The Gao Family had never imagined things would turn out this way. They thought that if the other party refused to let them take the person away, they would simply cause a scene, after all, she was their own kin — how could anyone refuse to let them take her back?
But they had not anticipated that the dicine would cost silver. Hadn’t they already provided the silver?
"This, hasn’t this already been paid?" Mrs. Gao asked, pointing to her granddaughter’s face.
Qin Liuxi said, "This ointnt was sold at half price as a kindness. It can’t be considered a gift. Oh, how much silver did you give just now?"
Her latter words were directed at Ms. Gao.
Ms. Gao’s face was burning with sha as she replied, "Twenty-nine wen."
Not even half a coin of silver, let alone the thousand taels per ointnt as claid.
Even so, Mrs. Gao felt extrely pained and, without thinking, scolded, "Have you gone mad? Daring to claim you spent twenty-nine wen..."
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt sothing was amiss and glanced over at Qin Liuxi and the others, who appeared to be smiling but not quite. Her old face flushed with heat.
But she had a thick skin and said with a brazen smile, "I heard you help out of fairness whenever you witness injustice and treated my granddaughter’s wounds. Dear noble one, seeing it through to the end would be good. Just gift us the ointnt; the Bodhisattva will bless you."
Manager Ye couldn’t help but laugh out of anger, "A dicine worth tens of thousands of taels to be given to you just like that, are you so shaless to even dare to suggest it?"
"Why did she bother to treat my granddaughter then? Getting involved in matters that don’t concern her." Mrs. Gao muttered: "We don’t have that kind of silver either. This is half treating and then leaving it, like washing soone’s head and not drying it."
A chill ran through Si Lengyue’s heart as she said, "How could people be so shaless and brazen."
Not knowing gratitude is one thing, but to bla the benefactor for ddling too?
Qin Liuxi stood with her hands behind her back, her face tranquil, as if untouched by the shalessness before her.
"If she stays here, she will be cured. Since you wish to take her away, whether she lives or dies has nothing to do with Changsheng Hall, and nothing to do with ," said Qin Liuxi indifferently.
"But..."
Qin Liuxi turned to Mrs. Gao and said, "Old lady, I see darkness on your Yintang indicating an imminent disaster of blood, take heed lest the cheap benefits you seek turn into calamities. Also, your frowns suggest a sharp and an spirit, a mouth that leaks secrets, and a penchant for petty gains and ticulous accounts - be wary of spending your later years without blessings and living in poverty."
"What, what are you talking about..."
"Do you want to take the dicine simply because the Tu Family promised you so benefit?" Qin Liuxi stepped forward, her aura fierce and her gaze stern: "What, do you think I’m a good-hearted fool, that I would let you take the ointnt to profiteer for real gold and silver?"
The mont her presence flared, Mrs. Gao imdiately lost her nerve and stood there trembling, her face drained of color.
This young master is ruthless!
Such a realization flashed through Mrs. Gao’s mind.
Qin Liuxi looked at them, her voice low yet resounding authoritatively: "Go back and tell the Tu Family, no matter how much silver they offer, they won’t get their hands on this dicine, so they might as well cease their useless scheming."
She turned her head to Ms. Gao and said, "What I said still stands, if your child stays here, I can cure her. Other than that, I cannot."
Ms. Gao nodded vigorously, knelt down, and kowtowed several tis to her, saying, "Young master, I understand, I don’t bla you. We mother and daughter will never forget your great kindness."
Qin Liuxi instructed Manager Ye, "Let them go."
Manager Ye beckoned to a couple of servers and began to shoo the visitors away.
Seeing the resolute stance of the Changsheng Hall folks, Mrs. Gao did not dare to insist on staying and left with a look of unwillingness, mumbling and cursing as she went.
Si Lengyue followed Qin Liuxi back to the inner hall and asked, "Are you really not going to do anything? Just let them take the child away?"
"You’ve said it yourself; I have no grounds to keep the child with Changsheng Hall," Qin Liuxi said. "Don’t worry. Since I promised, I will do it. Even without Yan’er here, I have my ways to change her dicine."
Si Lengyue thought of her ans and capabilities and held back.
Yet Qin Liuxi looked at her askance: "For all your ice queen deanor, I wouldn’t have guessed you’d have such a warm heart."
Si Lengyue was taken aback, then resud her cold expression and said, "After the last male of the Si family died fifty years ago, only daughters were born, so won had to take charge. n were taken in through marriage to continue the line. It’s the sa with , naturally I can’t bear to see a girl suffer."
Qin Liuxi heard a hint of helplessness in her voice but didn’t dwell on the topic, saying, "It’s good that the child was taken by them. Though it’s tough, the deadly aura around her has dispersed a bit."
"I’m just afraid that Third Grandmother Tu will take her anger out on them out of embarrassnt and make them suffer more," Si Lengyue huffed coldly.
Qin Liuxi raised an eyebrow: "Do you want to help them? Do you have a way?"
Si Lengyue played with her fingers and said, "Let’s first see how Third Grandmother Tu reacts."
"Fine, go back to your place. The temple master and your father must be anxious," Qin Liuxi stood up.
Whatever reaction Third Grandmother Tu would have, she was furious enough to smash a set of ’Four Gentlen’ teapot and cups when she received the steward’s report, her face contorting with rage.
"The audacity of that upstart!" she bellowed, slamming the table.
The middle-aged steward said, "Third Grandmother, that Mrs. Gao from the Gao Family is still kneeling outside. She says that if they had silver, they would be given the dicine."
Third Grandmother Tu laughed in anger: "Such an ignorant village woman. That damned brat knows that it was I who sent soone, yet he does not easily hand over the dicine. Is she stupid from eating dirt or what? She doesn’t understand that he just mixed up so paste to take away. ’Mixed up’—it’s just paste. I want Jade Snow Skin; what am I supposed to do with the paste, eat it? And it costs over a thousand taels per application. Does she think my silver is brought by the wind?"
Third Grandmother Tu had seen with her own eyes how Qin Liuxi applied the paste on that wretched girl’s face. Since Qin Liuxi knew the Gao Family was directed by her, he surely knew she was trying to indirectly request Jade Snow Skin.
Qin Liuxi wasn’t stupid. How could he simply hand over the dicine?
"Let her get lost, a village woman is just a villager, without the slightest ability," Third Grandmother Tu was irate.
Instead of successfully obtaining the dicine, the Gao Family had been humiliated by Qin Liuxi.
Truly infuriating!
The more Third Grandmother Tu thought about it, the more she couldn’t swallow her rage, and viciously said, "Teach them a lesson, or I won’t be able to calm down."
"Yes."
The middle-aged steward hurried off to make arrangents.
Shortly after, the Gao Family was smashed up, and Mrs. Gao was slapped twice across the face, breaking two of her teeth. With her face swollen, she cried and scread, cursing Ms. Gao and her daughter as jinxes, urging her son to divorce.
Ms. Gao, holding her daughter, did not dodge the fists raining down, only tightly protecting the child in her arms, her heart sunk in despair.
She couldn’t understand—no matter how much her daughter suffered, she had suffered enough. It was a stroke of great fortune to receive help from soone of high status. But why did this suffering double at the hands of her own family? Why was heaven so blind, only picking on the wretched for tornt?
anwhile, Qin Liuxi and Si Lengyue noticed they were being followed by Third Grandmother Tu’s people, their expressions turning cold.
"Watch as I scare him to death," Si Lengyue drifted over and covered the guard’s eyes.
The guard rubbed his eyes vigorously. Where is the person?
A cold, eerie breeze blew past his ears, and with a yelp, he leapt out of the frightening alley.
