Chapter 1078: Chapter 425: The Human Heart Is More Frightening Than Disease—It Can Be Treated, but Death Is Not Our Responsibility

“Dr. Zhou, you managed to cure the previous patient with severe gangrene. Can you see if there’s still hope for this patient?”

Dr. Luo, who was on duty, hurriedly called out to Zhou Can when he arrived at work, asking for help with the patient.

Nowadays, Zhou Can’s status in the Ergency Departnt is increasingly rising, and his competence is recognized by the doctors and nurses in the departnt.

Regarding seniority, Dr. Luo far surpasses him.

Back when he first joined the ergency training program, Dr. Luo was already capable of sitting alone on ergency duty. Although being on call in the ergency departnt has much lower requirents for doctors, the departnt still selects outstanding doctors for duty.

In so stronger specialized departnts, the outpatient doctors are mostly starting from vice director level.

At the chief level, only those particularly exceptional might have the opportunity to qualify for outpatient duty.

With over three years passed, Dr. Luo has successfully been promoted from a senior resident doctor to a chief physician. It is said that he is currently working hard on writing papers in preparation for the upcoming deputy senior title evaluation.

In a major hospital like Tu Ya, the most valued aspects nowadays seem to be either strong surgical skills or good paper writing abilities.

The more SCI papers one publishes, the more solid their status becos within the departnt, the hospital, and even in the entire dical community.

And then those with many SCI publications envy those whose papers have high scores.

The higher the score, the greater the influence, making one more authoritative in a specific field.

Zhou Can has co-authored several papers with Dr. Shi from the Intensive Care dicine Departnt, successfully publishing three SCI papers, although the impact factor is sowhat low and the scores leave sothing to be desired, it’s nonetheless a reputation.

He is already quite familiar with the entire process of selecting topics, experinting, writing, and publishing SCI papers.

Currently, he has prepared a quite decent topic, with materials from various aspects nearly collected. The experintal data is being prepared now. He estimates that by next year at the latest, he should be able to draft a paper on his own.

Whether it can be accepted by SCI is still unknown.

Anyway, he has abundant ti and doesn’t need to rush for the mont.

What he needs to do now is accumulate as much experience as possible, master more paper skills, and find ways to improve paper quality.

Just having a lot of SCI papers but each with a low score is not aningful.

Comparatively speaking, quality is more important than quantity.

After receiving Dr. Luo’s call, Zhou Can moved forward to carefully examine the patient’s condition.

The major burned areas are on the front and lateral sides of the left thigh.

The right thigh also has burns, but the condition is fairly ideal, with no severe rotting.

“Were you scalded by high-temperature liquid?”

After examining, Zhou Can asked the patient.

“While eating hotpot, the waiter spilled it, and it all poured onto my leg.”

The hotpot contains salad oil and various seasonings, posing higher risks than ordinary boiling water burns.

“Didn’t get it treated at the hospital in ti? How did it rot to this extent?”

While speaking with the patient, Zhou Can quietly observed his condition. Currently, the patient is conscious, appearing slightly weak when speaking, but overall in relatively good condition.

“I received treatnt at the hospital, but the situation wasn’t ideal. Also, I’m severely allergic to anesthetics. They were preparing for a thorough debrident surgery under general anesthesia, but during the skin test, I was found to be severely allergic to anesthetics. Even a small amount induces convulsions, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing.”

The patient honestly disclosed these shortcomings, at least showing so honesty.

Beside him stood a teary-eyed young girl, in her early twenties, face full of grief, her eyes swollen from crying. Her dressing was very plain, obviously street market wear, and her hands had rough skin with so small cracks.

This is a girl with a hard life.

She likely does a lot of nial labor daily.

She appeared particularly haggard, evidently crying frequently from the state of her eye sockets.

Opposite her stood four or five family mbers, each glaring angrily at the girl, seemingly deeply resentful.

“Doctor, I beg you to save him, even if I have to sell myself, I’ll gather enough dical expenses for you.” The young girl seed to notice Zhou Can’s relatively high status.

And after hearing Dr. Luo say that Zhou Can is quite adept at treating such difficult diseases.

She imdiately sought help from Zhou Can.

“Are you the waiter who spilled the hotpot?”

Zhou Can had guessed her identity.

“Yes!”

She bit her lip and nodded vigorously. Tears, however, started to flow again.

A seemingly insignificant incident can ruin a person’s lifeti, it’s not an exaggeration. For instance, she as a waiter might have just accidentally spilled the hotpot, but afterward has to pay an extrely heavy price.

“If my husband’s leg can’t be treated, selling yourself won’t be enough.”

“As long as the person isn’t saved, demand her life as compensation!”

The family mbers are quite fierce.

If it were any other doctor facing four or five aggressive family mbers, they would surely prioritize their own safety.

Moreover, the attitude of the family also determines whether the doctor is willing to treat the patient.

These family mbers seem like difficult people to deal with, prone to complaints, entanglents, and even lawsuits. What if the treatnt fails or the patient’s leg can’t be saved, and then they bla the doctor?

Therefore, when encountering such family mbers, one can only lant the patient’s misfortune. Doctors generally politely express, “My skills are limited, you’d better go to a better hospital for treatnt, don’t let the condition get delayed.”
