"Oh, so you awakened an Innatus... now that’s really great news!" Isabelle exclaims.
"Y-Yeah, apparently — that’s the last thing Mia said before she fainted. But honestly, I still don’t understand what it is."
"You really are slow on the uptake, huh? I already told you it’s an extrely rare genetic anomaly that grants unique abilities. Normally a vampire is born with it, but in your case you must have gained it when I transford you. Which is strange, since I’ve never heard of a human gaining an Innatus after being turned into a vampire. You never stop learning, huh?"
"Very cool and all... the problem is that I have absolutely no idea how I used that power. I tried several tis to use it again, but nothing happened..."
"Ah, I can’t help you with that. As I told you, they’re unique abilities. There will never be two identical Innatus, and each one works in its own way. But what matters is that we know you have one. We’ll figure sothing out."
Chris lowers his gaze.
"So... you’re not angry with us anymore?"
Isabelle smiles, then shifts her gaze to Mia. She is lying on her bed, still unconscious and wearing only pink lace underwear. Isabelle undressed her both to make sure all her wounds had healed and... for another reason.
The sight definitely doesn’t leave Chris indifferent. Not even the confusion about his new power and the lingering fear from the near tragedy a few hours earlier are enough to calm his obvious reaction to Mia’s half-naked, inviting body lying just a few steps away.
"Oh no, I’m not angry with you. I’m completely furious. You unlocked an Innatus, which deserves a reward — but at the sa ti you and that thickheaded sister of yours disobeyed . You got yourselves into a ss you survived only by sheer miracle. And that deserves an exemplary punishnt. As soon as Mia wakes up, I’ll punish you both properly."
Chris swallows nervously.
Shit... I hope Mia stays asleep as long as possible then...
"Isabelle, there’s sothing about Mia I wanted to ask. When she used the power of her pendant, she beca... different. Her expression, the way she spoke and acted... it was almost scary — she didn’t even seem like herself anymore."
"Well, when you’re manipulating magic that ancient and powerful, it’s normal to feel the effects. Besides, Mia is still too weak to properly control that power — just look at the state she ends up in every ti she uses it, even if only for a few seconds. All that imnse energy suddenly flowing through her goes a bit... to her head, let’s say. She doesn’t do it intentionally, of course. In short, that personality shift is simply a side effect. Nothing to worry about."
Chris lets out a long sigh of relief, reassured by Isabelle’s words. He had expected sothing more disturbing — like possession by the spirit of Azkarith or sothing like that.
He casts a worried glance at Mia, who is rubbing her eyes.
He’s overjoyed to see she’s waking up, but at the sa ti he breaks into a cold sweat knowing their punishnt is about to co.
She stretches her arms and legs before opening her eyes fully, then imdiately panics when she sees Isabelle sitting at the foot of the bed.
"I-I can explain, Isabelle! It was all my fault — Chris has nothing to do with it, really! I needed to blow off so steam, and I threatened him so he would co with and not tell you anything. He followed to the abandoned field only because he didn’t want to go alone. He doesn’t deserve to be punished!"
Only after finishing her rushed explanation does she realize Chris is there too — and that she’s in her underwear. She instantly blushes and pulls the sheet over herself.
Isabelle shoots her a glare.
"Yes, it’s mainly your fault, but he’s also partly to bla. Instead of giving in to your threats, he should have warned imdiately. But you’re right — that’s exactly why your punishnt will be worse than his."
"P-Punishnt...? Since when do I get punished too?!"
"Since I realized how effective they are. Chris is making huge progress thanks to my punishnts and rewards, so I decided I’ll use the sa thod with you."
"I... am the princess — you can’t do that!"
"And I’m your stepmother, and I absolutely can. Your punishnt will be... being kissed by Chris for an entire minute."
Mia and Chris both jump at the sa ti and turn bright red.
"Y-You can’t seriously ask to do sothing like that, you maniac!" Mia snaps.
"M-Mia is right... maybe that’s not a good idea..." Chris adds, though mostly for appearances rather than because he truly ans it.
Before the primordial vampire attack he had been just a breath away from kissing her, and that missed kiss still weighs on his mind.
"Princess, don’t be childish. That way next ti you’ll think twice before acting on your own and putting yourself and your brother in danger."
Then she slaps Chris on the shoulder so hard that he is pushed forward and falls onto Mia’s bed.
"Go on, enjoy your well-deserved reward for unlocking an Innatus. Your punishnt will co later."
Mia and Chris are now beside each other. She is still lying on the bed, while he sits near her hips.
Mia looks away from him.
"S-So... kissing would be your reward? Don’t tell you asked Isabelle for it, you stupid perverted brother..."
"I-I swear it wasn’t my idea. It was all Isabelle," Chris murmurs quietly. "B-But... I’ll tell her I’ll give up my reward — I don’t want to force you to do sothing you don’t want to do..."
Chris is about to do it, but Mia grabs the hem of his shirt and shyly shakes her head.
"I-Isabelle... can I at least put sothing on...?"
"What kind of punishnt would that be otherwise? In fact, you should thank my generosity for leaving you at least your underwear."
"You’re really a sadistic bitch..."
Then Mia shyly shifts her gaze back to Chris and blushes even more.
"C-Co on... do what you have to do..."
"A-Are you really sure...?"
"Unfortunately I don’t think I have any other choice... that pervert would probably invent even worse punishnts... j-just do it — the sooner this torture starts, the sooner it ends..."
Chris’s heart begins pounding wildly as soon as he sees Mia close her eyes and gently part her lips.
"O-Okay, Mia, as you wish..."
