Chapter 207: Chapter 206: Have Eyes but Fail to Recognize Mount Tai
Tie Banxian observed the old man indulging in a feast in front of him, dressed in a funeral shroud. The sight of the greasy chicken leg, while he gnawed only on a pancake, made his stomach growl with hunger, and he felt even more convinced that it was a stroke of terrible luck that brought him into contact with Qin Liuxi today.
He wasn’t foolish; just by watching the procession, he could tell that the old man’s ti had co, and Qin Liuxi was there to send him on his final journey.
And his own role?
Tie Banxian glanced at Qin Liuxi, who remained calm, occasionally pouring wine for the old man. He wasn’t sure if he had arrived in ti.
Old Man Guan let out a contented belch, finishing the wine in his cup, his face ruddy and exhaling a long breath.
He looked at Qin Liuxi and then at Yu Changkong, saying, “I never imagined that, after spending my life making coffins and being the only one left in my family, I would be sent off on my last journey by esteed figures like yourselves. I, Old Guantou, truly feel my life has been worthwhile.”
He stood up and respectfully bowed to Qin Liuxi.
Qin Liuxi also stood and returned the gesture.
Standing to the side, Tie Banxian felt a twinge of discomfort witnessing this exchange and swallowed hard.
“Don’t worry, Little Hu’er is here.”
She glanced at the little ghost standing next to him, wiping tears, and lowered her eyes slightly.
Upon hearing this, Tie Banxian felt a startle in his heart and subconsciously followed Qin Liuxi’s gaze, only to see emptiness. Yet, he sensed that it was not truly empty.
This Little Evil God…
A cold sweat broke out on Tie Banxian’s forehead.
Old Man Guan, hearing Qin Liuxi’s words, also revealed a smile and said, “Good.”
He began to wander around the house, touching each tool for coffin-making on the table with every step and sighing.
From the outer room to the inner room, everyone saw that it was already tidied up, with only a bed plank and a bamboo pillow left, desolate and empty. It was unclear whether the old man had cleared and burned these himself.
He looked around and ultimately stopped before a long table inside the room, where several spirit tablets and an incense burner were placed, with the incense still burning. He looked towards Qin Liuxi.
Qin Liuxi then said, “After you depart, I will take your spirit tablets to Qingping Temple to be worshipped. On holidays and festivals, your incense offerings will not be short. Rest assured.”
“Rest assured, I am. It’s just that I’m troubling you,” Old Man Guan wiped the corner of his eye, revealing a smile: “It’s ti for to go.”
A gust of yin wind swept in.
Qin Liuxi remained still, her expression composed.
Yu Changkong, however, widened his eyes, watching as a gloomy vortex appeared out of nowhere. Amidst the sound of chains, a ghostly figure in official dress, with a pale face, erged.
“Oh, my lord, we et again. Who is this?” Upon seeing Qin Liuxi, the Ghost ssenger quickly stepped forward, bowing and greeting her with folded hands.
Qin Liuxi nodded her head: “This is a familiar elder who spent his life making coffins for the departed, earning so minor rit. I would like to trouble you to guide him on his journey, and when it’s ti for reincarnation, please allow him to cut in line.”
Ever since the yin wind started, Tie Banxian’s body stiffened, sensing sothing approaching. Looking at Qin Liuxi, his mouth opening and closing without hearing what she was saying, it was clear she was conversing with so being.
Mother, ma! Can he turn over a new leaf? Does it always have to be so harrowing?
Turning his gaze back to Old Man Guan, Tie Banxian saw him already lying flat on the bed plank, hands resting on his abdon, a smile on his lips.
“My lord, as you know, there are many ghosts waiting to be reincarnated. I’m afraid that…”
Qin Liuxi glanced over.
The Ghost ssenger’s complexion turned deathly pale, and he hastily corrected himself: “Being afraid is not an option. As per my lord’s orders, I will strive my utmost to accomplish it.”
“Rest assured, I won’t make it difficult for you. It’s ti to get to work,” Qin Liuxi said.
