As society develops and progresses, Su Qing discovers that this world never lacks cunning people.
Unexpectedly, the police station also has its own "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Clearly, Lin Chengcai and Zhao Minghui tead up to hoodwink him.
One praised his abilities as a talent, while the other said he was especially suited to join their police team. Although they didn't explicitly invite him, they did ntion the special consultant role while exchanging pleasantries.
The police have openings for special consultants, involving roles in legal affairs, psychological counseling for officers and detainees, cyber security, criminal investigation, and more.
Being a special consultant doesn't really an having a formal, permanent position; it just ans being moved where needed, mainly depending on the person's abilities.
For example, soone skilled in fighting, like a trained free-fighter, could be hired by the police as a hand-to-hand combat instructor.
Sotis they also bring in people from other departnts as special investigators, but that's only if soone is particularly impressive.
Especially the latter, special investigators aren't usually hired unless there's a major, difficult case and the local police are short-handed. Even then, these roles are temporary, often ending once the case is solved, and the individual returns to their original departnt.
As for detectives in novels and films, they don't really get involved in police actions here. Mostly, they receive personal commissions, like spying on a cheating partner, and use so underhanded thods to reveal the truth, then hand over the evidence to their client for a fee.
Moreover, the two of them casually ntioned the details of a few cases. It was sort of a test, but mostly just laying the groundwork.
These two, with a combined age of over eighty and as professionals, quickly had him a bit uncertain.
Finally, due to his fever today, they exchanged contact information and ntioned visiting the station in the coming days. Maybe they'd even have sothing for him to help with.
Their chat ended in a rather relaxed, yet slightly eerie atmosphere.
At the entrance of the neighborhood, watching them leave, Su Qing suddenly spat, "Damn, what did I just agree to?"
Hearing this, Li Zijun patted his shoulder and shook her head, saying, "Let it go. Getting my master and Captain Zhao to co together, you're already doing well."
"To be honest, my master is specialized in criminal psychology, especially adept at driving others' emotions and gauging speech. Many suspects have confessed under him. You just unwittingly fell into their trap, but that's normal since you haven't had professional training."
Earlier, she had seen it clearly. Her master and old Zhao had clearly used a psychological manipulation technique they employed in interrogations. Of course, her master was the main force. Although they didn't explicitly invite him, they dangled the bait, leaving Su Qing with no choice but to consider it, especially since they were just thanking him, not exactly inviting him.
But the best part was suggesting he visit the station. As long as he didn't explicitly refuse, it left an opportunity. If he really went, she knew her master had more moves planned.
"Zijun, do you think Lin Uncle and Captain Zhao were serious about that special consultant thing? Why do I feel they were just conning ?"
Hearing this, Li Zijun shrugged, "There is such a thing, but it's up to the higher-ups. Captain Zhao and my master can apply, but it mostly depends on whether you have the ability. You're not actually considering it, are you?"
This left Su Qing montarily stunned. Right, why was he even asking? He didn't want it, but the offer was tempting.
If he really had that status, wouldn't he have instant respect wherever he went?
"Not really, I'm just curious. Who knew there was a way without exams?" Su Qing shook his head with a bitter smile.
If exams were needed, he wouldn't even think about it. With his current level, he probably wouldn't even qualify as a police dog, but without exams... that's incredibly tempting!
"Stop being curious about that. I advise you, if you really want it, then focus and take the exams. It's not too late to start studying now. Besides, even if you were hired as a special consultant, it's not a long-term thing; it's not permanent. And do you think getting hired is easy? Without real ability, no amount of applications from my master and Captain Zhao would work. So stop overthinking," seeing how he looked, Li Zijun knew what he was pondering.
Besides, she didn't expect her master and Captain Zhao would co up with the special consultant idea; it's clearly ridiculous.
"Exams? No way, if it's exams, I'd rather die!" Su Qing stiffened his neck and made a soul-stirring declaration.
Exams were out of the question. With his ti, he could easily make millions instead, so why bother with civil service exams?
Another week passed, and he made another round of short trades in the stock market. With Aunt Shen's support, his savings exceeded 1.6 million. Excluding Shen Yi's share, and factoring in her thirty percent commission for him, his own savings were nearly 400,000.
Calculating the ti, Gotham City's top figure and Old Su would probably return next week. By then, with almost 500,000 in his hands, could he not shout 'Why should only nobles and ministers succeed?'
