Not everyone is willing to be diligent, willing to sacrifice some of their interests to serve the patients.

Some medical students, due to the influence of family upbringing, have been pampered and treated like emperors since childhood. They haven’t really suffered any hardships, and in school, they are like princes and princesses locked in an ivory tower.

They simply have no understanding of the hardships of the world.

They don’t know where the salt is salty, where the vinegar is sour.

Asking them to put themselves in the patient’s shoes really is too difficult for them.

Just like the historical anecdote of Emperor Hui of Jin, who, upon learning from his ministers that many mon people were starving, casually asked, "Why don’t they eat meat porridge?"

This casual question made Emperor Hui of Jin a frequently cited negative example by later generations.

Luo Shishen is still just an intern at the hospital and can at most be considered as having one foot in society. He can’t understand the patients’ pain and struggles, can’t imagine the suffering, fear, and helplessness patients feel while waiting for treatment.

Otherwise, he too would surely bee a good doctor like Zhou Can.

Willing to eat a little later just to relieve the patient’s pain a little earlier.

Soon, a new surgical patient was brought in, and Zhou Can continued his efforts to perform surgery on the patient without mentioning it.

A little past twelve, Dr. Xu came in.

He stood by watching Zhou Can perform the surgery without speaking. After he came in, even though he was just standing beside him, Luo Shishen noticeably became much more reserved.

After Zhou Can finished handling the high-risk part of the surgery, Dr. Xu finally said, "Xiao Zhou, once you finish this surgery, go have lunch first. I’ll take over the duty here at noon."

Luo Shikun was secretly delighted at this.

Once this surgery is done, he can go have lunch and rest.

"Have you had lunch yet? We young folks don’t mind eating a little later, why don’t you go have lunch first? Once you’re finished, you can e back and relieve us."

Zhou Can stopped his actions, looked up at Dr. Xu, and said.

"I’m not hungry, you guys go ahead and eat!"

Dr. Xu, no longer a young man, had been busy with surgery all morning, and now to skip lunch is simply not feasible.

Zhou Can didn’t say anything more and instead accelerated his surgery.

Ten minutes later, he successfully pleted the surgery.

"Your wound has been stitched up, and considering it’s your face, I’ve done a scarless incision for you. Remember not to let the wound get wet. During the healing process, itching and mild pain may occur, and you mustn’t scratch it with your hands. Otherwise, it might irritate the wound’s epidermal layer and result in unsightly scarring. For medicine, you just need to apply erythromycin at home..."

Zhou Can finished explaining to the patient and looked at Luo Shishen.

"Dr. Luo, take the patient out, please!"

The patient thanked Zhou Can and was then led out of the operating room by Luo Shishen.

Zhou Can looked at Qiao Yu, "Can we eat later?"

"I’m perfectly fine with that."

Qiao Yu empathetically shrugged her fragrant shoulders.

After obtaining her consent, Zhou Can walked toward the outer operating room, where Dr. Xu was still there, after all.

"Teacher, I understand why you don’t have an appetite. I have lost one mentor already and don’t want to see another fall. You really should eat something. I calculated the time; if you can return within an hour, I can just finish the few urgent surgeries outside."

As he said this, Zhou Can looked sincerely at Dr. Xu.

It was also the first time he used such a ’grown-up’ tone to talk to his mentor, Dr. Xu.

"Alright!"

Dr. Xu hesitated for a few seconds, then agreed.

"When performing surgery, don’t just chase speed; safety is above all, always remember."

"Understood! You go ahead and have lunch! Director Hu’s memorial service should be the day after tomorrow; his son told me this morning that everything would be kept simple. It was also Director Hu’s wish before he passed."

Zhou Can revealed this information to Dr. Xu with a certain intent.

Because of Director Hu’s sudden passing, Dr. Xu was so saddened that he didn’t even want to eat. Naturally, he would want to attend Director Hu’s memorial service to bid him farewell.

Informing him of the time in advance is to allow Dr. Xu to prepare accordingly.

"Sigh..."

Dr. Xu sighed and walked away.

Though his face showed no expression, Zhou Can could feel that Dr. Xu’s heart was undoubtedly very heavy.

It was unexpected; the two had peted for most of their lives and were like sworn enemies before.

Yet after making peace, they cherished each other greatly.

Human feelings are always so plex.

"Luo Shishen, bring in another surgical patient!"

Zhou Can shouted outside.

"Al...right!"

His response was like someone who hadn’t eaten for days, almost fainting with hunger, weak and feeble.

Only because Zhou Can was his superior doctor, holding authority over him, did he not dare to say more.

He didn’t realize that these behaviors surely would deduct points in Zhou Can and Dr. Xu’s eyes.

Interns are evaluated too, and if his work attitude isn’t right, the department’s feedback would certainly be quite objective.

With the new surgical patient received, Zhou Can proceeded as normal, entirely unaffected by Luo Shishen’s negative mood.

After treating a patient, he immediately called for the next patient.

"Dr. Zhou... they say without food, one tends to feel faint. It’s already twelve thirty-six now. Don’t you think we should eat lunch and take a short break before returning to surgery?"
