Capítulo 936: Chapter 917: The Secret Can No Longer Be Kept

The Great General wanted to ask Qin Liuxi a question: Could there be a mistake? He only had one daughter, and she was already betrothed to Zhan Bailin. After a hundred years, everything he had would belong to their children. Why would Zhan Bailin do such a thing?

He didn’t dare to ask.

Lord Zuo asked, “Isn’t Zhan Bailin ant to repair the relationship? Old Zheng has only Miss Yao as his sole offspring, and Zhan Bailin isn’t being married into the family. After Old Zheng’s passing, everything in the Zheng family would be theirs. Why would he take such a risk?”

“It shouldn’t co to that.” Qin Liuxi sighed, “But Miss Zheng’s Life Chart is a great temptation. What they’re after is much larger, far beyond what a single Zheng family can satisfy.”

Both fell into dismay.

“Then why let him go? Bring him back, and I’ll personally interrogate him,” the Great General’s eagle eyes burned with imnse hatred and anger.

“No rush. Judging by the beads on his wrist and the fact that he couldn’t summon Miss Zheng’s soul, there must be an expert in Evil Cultivation supporting him. Otherwise, how could a re scholar arrange such a grand sche?” Qin Liuxi said. “After what just happened, if he harbors guilt, he will certainly seek out his helper. I’ve already dispatched soone to follow him.”

They were baffled—when did she do that when they had been together the whole ti?

Qin Liuxi touched her nose: An animated paper doll is a person too.

“And what about Yaoyao? Didn’t you say you’d help find Yaoyao?” The Great General was still worried about his daughter. Even if it was just her corpse, he needed to bring her ho.

“No rush, just wait. If he’s guilty, he will lead us to her. It’s like fishing, understand?” Qin Liuxi smirked.

In fact, she had already ford a theory and was now waiting to see if Zhan Bailin could remain calm. Once he lost his cool, it would be like a fish taking the bait.

They waited until the moon reached its zenith.

But tonight, there was no moon.

Qin Liuxi glanced at the darkened sky, her eyes half-closed. A moonless, windy night—perfect for stirring up trouble.

She looked over at the weary Great General and handed him an elixir: “Take it. Don’t collapse now; there’s no one to stand up for your daughter.”

The Great General swallowed it with tears streaming down his face.

Lord Zuo watched with a heavy heart, wanting to offer comfort, but realizing anything he said would ring hollow.

He lifted a car curtain, peering outside, his gaze sharpening, saying, “This leads towards the Four-direction Well.”

Qin Liuxi replied, “More accurately, it’s leading to his house.”

While Lord Zuo remained unperturbed, the Great General’s head spun as if struck by a heavy blow.

Qin Liuxi ceased speaking and beckoned a little ghost to deliver a ssage to Feng Xiu.

It’s not that she feared she couldn’t handle this; it’s just that the house next to the Luan family was discovered to be unusual by him first. Since that’s the case, let’s join forces to tackle the monster!

Receiving the ssage, Feng Xiu chuckled coldly. This little ancestor wants him to work for free.

But can he refuse? No, he can’t; feeling bored, he also wanted to uncover the house’s secrets.

anwhile, Zhan Bailin had already made his way from the study room via a secret passage to the house next door.

The house adjacent to the Luan family supposedly belonged to a wealthy rchant from Jiangnan, who demolished and rebuilt several rooms in the style of Jiangnan’s water scenery, rich with gardens and pavilions.

The rchant purchased the property not for himself, but for his son who was reading for the imperial examination, hoping that when he ca to the capital as a scholar, he’d have a place to stay—proximity to the top scorer’s residence might bring so luck.

Zhan Bailin traversed the passage, triggered a chanism, and exited through a hidden door into another study room. This study, more ornate and elegant than Luan’s own, featured only the finest furnishings, and the Four Treasures of the Study on the desk were all luxurious.

Yet, Zhan Bailin couldn’t afford to admire the decor, quickly leaving the study to arrive at a lakeside courtyard, where the scent of agarwood cald his nerves.

“Has the ancestor gone to bed?” Zhan Bailin inquired respectfully.

In the bamboo house within the courtyard, a young-faced Daoist in a vestnt robe was ditating. Hearing the voice outside, he furrowed his brow, eyes flashing red.

“Co in.”

Zhan Bailin entered and greeted, “Qingfeng Ancestor…”

The Daoist referred to as Qingfeng snapped, “You idiot, what did you bring with you?”

Zhan Bailin was stunned.

Qingfeng Daoist cast a spell upon him, leaping up from his cushion.

Zhan Bailin felt a rush of pain in his chest, a slight sweetness at his throat. Sensing sothing unusual, he looked down to find a torn paper doll made from yellow paper slipping from his robe, spontaneously combusting in a naless fla.

Zhan Bailin’s face was overco with horror.

He had visited the Zheng family earlier, and Qin Liuxi’s probing left him disoriented, completely oblivious to anything amiss with his person. And now?

“Ancestor…”

“Useless!” Qingfeng Daoist glared at him, dashed outside, and shouted into the darkness, “Who dares skulk around here?”

Qin Liuxi pushed Feng Xiu forward.

Feng Xiu: “…”

Not just working for free, but also as an enforcer!

“It’s your grandpa!” Feng Xiu erged from the darkness, ready to fight.

Zhan Bailin reached the door in ti to see his seemingly invincible ancestor being knocked backward by the red-robed opponent, landing with a crash at his feet and spitting blood. The ancestor’s previously raven-black hair rapidly turned gray, and his youthful face aged inch by inch, quickly turning into a decrepit old man over a century old.

Qingfeng Daoist clutched his chest, glaring at Feng Xiu: “What demon are you?”

“Don’t you understand human speech? I said I’m your grandpa.”

Qingfeng Daoist spat another mouthful of blood and, chanting a mantra, transford into a green light, intending to flee.

Seated on the wall, Qin Liuxi kicked down, a Binding Talisman ensnaring him before he crashed to the ground, barely breathing.

“I love a good collaboration!” Feng Xiu winked at her.

“Cut it out.” Qin Liuxi rolled her eyes at him. “Bring the two old n in.”

Feng Xiu pouted and obediently whisked away, returning in monts with one elder in each hand.

The Great General and Lord Zuo had beco involuntary passengers in their aerial flight; once landed, they retched sour bile.

Scared nearly to death.

The Great General stood upright, seeing Zhan Bailin pale and in shock, his face drastically changed.

Goodness, it truly confird things!

Zhan Bailin was rigid, initially hoping to summon reinforcents, yet he saw his ever-capable ancestor fall to the feminine red-clad figure in under a hundred moves.

Upon realizing the secrets he’d guarded for years were lost when he saw Qin Liuxi and the Great General, his expression beca dire.

Qin Liuxi approached, taking his hand, “Let see, what’s hidden in your beads?”

Before she could remove his beads, a timid child’s voice called, “Daddy.”

Turning to face the child, Qin Liuxi squeezed Zhan Bailin’s hand tightly—so that’s it!