Who says only Old Su's na should be on the first page of the family register? A son who doesn't aspire to be head of the household isn't a good stock trader.
"Alright, stop joking around. How are you? Still feeling unwell?" As she spoke, Li Zijun touched his forehead and found it still a bit warm.
"I'm okay, feeling much better already!"
"Co on, follow , I'll take you to get a jab, it'll be better in no ti!"
"A jab? I don't want it!"
"Stop talking nonsense, hurry up, and buy dinner tonight when you're better, I'm starving!"
Despite his strong resistance, he was finally dragged to a nearby clinic by the policewoman.
On the other side, Lin Chengcai and Zhao Minghui were driving and reviewing the conversation they just had.
"Old Lin, do you think that kid is interested?" Zhao Minghui asked with a smile.
"He's definitely interested, but it looks like his economic conditions aren't bad. You can tell from the house he lives in, and I heard from Xiao Li that he's in the short video industry now. Do you know what short videos are? They're quite popular these days. He's doing pretty well, probably making a good inco. After finding out what a special contract worker is, he might not even care about us!" Lin Chengcai shook his head.
During their conversation, Su Qing's expressions couldn't escape the observation of this seasoned criminal psychologist, and based on his own observations, he quickly drew a conclusion.
Though Zhao Minghui wasn't young, he wasn't an old fogey, either. After all, in this line of work, keeping up with the tis is vital. He's encountered almost every profession, from online strears and counter clerks to even celebrities. What's so hard about understanding short videos?
But hearing that, he was still taken aback: "Does that an we worked for nothing today?"
"I heard from Xiao Li that her little brother doesn't even have a proper job. Last ti I visited his ho, it was just an average household, how co..."
Lin Chengcai replied unhurriedly: "Old Zhao, you've been in the hospital for so long, your information is outdated. You can't judge people with the old standards. Don't you know that things can beco hot overnight online?
The young man is seizing opportunities, nothing wrong with that. But it wasn't all for nothing, he's already a bit interested, which is good. As for the salary, we might be way beneath what he makes, but we can make up for it in other aspects."
Hearing this, Zhao Minghui beca curious: "Other aspects? Like what?"
"Our civil servant benefits are good!"
"Benefits are good? I don't think so. Nowadays, young people want quick money; they're not willing to settle for a monthly salary of a few thousand, no matter how good the benefits are." As he spoke, Old Zhao skillfully lit a cigarette.
Quick as a flash, Lin Chengcai snatched the cigarette and stuffed it into his own mouth: "Your wounds aren't healed yet, smoke less!"
Old Zhao sighed helplessly, having been injured, he couldn't smoke or drink, it was really frustrating.
Then Lin Chengcai continued: "Youngsters might not care, but what about their elders at ho?"
Hearing this, Zhao Minghui's eyes lit up: "You an... his parents?"
Lin Chengcai nodded with a smile: "When he cos to our bureau, give him so projects to test his capabilities, then we apply and take a trip to his ho. There's a high chance it'll work out."
Zhao Minghui nodded repeatedly, he had to admit, his old pal really handled things flawlessly. Persuading the elders at ho is much easier than swaying a youngster. Besides, they aren't so shady company, they're a proper police bureau, civil servants, which elders really value. Civil servants are even appealing for finding a partner.
At 5:30 in the afternoon, Su Qing returned to the gate of the neighborhood.
"Achoo~ Achoo!"
He sneezed twice in a row and couldn't help rubbing his nose; he must've caught a cold, but thankfully the fever was completely gone. There was dical tape on the back of his hand; after all, he had an IV drip, but there was no way he was getting a jab. He couldn't help but sigh at this.
Li Zijun had dropped him off at the clinic for the drip and then left, saying he owed her a al another day. This woman, if he could beat her, would he be putting up with this?
"Ouch!"
Just then, a painful moan ca from nearby. Turning his head, he saw an elderly woman with partly gray hair rubbing her back, a vegetable basket on the ground beside her, clearly strained herself.
It's quite common for old folks. Just as he was contemplating whether to assist, a voice-over appeared:
[First impressions between people are crucial. It's better to help in adversity than to embellish the brights, and unintended kindness might bring unforeseen surprises. Young man, before you stands the ultimate opportunity, old lady, old lady enjoys dical care, old lady's house is filled with treasures.]
Su Qing: (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻
Give a break with your dical care!
