"Is that so? Then how do you explain that barely anyone in your village lives past forty, especially the won—how many of them make it over forty?" Qin Liuxi sneered. "They all died the sa way. Are you sure that’s the Well God’s blessing?"
The village chief’s eyes turned blood-red as he looked at her. "What do you know? That’s because they didn’t revere the Well God, they didn’t offer the sacrifice with true sincerity."
"And what is the sacrifice?" Si Lengyue asked.
The village chief’s gaze flickered. He stamred and said nothing.
"It’s virgins who just started nstruation, isn’t it?" She looked at the lingering resentnt of a little girl clinging to the village chief.
The village chief said, "To be able to serve the Well God is their blessing... ah."
Si Lengyue’s Witch Power coiled around his neck. That power, invisible to ordinary eyes, turned into fine threads and slowly tightened, strangling him until his eyes bulged, his tongue lolled out, and his face flushed a dark purple.
Her cold, beautiful face was layered with frost as she said icily, "Blessing? How about I give that blessing to you?"
"Ugh... ugh..." The village chief clawed at his neck, but there was only empty air beneath his fingers—he couldn’t grasp anything. Instead, blood seeped from his neck, forming a neat red line.
Qin Liuxi patted her hand.
Si Lengyue withdrew her Witch Power, but the look she fixed on the village chief was still razor sharp.
Freed, the village chief gulped in air, panting heavily. The look he gave the two of them was filled with terror. "The Well God will punish you," he said.
Qin Liuxi said coolly, "You asked what we ca here to do? I ca to slay a God. Tell , if I butcher your so-called Well God, what will happen to the water in that well, and what will beco of you people in Ancient Well Village?"
The village chief’s pupils shrank, his body beginning to tremble. "No, you mustn’t, absolutely not."
Qin Liuxi had already seen the well circled off by a ring of piled stones forming a low fence.
The sky was slanting toward dusk, sunlight no longer reaching this place. The ground here sank lower than its surroundings, making the yin energy all the more oppressive, as if one had stepped into a zone of ice. Especially that well—thick black mist billowed from within, pure Extre Yin and vicious evil spirit.
Si Lengyue was utterly repulsed. "Look at how heavy that bone-deep chill is. You still dare call this so-called Conception Well with sweet Spiritual Energy? One sip would freeze you to the marrow. Even if they conceived, the child born would be naturally frail and marked with resentful energy."
"Doesn’t that suit the mother poison perfectly?" Qin Liuxi snorted.
The two of them stepped forward, then exchanged a look.
Qin Liuxi’s Golden Cicada Poisonous Insect leapt out, its aura surging—having sensed the threat of its own kind.
Si Lengyue was the sa, her fingertip lightly tapping the bulge on the back of her hand.
"Stop! You’re not allowed near the ancient well." The village chief’s eyes were bloodshot, fine threadlike worms writhing inside as he glared at them like a predator.
"Noisy." Qin Liuxi’s eyes were icy. With a sweep of her palm wind, she sent him flying.
The village chief spat out a mouthful of blood. His lips pressed together, and a shrill howl tore from his throat.
Qin Liuxi lightly tapped her toe on the ground and drew Spirit Talismans and Jade from the Qiankun Bag. With a flick of her hand, several Spirit Talismans and pieces of Jade landed in their respective positions. Her body spun and turned as both hands ford a mantra to invoke Magic. She stomped on the ground. "Array Activation."
Spiritual Energy flowed, golden light flashed and vanished. An invisible Array ringed off the area around the ancient well, making it impossible to intrude by force.
Only then did the two walk over to the ancient well. The closer they got, the more the yin energy cut into the bones with cold. Qin Liuxi’s body naturally carried Karmic Fire; any yin energy that brushed against her was automatically incinerated.
As for Si Lengyue, who knew what witchcraft she used—the yin energy simply skirted around her.
Qin Liuxi glanced into the well. "That’s not right. This is a Soul Suppressing Well."
A well is inherently Extre Yin and can connect to the Nine Netherworld. By applying magic, one can confine and suppress souls in the well, barring them from entering or leaving, and denying them reincarnation. The well before them was in the shape of the Eight Diagram. Whether to prevent children from falling in or for so other reason, the stone wall was built up to about half a person’s height, covered in dense, ancient-looking runes.
"These are witchcraft runes, and that’s a human face totem. Just looking at it, you can feel the eerie ill on. How could they possibly regard this as a Divine Object?" Si Lengyue said with a trace of helplessness.
"People all have faith; they just don’t know whether what they worship is a God, a ghost, or a poisonous insect," Qin Liuxi said. "Where’s the Stone Beast?"
Si Lengyue pouted in that direction. "In the well."
Qin Liuxi stepped forward and leaned over to look. Only then did she realize the stonework around the well had its own hidden design—the outer structure was built wider than the well mouth, enclosing a Well Sealing Stone Lion within.
The Stone Beast looked like a tiger, yet its fur was long like a lion’s. Its tail was extrely short, its four limbs crouched as if guarding sothing at the well’s mouth. On the Stone Beast’s body, runes were carved in a Daoist style.
