite celebrity could sustain their excitent for days. Even if they waited all day without success, the act itself brought emotional fulfillnt. Sotis, Lin Tian envied them. Their joy was simple—they needed only to idolize soone to find happiness. A fleeting glance could brighten their week.
In contrast, ordinary people often required streaks of victories in online gas or months of saving up for a coveted purchase to experience similar satisfaction.
At that mont, the crowd of eager youngsters noticed Lin Tian and Gan Yanyu stepping out of the car. Their unfamiliar faces sparked curiosity and whispers. Though they resembled rising stars, no one recognized them. Hoping not to miss a potential celebrity sighting, several fans whipped out their phones to snap photos from afar.
Instinctively, Lin Tian positioned himself in front of Gan Yanyu, shielding her from view.
"Let's go," He Zhichen said, leading the way.
Inside the lobby, a poised woman with neatly tied-up hair greeted them warmly.
"Hello!"
She paused, eyeing Lin Tian and Gan Yanyu with a mix of confusion and intrigue.
"This is Lin Tian and Gan Yanyu—better known as Moonlight and Cat from TikTok," He Zhichen introduced.
"They're… really Moonlight and Cat?" The woman looked astonished, staring at the pair in disbelief. "So young…"
"Allow to introduce our vice president, Pu Yidan," He Zhichen added.
"Nice to et you, Mrs. Pu."
Gan Yanyu gave a polite nod, eliciting a doting smile from Pu Yidan, whose Sichuan accent softened her tone.
"How adorable!" she exclaid. In Sichuanese culture, calling soone "adorable" was the highest complint—it acknowledged both their charm and good looks.
When He Zhichen inford her that Moonlight and Cat would visit today, Pu Yidan prepared extensively, determined to leave a positive impression. Yet, upon eting them, she realized her preparations fell short.
