My Goblin System : Levelling up with my SSS Class Devouring skill Chapter 506
As the refugees began moving into the settlent under guard supervision, Vex approached Satou again.
"Lord Satou... I need to tell you sothing. About the humans that attacked his settlent."
Satou’s attention sharpened. "What about them?"
"When they attacked Thornwood, before the massacre started, he read a proclamation. Church official statent." Vex’s voice was bitter. "He declared that all monster settlents in the region were ’demonic corruption that threatens human civilization’ and would be ’cleansed by holy order.’"
"aning?"
"aning Thornwood wasn’t isolated incident. Riverside wasn’t just convenience. This was planned genocide. The Church sent four thousand soldiers to exterminate every non-human settlent in this entire region. Your settlent was the primary target, but we were all marked for death."
Satou absorbed that information with cold fury. "Did he say why?"
"Apparently Demon Lord Loki’s territory is too close to Church interests. They want a ’buffer zone’ of human-controlled land. Monster settlents are obstacle to that buffer. So they decided to eliminate us all."
Vex looked directly at Satou, his remaining eye searching the dragoblin’s transford features.
"We heard stories while fleeing. Rumors from human soldiers who survived, from scouts watching from distance, from refugees who passed through the area. They said Demon Lord
Satou and his settlent fought the Church army for five days. That you held against impossible odds. That all the humans were killed by you."
He gestured at the devastation visible around them—the broken walls, the burned buildings, the scars of siege warfare.
"We didn’t know if the stories were true. Didn’t know if your settlent even survived. But we had nowhere else to go, so we ca hoping. And now..." He looked at Satou with sothing approaching awe. "Now we see the stories were true. You survived. You won."
"At terrible cost," Satou said quietly. "Five hundred fifty-nine of my people died."
Vex’s expression showed understanding grief—the look of soone who’d also lost everything. "But you survived. Your settlent stands. That’s more than any of our settlents can say. That’s why we ca. Because you proved it’s possible to resist the Church and survive."
He paused, then continued with grim warning: "But the Church won’t forget this. They might have retreated now, but they’ll return. Probably with more soldiers, better preparation, and standing orders to show no rcy. You’ve beco a symbol now—proof that monsters can defeat the Church. They’ll want to crush that symbol."
"Let them co," Satou said quietly, but with absolute conviction. "This settlent survives. No matter who attacks. No matter what they bring. We survive."
Vex smiled—a broken, scarred smile that still showed hope.
"That’s exactly what we needed to hear, thanks for accepting us demon lord Satou."
Everyone bows their head down to Satou as they walked into the settlent,

[THAT EVENING - SATOU’S QUARTERS]
Satou sat alone in his rebuilt quarters—hastily repaired after battle damage—reviewing the day’s reports.
Two hundred thirty-seven new refugees integrated. Jessica’s dical team had treated forty-three critical injuries, identified ongoing care needs for another sixty-seven. Security screening had cleared everyone—no threats detected, though several refugees carried minor contraband (stolen food, looted weapons from dead humans) that was understandable given circumstances.
Lyra had classified the refugees by skills:
89 with construction experience34 with combat training27 with farming knowledge18 with crafting skills69 children, elderly, or too injured to work imdiately
Eighty-nine construction workers alone would accelerate rebuilding significantly. Thirty-four combat-trained refugees could reinforce defenses—crucial now that Loki’s fifteen hundred soldiers and Seraphina had returned ho, leaving the settlent to defend itself.
A knock on his door interrupted his review.
"Enter."
Lyra stepped in, looking exhausted but satisfied. "The refugees are settled. Temporary housing established in the western sector—it survived the battle mostly intact. Jessica’s team is monitoring the wounded. No incidents so far."
"Good.Thanks Lyra" Said Satou
"Dont ntion it , anything for you Satou" Said Lyra with a smile shown on her face.
Satou set down the reports. "What’s the overall mood?"
"Among existing residents? Mixed. So are glad to help. Others are worried about resources. A few are angry that we’re taking on more people when we’re already stretched thin and no longer have Loki’s army for backup." Lyra sat down across from him. "But overall, people understand. We’re the kind of settlent that accepts refugees. That’s part of our identity."
"And the refugees themselves?"
"Traumatized. Grieving. But also grateful beyond words. You have no idea what it ans to people who’ve been hunted, massacred, and left for dead to find a place that welcos them." Lyra’s golden eyes showed rare emotion. "They’ll be loyal, Satou. They’ll work themselves to death to prove they deserve to be here."
"I don’t want them working themselves to death," Satou said firmly. "I want them healthy, safe, and integrated. They’re not temporary guests. They’re permanent residents now."
"I’ll make sure the integration teams know that."
They sat in comfortable silence for a mont, then Lyra voiced what they were both thinking:
"We’re going to have more refugees coming. Aren’t we?"
Satou nodded slowly. "The Church destroyed seven settlents. There might be other survivors who are still traveling, still searching for safety. Word will spread that we accepted these refugees. Others will co."
"We can’t save everyone," Lyra said quietly.
"No. But we can save everyone who makes it here." Satou looked at the casualty report still on his desk—five hundred fifty-nine nas. "We lost so many people defending this place. The least we can do is make sure their sacrifice ant sothing. Make sure this settlent becos what they died protecting—a place where all races can live safely."
Lyra stood, preparing to leave. "I’ll prepare protocols for additional refugee arrivals. If more co, we’ll be ready."
"Lyra," Satou called as she reached the door. She turned. "Thank you. For commanding the defense. For keeping everyone alive as long as you did. For docunting every loss so they’re rembered. You did everything right."
Her expression softened. "We survived because we all did everything right. You just make sure you’re never five days away again when we need you."
"Never again," Satou promised. "I swear it."
