Corbin stood at the corner, looking out the glass wall while Linda took his place on the stool, and the questioning began.
"Did you see who shot you?" Linda’s question set the stern mood.
Damain did not answer quickly. He paused for a mont and wore a thoughtful expression. Seconds later he let out a sigh and shook his head.
"He had a hoody and a face mask on and the parking lot was dark. I couldn’t get a clear look at his face." He sighed.
Linda nodded while scribbling sothing on her note. Corbin gave Damain a thoughtful look for several seconds before speaking.
"Do you have an idea who it may be?"
Damain rubbed his chin and thought deeply, but slowly shook his head.
"You won a case for Twenty Shots just a month ago, putting Breezy in jail. Don’t you think the cartel could have ordered a hit on you for retaliation?" Linda chipped in, and Damain jolted back in shock.
It seed these people had already co up with a narrative of their own. He threw his hands up, shaking his head while chuckling.
"Hold on, hold on... Let ask you guys this..."
"Have you ever heard of a gang hit that just ended with one bullet in the chest?"
Buzz!
Corbin and Linda frowned, but they knew Damain was right.
"I’m sorry but from what I know, those black gangers are pretty wild. They empty clips on people... They don’t just shoot you once and let you go."
Corbin and Linda exchanged shocked glances but slowly nodded to his words. His reasoning was on point. If it was really a cartel hit, he would be boxed in by several n and riddled with bullets. It would not be that simple.
"You really can’t think of soone who may want you dead? Are you really that lovable?" Corbin was growing impatient.
Linda shot him a sharp glare before wearing an apologetic smile when she returned her attention to Damain.
"What my partner is trying to say is, are you sure there is no one who wants you dead?"
This ti Damain sat in silence, pondering for nearly a minute. Corbin and Linda patiently watched him, and their hearts skipped a beat when his eyes lit up with realization.
Linda leaned in instantly while Corbin stepped in his direction as they both asked in unison.
"Did you rember sothing?"
Damian nodded, alternating his attention between them as he spoke.
"I recently took on a new case to defend a councilman..."
Imdiately Linda and Corbin’s faces lit up with excitent, and they began grilling him regarding the case and the role he was ant to play. After thirty full minutes of discussion, they were finally satisfied with the information they gathered.
Damain remained seated on his bed as they walked toward the door, only for Corbin to stop at the doorpost and turn around.
"Glasre Health Institute is currently the best in the country and I hear its bills are not cheap. I’m just curious how soone of your... status... can afford a room here."
"Corbin!" Linda slapped his hand, but his gaze never left Damain.
"Ooh, my wife is filthy rich. I live in a mansion." Damain flashed his ring.
Buzz!
Damain’s words turned Corbin’s face red with embarrassnt. The way Damain responded like it was information everyone should know made his words difficult to doubt. Plus he was an extrely good looking man. It was not impossible for him to land a wealthy wife.
"I see..." Corbin was dazed once again.
His instincts had been wrong again. He turned around absentmindedly and walked out of the room while Linda apologized repeatedly as she trailed after him.
As soon as they left the room, Hazel, Racheal and Ruby appeared with a burst of flas, their eyes twisted into threatening glares. Hazel stood at the foot of the bed while Ruby and Racheal flanked his sides.
"They are the ones that healed you. They were suspicious of you then and they are still suspicious of you now. They have to go." Racheal said, drawing his attention briefly.
Damian casually shook his head while a thoughtful expression crossed his face.
"I just killed a Duke. I’m sure your people will send more at . For that I need the Order of Solomon to keep your kind at bay. If not Chicago will be overrun by demons."
His wives looked at him in surprise. Instinctively they wanted to refuse, but then they stopped. Damain did have a point. If demons had been moving freely in Chicago, Duke Haborym’s search probably would have reached their ho already.
Currently they could consider themselves rogues. They had no allies except themselves. However there was sothing about the way Damain referred to demons as their kind, which prompted the initial urge to defend their race.
Staring at the look in his eyes and the venom in his voice, he reminded them of the sin of pride, Sol.
Their husband was changing right before their eyes.
"..."
Ruby wanted to say sothing but held herself back. Every ti they spoke, it only made the situation worse. If things were going to change, they needed to do sothing different.
"Okay... We will let you handle it your way." Hazel broke the heavy silence.
A flicker of surprise crossed Damain’s eyes because he was almost certain they would argue with him.
"Thank you." He muttered.
With that he lowered himself back and lay down. It was already late, and without his demonic force he felt fatigued and tired. It felt like sothing was missing.
’How long before I get back to normal?’ He asked the system.

’Jumpstart? What the hell? Is it an engine or sothing?’ he chuckled inwardly.
Damain could feel people climbing onto the bed. He felt them cuddle up to his sides, but he did not send them away. Slowly Hazel lay on him while Ruby and Racheal hugged him from the sides, pressing their warmth against his.
With a small smile on his face, Damain drifted into a deep sleep.