The Ghost ssenger wiped the non-existent sweat from his forehead, sighed, and took out the Life and Death Book from his bosom. He approached the bedside and chanted: “Old Guan, born in the month of May in the Gengwu Year, died…”
Qin Liuxi and Yu Changkong watched the Ghost ssenger finish chanting, and with a flick of the Soul Hook in his hand, Old Man Guan took his last breath, and his soul was already rising from his Physical Body.
Yu Changkong gasped with slight suffocation: “!”
Little Hu’er saw Old Man Guan’s soul and imdiately pounced; the latter, however, grasped his hand and petted his head, looking at him with a compassionate gaze.
Old Man Guan took Little Hu’er’s hand, and both of them bowed in respect to Qin Liuxi.
Qin Liuxi curled his lips slightly, ford a mantra with his hands, and sent a little rit Golden Light onto Old Man Guan.
Old Man Guan was surprised and deeply touched, bowing once more in gratitude.
Watching this, the Ghost ssenger was full of envy, thinking what virtues and abilities this old man had to receive such treatnt personally from the master, not to ntion being rewarded with rit Golden Light. With these, he could be reincarnated into a good life in the next life.
Tie Banxian watched as Qin Liuxi perford the spell, and felt a shiver in his heart, no wonder this Little Evil God could utter those words; it turns out he was a fellow practitioner, no, a mighty one!
He couldn’t even understand the spells she was forming.
Qin Liuxi then took out so yellow paper and personally folded several gold ingots and placed them in the treasure basin to burn, falling into the hands of the Ghost ssenger and into Old Man Guan and his grandson’s hands.
Money makes the ghost push the millstone.
Having received this favor, the Ghost ssenger’s smile beca even more genuine as he clasped his hands towards Qin Liuxi.
“Go on,” Qin Liuxi waved his hand and, rembering sothing, asked him, “By the way, have you captured that Evil Ghost?”
The Ghost ssenger looked bitter and shook his head, “That guy is too sly. He’s given us a lot of trouble and we don’t know where he’s hiding to cause trouble. If you happen to see him, please kindly inform us, to avoid disrupting the balance of yin and yang.”
An escape of an Evil Ghost was a major incident; if it escaped to the mortal world and caused harm to all living things, the Underworld would also have to bear great responsibility.
Qin Liuxi’s eyebrows knitted together as he said, “Fair enough.”
The Ghost ssenger didn’t say more, bowed to Qin Liuxi, and then disappeared with Old Man Guan and Little Hu’er.
The yin energy gradually dissipated, and Yu Changkong finally let out a long breath. Seeing Qin Liuxi still deep in thought, he gently coughed.
Qin Liuxi ca back to reality, saw that Old Man Guan’s life force was long gone on the bed, and placed a Copper Coin in his mouth to hold, then covered his face with white silk. Only then did he turn to Tie Banxian and said, “It’s done. Take care of his burial and conduct the ritual for him.”
Tie Banxian widened his eyes and pointed at himself: “???”
Wait, why was it his job to do such things?
Qin Liuxi was already in a foul mood upon hearing there was no news of the Evil Ghost, and seeing Tie Banxian looking like he wanted to shirk his duties, his face darkened, “What, you took the Silver and don’t want to do the job?”
Tie Banxian stiffened!
A wise man doesn’t fight when the odds are against him; with a forced smile, Tie Banxian said, “No, it’s just that I, this unworthy one, have offended you without recognizing you as a Master. Please be magnanimous and spare this once.”
“Enough with the nonsense. Since you know how to conduct rituals and you’re an Enlightened one, what’s the big deal with preparing Old Man Guan for burial and conducting the ritual? What, are you, a God Stick, scared of ghosts?” Qin Liuxi glared at him.
It wasn’t so much fear as it was the task being disagreeable.
“You listen to make excuses… no, you listen to talk…”
“I’m not listening. Don’t waste your breath arguing, it’s already getting dark, and I need to go ho to sleep,” Qin Liuxi said with impatience: “Taking money and not doing the job, the Ghost ssenger leading Old Man Guan hasn’t gone far yet. Do you want to call them back to have a word with you?”
Tie Banxian: “!”
Where did this gangster bully co from?
